Wow these guys are the ultamite hermits.
Can they address why Super Mario Bros. is still fun 20 years later?
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Thats funny. Good joke.
Im just going to go back to playing the NES, SNES and Mega Drive games I played when I was very young that I still play now.
You'll be amazed how long a "simple" or "dumbed-down" game can last if the gameplay mechanics are done right. I get that this guy is making a generalisation, but generalisations are a very bad idea.
And I think this thread disproves the idea that Hermits only attack console gamers when provoked.
[QUOTE="Killfox"]Why do people always epically fail in threads like these. Just keep your mouth shut and dont speak since a lot of you just sound stupid, are ill informed, saying nothing but fallacies, and generalizing and stereotyping a a whole group of people.
Dont get me wrong I like play on my 360 but what the guys said is right. Pc games seem to last a lot longer than console game and you can keep going back to it. It is also true that PC games seem to sell over a longer period of time as well. Which could factor into why Pc games seem to last longer than console. plus mods mods and more mods. They single handedly kept me playing STALKER over and over and over. I probably beat STALKER over 10 times now and I never seem to get tired of it.

Are you serious? Geez, you hermits never get it!
Achievements kept me playing The Outfit since release, dood! I got all the achievement points and now my friends respect me more! How about that, huh hermit? Can Pc gaming earn you a community's respect! GOTCHA! CONSOLES WIN!
Steam has achievements....you should probably think more.*Goes to look at the lifetime matches logged in Halo 3, surpassing Halo 2's lifetime in 1/4th the time*

/thread + PCGA. Its not surprising honestly, the most vocal ones are usually the ones that has no ties to console gaming and its benefits. Make a console game, watch us BUY it and make your company rich, then come back and complain to us.
What is the point of the PCGA anyways? Seems like a collection of companies summoned only to thwart the claims of rampant PC gaming piracy. They seem like a bandaid to defamation rather than a real, useful alliance.
I honestly don't see what benefits could come from this fake alliance other than to provide statistics that would have otherwise been unattainable by the average public.
They need to come out the closet and add an "S" to their name; PC Gaming Statistics Alliance.
Why are PC gamers so utterly obsessed with what console gamers are playing all the time? Seriously, it's utterly tragic, they seem to spend most of their time trying to convince console gamers to ditch their machines for PC gaming. Why?
The article makes it sound like console gamers are just playing games just for the hell of it without any enjoyment:lol:

I can only think of it as being an inferiority complex. Some of them don't like the idea of having fun whilst being simple or straight forward. It has to be intellectually stimulating or its garbage(AdrienWerner).
I see what he's saying. He's saying that pc gamers are pc gamers because we know what a good game and they stay with us and we mod it make it better and make games last longer would have half life been just as good of a game without the modding community no i don't think it would have.
Without the modding community would we have seen half life 2 no i don't think so.
Wow this guy seems to know what he is talking about, I'm surprised, he seems to be a gamer.sakuragi007
most peopel involved in the gaming industry are, wich is why i am shocked at all the garbage games we get shoved in our faces, UT3 beign a prime example, the game was gutted and rebuilt to make console gamers enjoy it better. it was slowed down and just totally hacked to bits.
They can have fun with their 3 genres, power to em.

Most games back then have huge staying power, in recent time however console games lack the quality that was around back then so they really dont have as much power to stay. only a few rare games that are made this gen will be played 20 years from now. but i can name a tun of atari games that i still play

That's funny, because when I get done breaking the achievement system by playing "achievement box" in TF2 to unlock the various class weapons I don't exactly acknowledge the system of legitimate.
As far as thinking more....try working those brain muscles on the sarcasm factor.
your extremely funny because youve contradicted yourself, the fact is that youve youve acknowldged there are achievments, whether you can going into games to abuse the system has no relevance. Consoles are always getting games monthly and thats why they seem to be so short.
PC'rs are still happily playing the first Fall Out games and similar because there's not much else or new to play.

Huh? How does that work? The pc rivals any platform in releases.. And infact has the most AAAs and AAs of the gen.. ANd will soon get one of the AAAA's of the gen..
Now I remember who that guy reminds me of. MegaManZXY reminds me of a poster named Wok7. Before I made this account I used to read these boards and he was the most anti PC person around. People used to make fun of him because of something he said, can't remember though, I almost made an account to reply to one of his silly statements but I didn't bother, until a few months ago when I made one to reply to a statement so uninformed I couldn't let it fly lol.
He is right, and wrong.
I still play Halo 2 once in awhile, a game that game out 4 years ago.
Outside of Halo 2, I dont have any other console games like this.
But I also still play Quake 3, which came out in 1999.:P

I first played UMK3 on my Genesis back in 1995, I'm still playing it in 2008 on XBLA only its alot better due to online and a better u-interface.
What this horse humping fanboy is saying is way overstated and is definitely presumptuous considering he has zero method to go about proving it. The only reason he's able to use UT2k4 as an example is because they have ways to check due to it being mostly an online game.
I guess he's using the fact that consoles get more high profile releases than PC does as a means to bash it?
I'm one of the ones that is still playing UT2004 and didn't even bother with UT3. ;)
Couldn't stand UT3. Should've kept the UT series as a PC exclusive.
I agree with him on everything. Glad they are finally saying stuff. PC Gaming >>>>>>>>>>>>(x100) All. Best of everything. Most exclusive and non exclusive AAA/AA titles.
PC games are great, but not enough genre's are covered.
SolidTy
And vice versa - so do on consoles there are many genres that are not enough covered.

