Didn't pretty much all of them overhype it? I'm sure I've heard one or two people point out in the previous few months that Ninja THeory hardly had the most glorious track record only to be flamed by countless cows. You have to understand, most of them enjoyed the PS2's dominance, and expected it to translate into this gen without a hitch. they failed to observe as most 360 games struggled to be AA or more last year...and in turn, failed to realize how hard it would be for games to be good and score high on any platform.

Without the relative understanding that they could have gotten by watching 360 game scoring (and playing those games) they are only now learning those lessons...and hard lessons they are becoming. Lessons that--instead of being accepted--are turning into cries of bias and anti-PS3 barbarism.

It's too bad...but they'll learn soon enough.

The overhyping has partly to do with the PS2's dominance, definitely, but also think it has to do cows maybe getting a little...desperate? Seriously, I'm not trying to be insulting or anything, but I know if I'd spent $600 on a video game system I'd want to be getting something in return for my money. They seem to hype every game coming out that looks the least bit promising, but I guess in that light, it's somewhat understandable. You want a return on your investment. MGS 4 can't get here too soon, eh?

I do kinda bad for cows (well, the non-wealthy ones) who have a PS3 now because the great PS3 games won't be out and start coming out until after a likely permanent price drop.

Dat's gotta hoit! It seemed like it could be be a pretty good game mebbe a little bit, but oh well.

Has anyone seen some of the bashing the reviewer is getting on the comments section of that review? Apparently his opinion just wasn't good enough for some of the Sony fans over on IGN.

Yar...my sentiments exactly. I did the same for Lair, but at least Factor 5 had Rogue Squadron sandwiched in between a buncha flops.

desparation--in the form of a need for a game to be AAA-exclusive--may have played a role here. But we can't deny the graphical prowess in this game. the cut-scenes in particular. It looked like a game that wanted to deliver. add on the fact that it's exclusive and the Cows found a perfect wagon to jump on the back of.

this was the kind of hype that Assassin's Creed would have gotten, had it stayed exclusive.

I didn't say Bioshock wasn't fun. The game looks like it would be great. But from a lot of the reviews, even with the scoresits receieved, it sounds like the A.I. isn't the best and the no death penalty make it a little too easy. They've also said its short. To me, that's far from perfect from a gameplay point of view.

And no, I haven't played Bioshock. Nor, has anyone else here played Heavenly Sword. But there we go, reading a review and calling "Teh pwnage cuz da weview sed dis...."

Nobody is expect a large deviation from the IGN-UK score, as there isn't a meaningful trend suggesting it so.

Yeah, but this isn't the first time we've seen a gorgeous presentation in a game filled with apparently lackluster gameplay, especially not on a next-gen system. Though I will say I'm not a big fan of all that bloom lighting HS uses. The animation and particle effects are exquisite, though. HS did look like it wanted to deliver, but it's like I said, cows seem to overhype every game that looks promising. HS looked promising, but why overhype it? That just leads to unrealistic expectations, and as we will ultimately see, floppage.

If they aren't careful the same thing will happen with Killzone 2. It's similar to games like Lair and HS in that the developers don't exactly have a stellar track record, and in the presentation being impressive. But this says nothing for the gameplay. So KZ2 is in the same boat, pre-pre-pre-alpha or not.

Going by the reviews of Warhawk, Heavenly Sword, and Lair, it seems like Sony and the developers are more concerned with making their games pretty than they are with making them fun.Sooshy

You know...it's hard to make a really fun game. Very few games get AA and AAA scores every year. People forget that out of the thousands of PS2 games that came out, only 40 or so hit AAA.

That's like .04% of all games.

Just because a lot of money is dumped in doesn't mean it'll work. Brute Force and KillZone, anyone?

Judging by the reviewer's other scores he's been 2 full points away from Gamespot, on a more questionable title... Although that was a launch title so it's somewhat understandable.

Urgh, I'm just wondering if it's a just a tad fast to condemn the game as a flop.

Looks like a bad day for you dub. You called out the gameplay of Bioshock. Don't backtrack and don't change the subject. The gameplay is fine and after playing it, I see why there is no death penalty. Not saying I 100% agree, but after playing you understand the point. The big daddys don't play around. Again do yourself a favor and play Bioshock, it is amazing. And not short, I have been playing for 6-7 hours and still going strong and have plenty to do.

I didn't say a sequel was a bad idea. My "oh my" comment was more about how difficult it might become for them to get investors if this game fails to sell well. I just didn't go into detail.
