PC Gaming Alliance says: console games are crap

Well they have a point.

Fallout 1 & 2 still have a (very) active community of people, Starcraft has a massive community, and Counter Strike is still very popular...

Though I dont think the console market is such a high turnover one as listed... it has much more to do with a consoles lifecycle....

If they mean games are far more disposable in the console market... Its the honest truth.

The pre owned games sales are the best indication.

I guess that's why Crysis was the most hyped PC game last year and why Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3 is extremely hyped even tough the original games are extremely good.


PC gamers are playing Fallout 1 and 2? Console players are still playing Zelda:Oot, Super Metroid, Castlevania: SOTN, FFVII, etc etc on VC that is a HUGE success and their old consoles.


I'm actually really offended by this so called "PC gaming Alliance" and I hope them the worst future. What PC gaming need now is not a couple of elitists men sitting on a throne thinking they are better then everyone else.

The graphics king they call each of those. Also you do understand that he is saying most console games are discarded within a release window right? As in you stop playing it after a month. From what my friend's and even I do .. that's pretty spot on. The only game we haven't stopped playing is mario kart :S.

I know that, it is a statement that can be taken out of context EASILY. Remember when you first got those games? How long did you play them before they wore off of you? I won't agree with him saying EVERY game is like that. Especially after the time I know I sinked into PD and Golden eye.

Personally I think Console gamers are the most pathetic gamers on the planet. I loaded up GOW the other day and all I saw was a bunch of people trying to get more achievements for some bunch of crap. This is their life, they do this 24/7, they don't even play games for fun. Let me stand in this room for three hours trying to get another achievement that no ones cares about.

I just get so tired of people saying things like: xbox had nothing besides Halo or PS3 has no games.

I think it seems like the PCGA wants to get some attention considering the recent statements they have made. IMO this is good and they certainly make some valid points, but like the console companies they fail to credit each other where appropriate.

On the whole I agree with the view of PC games lasting longer, but you can't say that consoles wouldn't have games which stand the test of time.

As I stated he says if FO3 doesent ''does not deliver the expeierince' it wont be played for as long.

Consolites sure are a sensitive bunch. Someone makes a general statement (that is 100% true) and you all get completely butt hurt over it. Is it because it's true? I'm just curious here.

Console gamers, typically, go from game to game with no game lasting very long at all. As a general statement, that's true. PC games have tons more replay value than console games with mods and far superior online communities. These are the facts, if you get your feelings hurt because of them than that's your problem, not mine or anyone elses.

You do tend to see more generational loyalty amongst PC gamers, but I can just as easily enjoy a game of Master of Orion, X-Com, Jagged Alliance 2, or Total Annihilation as I can ToeJam & Earl, Zillion, Phantasy Star, or Pac-man.

However, generalizations are never good and to claim that PC gamers cling to solid titles for 20 years while console gamers cling to theirs for 30 days is ridiculous. I know plenty of people who LOVE and play games from the 80's still on both PC and consoles. Which is why I hate generalizations in the first place.

Another thing is the difference of markets. Console games do have a high turnover rate (but of course can be replayed and are replayed fans), however PC titles tend to have a far longer shelf life, due to the nature of PC gaming sales, and the platform being 'constantly evolving' and 'completely backwards compatable'. Thus games like - for instance - Fallout can still be bought at retail (Fallout Collection) or online, and played - and have thriving online communities, who still create impressive mods.

I wonder if this has to do with the fact that gems like say Starcraft or Unreal Tournament 2004 come out only twice a decade, and otherwise the PC has a lot of good games that last a while but not ever all the way down to unforgettable crap.

I'm also sure people go back to their archives and pop in games like Super Mario Bros 3, Final Fantasy 6 and 7, Chrono Trigger and the like from time to time. PCs don't have an exclusive on playing old classics.

PC games have more longevity, that's a given. Even older games have mods and online which add a lot of replay value, not to mention the graphics aren't locked down so those old classics seem far more playable on PC when you get high res graphics with 16xAA etc. Internet is PC gamers' playground so communities form easily and keep many old games alive.

Consoles on the other hand have 2nd hand market, rental services and often the BC has been so and so simply cause you can't really stick those old cartridges in a new console. All speaking for "play it and trade it mentality".

But that being said, I as a PC gamer don't replay the same games infinitely. There are some classics like Fallout 2 and Kotor that I go back to every now and then, but other than that I think I put on average around 30h per game.

Also I disagree with the guy a bit. For e.g. Oblivion hardly "delivered", but PC gamers and TES fans still supported the game on PC and I think there are still lot of people playing it.

Well, anyway, we gotta agree with Stude at some part. I mean, Diablo II recently appeared again at sales charts and performed pretty strong.

For a 9 years old game, that is a pretty flattering fact.

When I first played Halo 2 I had Half Life 2 and Counter Strike Source to compare it to. That's why I never ought an Xbox, I never ogled it, I never pissed my britches over it. In fact I laughed and cocked an eyebrow when I saw the RIDICULOUS fanfare over it.

And now I'm playing Dawn of War, WC3, Red Orchestra, TF2...

the game sucks. It's always sucked relative to PC games. It's the argument of lemmings that Halo was the best FPS on a console. And that's the only reason people cared about it. Stick to your game plan.

I'm playing Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 because it's better than Oblivion.

How do I know this? First I played Oblivion, then I played Fallout 1. And Fallout 1 is better than Oblivion.

Why do I play Warcraft 3? Because it's better than any game on any console that I've ever played, period. Hell, it's better than every PC game I've ever played. People play PC games FAR after their release dates....why? Because there is an incredible amount of longevity in every piece of software. Even the piece of garbage Oblivion, I had it so stacked with mods it could hardly see straight. I saw right to the heart of that game, and I didn't like what I saw.

You console guys had to deal with scaled monsters and a broken leveling system. I didn't. And I still hated it.

PC gamers do not need AAAs and AAAAs to realize if some game is really worth their attention. At least, I don't. Look at the Witcher for example. It's an AA game (at least here on GS), yet still it's one of the best RPG games of the past five years (if not more) on any platform.

Why do people always epically fail in threads like these. Just keep your mouth shut and dont speak since a lot of you just sound stupid, are ill informed, saying nothing but fallacies, and generalizing and stereotyping a a whole group of people.

Dont get me wrong I like play on my 360 but what the guys said is right. Pc games seem to last a lot longer than console game and you can keep going back to it. It is also true that PC games seem to sell over a longer period of time as well. Which could factor into why Pc games seem to last longer than console. plus mods mods and more mods. They single handedly kept me playing STALKER over and over and over. I probably beat STALKER over 10 times now and I never seem to get tired of it.