Only thing i feel not represented too well on PC is platformers but even then the great ones like Psychonauts (among others) are on PC. Other then that there's a large amount of great titles in each genre. Fighters have been on the rise on PC as well for quite awhile.
Well said though, you're correct.
How about the people who continued to play Halo 2 after it released up until Gears of War, when it shifted to number 2 on Live Activity? How about Halo 3? Hell, how about even Call of Duty 4? I'm a PC gamer and there's no way console game's "experience runs out in 30 days" -- only a fool would say such a thing.Stevo_the_gamer
And you know, consoles are home to jrpgs. I dont think most people can beat a 100 game in a month considering they have work/school

To be honest - I like them both. My brother loves Train Sims even more.
Where's the great guitar game? You don't have the absolute pinnacle of the genre (Rock Band 2) - all you have is the piss-poor washed-up Guitar Hero 3, and Frets On Fire, which looks like a freshman programming project.Only thing i feel not represented too well on PC is platformers but even then the great ones like Psychonauts (among others) are on PC. Difference is that, while platformers aren't represented on PC as well as consoles, the big ones like Psychonauts and Beyond Good and Evil are on PC (among others, including Beyond Good and Evil's sequal). Whereas Train sims are not represented on consoles at all. Even then, Trains Sims are a very niche portion of the PC gaming market. So the question really is, do you want the option to play both (PC) or just one (Consoles)? ;)

I'm pretty sure that's only for the PS3 and 360. Then again, I haven't checked up on it in awhile.

Audiosurf >>>>>>>>>>> Both of those. And, frankly, if you want to start targeting specific games solely I can pull out Crysis and say "Where's your exclusive game like Crysis?". You simply don't have one...therefore i guess FPS aren't represented at all on consoles.
The irony is that, even with solely playing Guitar Hero 3, you're essentially getting the same experience with Guitar Hero 3 that you would with any Guitar Hero title. And, honestly, do you even think PC gamers care about games like Guitar Hero? Come on, be realistic. But i'm sure you console fanboys care about your FPS...all with autoaim...so where's your exclusive game like Crysis? Don't have one?;)

That's good news. The first BGaE was great, I look forward to the sequel.
30 days!? That's being overly generous... maybe 5.foxhound_fox
Yep, agreed. Anything over a week and console gamers move to the next thing.
I mean, who the hell is still playing Ninja Gaiden Black, KotOR I or II, any of the Final Fantasies, Shadow of the Colossus, Metroid Prime, Halo: CE... I'm sure I've missed out a crapload of games.
If anyone is still playing those above games mentioned, sorry, you're not a true console gamer. Well, according to the PCGA.
That really isnt comparable at all, to what the PCGA is suggesting. Games like Quake (World) still have an extrememly active and dedicated community (same with Quake Fortress), as do games like Diablo and StarCraft -which sports a massive community. You cant compare the above the the few examples listed.*Goes to look at the lifetime matches logged in Halo 3, surpassing Halo 2's lifetime in 1/4th the time*

Besides with online games they tend to stick, because of the player base, however in terms of the console market on a whole, they have a point - the console market has a very high turnover rate, especially compared to the PC one.
As I said in some of my last posts, there are loads of reasons, however in the console market you simply are never going to see 10 year old titles rub shoulders on the store shelves - in almost their original state, next to new releases. Very different markets, very different communities.
This seems to be the markets in general however, that reflect on the respective systems. There is nothing to say that gamers dont go back to play their old console games.... I was playing Super BC Kid / Bonk on my SNES yesterday, however you will find people more frequently replaying older PC titles, and them having large online communities - due to the nature of the platform.
I have to agree. Most Pc gamers have said this for years. I have always had consoles and very rarely play console games for more than a month. There just isn't enough content. Sure some, and its a very small list, have goos online that can last a while but the majority are played, completed and traded in within a few weeks.
I still have every single Pc game i have ever bought sat on my shelves. I often play older games, both sp and mp, some with mods some without. I just don't want to sell any of them. Console games on the other hand, i trade all the time.
So they're essentially a bunch of hermits with a fancy name group name?
You know, I'm still playing 10-year-old PS1 and N64 games. I'm still playing games from my XBox 1. I'm still playing 360 games from 2005, 2006, and 2007. I'm still playing Rock Band almost a year after I got it, and same for Guitar Hero II. This guy is just a fanboy in disguise. V_Isle
Look at it from a MP standpoint, every time the next 'big' MP game comes out all the 'hardcore' gamers go to play that and the old game gets left with the people that dont want to get it, but after a while a fair number go back to the older game, or to the next big thing. A game can have a HUGE community one day on a console and be a vacant space the next
