PS5 Pro - 2TB, disc drive sold separately, $699 price tag

PlayStation may be revealing the long-awaited PlayStation 5 Pro this month, if new rumors are to be believed, but that's apparently not all that PlayStation has planned. Those same rumors suggest that in addition to the PlayStation 5 Pro announcement, we'll also be getting a State of Play meant to showcase some PlayStation 5 games including at least one first-party title that's supposedly going to be pretty big. These rumors follow previous suggestions that Nintendo could be planning a Nintendo Switch 2 announcement or acknowledgment this month, so September could end up quite full of news.

The latest PS5 Pro rumors and talks of a supposed PlayStation State of Play event come from a leaker known as Lunatic Ignus who's had some success in the past with PlayStation announcements and Black Myth: Wukong. According to the leaker's messages shared in Discord, the PS5 Pro will be announced as early as next week.

"Sony will hold a pretty big State of Play next week, the 'big' announcement that all of you are eagerly waiting [for] will take place on Tuesday/Wednesday," the leaker said.

Ignus revised their message soon afterwards to say that the "big announcement" which is presumably the PS5 pro will happen next week, but the State of Play will supposedly take place on either September 19th or September 20th. Of course, both messages were affixed with the usual acknowledgment about taking this with a grain of salt and that the info could be inaccurate, so we'll see in the next two weeks if PlayStation does deliver.

PS5 Pro isn't much of a surprise at this point, but I'm still excited for it to finally get announced! And also I'm very curious about this supposed big first party game that will be showcased. What say you, SW? Are you excited for what PlayStation could have in store for us? I expect Sony to bring out the big guns now that we're midway through the gen.

A Pro announcement alone isn't very exciting. Before that begins to sound interesting, I would need to see what game support and improvements it would bring. Presumably they'll show that, but it's hard to get hyped without even knowing the impact on games.

There are people who say the consoles have not reached their full potential so why is this needed, but there are others who say the current consoles are not powerful enough because not everything is native 4k60 (nevermind 8k).

Because of the mixed views here, I'm mostly interested in seeing the reactions.

Sweet, I can't wait. I hope the SSD triangle processing and ray tracing capabilities are the main focus during the presentation.

Make some people think it's not useless and milk them. No one in their right mind would buy the same, slightly upgraded, console again for a higher price. But Sony fans might.

With the way Sonys gaming division are going currently, they should probably focus more on getting some games out instead of a slight upgrade to the ps5🙄🙄🙄

I'm in for a PS5 Pro just like I got a PS4 Pro. To each their own.. it's not a necessity, but neither is gaming in general.

I'm debating this as well...I hope the console can swap out plates cause I like my PS5 with the black plates

I've a feeling the focus will be on pitching the Wolverine game, and I'm guessing PS5 Pro bundles will be for Wolverine. According to leaked Insomniac files, Sony has to sell a certain threshold to keep the IPs exclusive, otherwise be compelled to port it, so I see a lot of Wolverine bundles. My guess is all PS5 Pros will come with a free copy of it.

Well I've got some bad news for you. It's currently speculated that Sony plan on releasing their next gen system in 2028.

Yea I never thought we would be getting a new gen sooner than 2027/2028. PS4 was 7 years, PS3 was 7 years as well. Plus, this gen got off to a slow start with COVID.

@robert_sparkes: True. It has been rumoured that Microsoft plans on skipping on a mid gen refresh and going with a next gen system in 2026. Sony plan to follow the same path as they did in the previous gen though.

I will def think about it. My plan was to get a Ps5 Pro, but I may be too lazy and just stay with PC. Especially now that many of Sony's games are on Steam.
