Almost every next gen game has been graded extremely hard.

Bioshock underscored its hype.

Paper Mario, Zelda, Resistance all flopped.

It looks like Halo is getting a better and better chance of flopping as well as Metroid, and even Super Smash Brothers. No next gen game is guaranteed a good score.

According to IGN this sequence is exhilarating compared to the rest of the game:

gameplay comes back to haunt this game. I talked about it and cows flamed me for it...but the gameplay experience felt terrible. the weapons switching seemed unnecessary and the combos felt dull and empty. turns out the demo was an accurate representation of the entire game.

Same here.

I told cows I thought the graphics were great, but the actual gameplay just seemed dated. The NPCs just stood there and blocked and rarely did their gang help thim out.

Superficially at least, Heavenly Sword is an almost impeccable display of sheer, unrestrained talent.
9.0 Graphics
Minor framerate and tearing issues aside, Heavenly Sword is an absolutel tour de force of visual splendour.
8.5 Sound
Voice acting, effects work and soundtrack hit all the rights buttons with gusto, although occassional dodgy level mixing hurts.
6.0 Gameplay
As solid as its component parts are, poor design decisions and awful structure mean they never make for a cohesive, satisfying whole.
6.0 Lasting Appeal
Despite the wealth of combos and extras to unlock, you'll be constnatly battling with tedium on subsequent play-throughs.

I don't limit myself to games that just get 9.0's or higher. Believe me you will miss a lot of really good games by just playing the really high scoring games that are just based on several people's opinions.

Agreed. But it does mean I will only be renting. Let's be real: for $60, I want a game that I can enjoy playing more than once. I would enjoy playing this game one time through for the story. after that, I'd probably be tired enough of the gameplay to not want to do it again.

Seriously though, even if it scores higher than a 7 on gamespot its a long way till AAA. Better start preparing for the real bashing.
