It's funny how much relentless bashing XBL received by PS3 users for its $50 price tag and now that Sony does the same, the backpedaling begins and suddenly paying for an online service is worth it.

Sony actually didn't do the same thing as XBL though.

Makes no difference. Paying for online will always be a rip IMO.

I'm with ya about paying to play online its just crazy. But to pay for some extra content, well that is a choice one makes.

Exactly why PSN+ isn't the same as Live, you aren't paying for online.

Our (ps3 owners) online games still and will be played online for free. How is that exactly like what MS did to its customers?

Because I see many PS3 users suddenly supporting this feature when they were the same ones who looked down on XBL for its price tag. Whose to say that Sony won't make this a mandatory payment to continue playing on PSN?

Probably because PSN+ is not forcing to pay to play online, and as for Sony charging to play online, we will cross that bridge when we come to it.

This is great. I love all the free stuff.... MS does not believe in free stuff. You have to pay for 90% of things that are pictures in which you can get on the internet. One more rant, MS also nearly forces dev's to charge for DLC. I hate them for that. When epic tried to release free maps for the original Gears, they said no, same with Halo 3. Where as Sony gives you all the same great things you got but now you get them at a much more discounted price. I love the way their's a plus on everything you get discounted. I look forward to seeing all the great deals in the future. Learn from your mistakes Microsoft.

this is entertaining lol on topic i think psn plus is a good deal i have subscribed and its optional nothing is forced i myself would rather have content games ,avatars themes that all in a year span which will certainly out cost the 50 a year for sub xbox live is cool party chat and voice messaging is awesome very communication just up to preference which one u think is worth the money even tho if u want to play online u have to pay for that is mandatory

The value is highly dependent on the content, and based on the first two months' offerings I'm not giving Sony my money. Paying for a whole year just feels like a gamble. Might pay off and it might not.InsaneBasura
But do you really expect it not to be worth that $50 by the time your subscription is up? I'm sure a lot of it may be small things that you think are decent, while there are gems like Wipeout HD popping up every 3 months or so. I'm sure it'll end up being worth twice as much as you pay for it, and you'll probably get to keep a lot of the little stuff(themes and avatars).

How is XBL Gold better? You're paying for the ability to use things that should be free, yet I don't see as many people complaining about it.

It's certainly pretty good. I signed up just now and I almost "technically" made my money back already. Free 3 months (18 dollar value), Wipeout HD (20), and Rally Cross (6). That's already 44 bucks.

yokofox33
And Boom! This is what the 360 fans that are defending XBL and bashing PSN+ don't get, PSN+ is offering insane value in one month alone, throughout the year the value will just keep growing. You get 0 in return on XBL, MS still has the audacity to force devs to charge for DLC (Valve).

from what I hear canadians dont even get a free full game, only a mini game?. Gold is better than PSN in canada.

but 1 vs 100 beats anything PSN has!

Until you get Cross-game chat, Party chat, Espn, Last Fm, using netflix without a disc, and steam 1080p movies it's not better than XBL. 8)

We get most of that and more, we also have a browser which does tons more. And paying to get games, DLC, themes and tons of content > paying to access something you've already bought.

Well after looking into it..........you can keep PS+ forever, Sony. Not interested. If I pay you money, it is not free. And What I saw just doesn't grab me, much like a lot on Live arcade.

IT'S FREE!!!!!!

But you have to PAY to get this "free" stuff. YOU HAVE TO PAY.

.....IT'S FREE!!!!

Cows are delusional. Come back to me when Sony offers cross game chat for free like Live has. By the way, when your subscription runs out with PSN+, everything that you just spent hard earned money on, is gone. That's it. Live, everything you spend hard earned money on, YOU KEEP FOREVER.

Yes those games are free, as long as you pay for PSN if you decide to stop paying you those games smart one, and welcome to xbox live 2 years ago, and i still laugh at your attempt to slight xbox 360 since you still have no cross game chat and your paying the same amount of money,But lol OOOOOOOO you have DLC packs for download OOOOooOOOO so amazing and new, swear PS3 fan boys are funny to watch becasue they complain "ooo tyou ahve to pays" and now "its the awesomes becasue its on my consoleszorz" stupidity at its finest, PS3 it only makes fanboys sploosh, they should put that in there campaign.

LOL this is a fail list, we have had most of these features since the xbox 360 luanched in 2005 "the ability to add freinds" yeah buddy we've had that since the original Xbox back in 2003 LOL!!! but omg you guys have facebook, wow oh NO i guess i should throw out my **** laptop that can do facebook and youtube better than both consoles, o look Trophies, copy from achievements, oh look demos and videos guys we are seriously beat man we need to step up our game because weve only had demos and videos for 5 years, and im sorry you still need to pay for a netflix subscription in order to watch netflix or did you think netflix would let you see the movies for free? LOL you fail so hard this is why PS3 fanboys are so amusing. Oh and have fun paying 50 dollars for "free games" that are only accesible when you have to pay for PSN plus (stupidity) and also have fun paying 50 dollars a year and not having cross game chat. LOL fail again.

IGN described PS Plus good. '' Colin Moriarty: Exactly. It's not really hard to rationalize it in your head as being a good deal... it's more a matter of if you are willing to do it or not. I pay a monthly subscription to Netflix. That doesn't mean I get to keep every Blu-ray I rent, nor does it mean I get lifetime access to their streaming network. It means that as long as I subscribe, I can watch any of their movies, and when I stop subscribing, I don't have that access anymore. It's ludicrous that people attack this part of PlayStation Plus as being a negative. Let me give you an example. I "bought" WipEout HD last night. It's usually $20, but for me, it was free, because I'm a PlayStation Plus member. Now, a lot of naysayers are quick to say that I'm simply renting the game, because I don't get to keep it if I stop subscribing. So let's say they're right. Let's say that I am renting the game. And let's say that, conservatively, I'd spend $5 a week on a rental from a brick and mortar store. So I get to "rent" Wipeout HD for 64 weeks. If I were to rent it at $5 a week, it'd cost me $320 over that span. Even at a dollar a week, it's still $64, or $14 more than the yearly subscription to PlayStation Plus. Instead, I paid $50 to rent WipEout HD for 15 months, plus I get access to 14 other free games to "rent" over that period, plus I get discounts on games, DLC, and more that I actually get to keep. So... what was the negative again? ''

''killzowned24

I dont rly hate it, i just dont get it, right now the only point of getting it is free games, which depends on what country you live in. but other than that its not different from regular psn

For those criticizing the fact that if you stop paying you can't play the games, the same happens with Live except with ALL games that have online :/

Sniping_Crowbar

actually No granted i can't play games online if i don't pay for Gold but I still own all my games and content no one to tell me i can't play my game on my console becasue i didn't pay.

Well you're missing a good chunk of that game. Do you feel good knowing that Modern Warfare 2 is all yours, with the campaign, Spec Ops and splitscreen for $65?

And tell me that in a year Wipeout HD will be the only thing your gaming craving hungers for. I've traded in plenty of old games, some I regret (want Killzone 2 back) but I don't care as much because i have NEW GAMES

[QUOTE="RogueShodown"] Most of that should be free.

[QUOTE="James161324"]

psn+ pay 50 bucks a year to rent 5-15 dollar games, dlc, 2 dollar thems and avaters, You still don't get cross game chat and psn will still go down. And freeze and crash.

KittenWishes

You must be angry that you're missing out.

Im not going to buy a keyboard and mouse just to use the web browser that sucks. and everything I said was free except for 1 vs 100, which is for gold users, and sumtimes silver users. and hes missing out on buying games? I wouldnt buy PS+ from what I hear I wont even get wipeout HD free

Why did you complain about not being able to use a KB and mouse on the browser if you weren't gonna use it anyway? You're just looking for things to complain about now. I would be surprised if you even own a PS3. I don't know about Wipeout HD, but I don't think it would make sense for Sony to exclude it for certain people, unless replaced by a different game.

XBL has larger record of downtime than PSN. What happened in holiday 2007 alone outweights all of PSN's downtime.

IGN(norant) logic in action, why would you "rent" a game for "64 weeks" from a store? They have to make up their own, bizarre scenarios in order to try and make Sony's elaborate rental service look like value-for-money.

It was like 48 hours and everyone got given FREE GAMES. I've only had XBL Gold for 1.5 years and have never seen it down. PSN is down now and then, especially earlier this year when it had a meltdown.

Maybe his logic wasn't the best, but neither is yours. Sooner or later, PSN+ will pay for itself in that year-long subscription. I'll be surprised if people will look back 1 year( and 3 months for some) from now and think about how much money they wasted buying the subscription. And you know that Gold really isn't value-for-money whether or not you take out all the stuff that should be free. What exactly is in Gold that I either couldn't get for free on PSN or worth the $30-$50 you pay yearly?

If sweepstakes are one of the biggest features of XBL Gold, then I'd rather buy lotto tickets or enter in a raffle. With about 20 million Gold Subscribers, chances of winning are slim to none.

Slightly Tempted to pick this up, I grabed a $50.00 PSN card to get some specific games like Flower and Last guy but I'm slightly tempted to use this on PSN+...I'm still cheesed that once my subscription is up I wont have acess to some/most of my content.

On PSN+, you pay to use features you could have other ways. On XBL Gold, you pay to unlock features of which most could be free. See the difference? I hope you're being sarcastic.

Looks like Sony is following Microsofts lead. Rumour has it that you can access Hulu only by subscribing to PS+, and I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix goes next, and if they start taking about things from the regular PSN.

[QUOTE="TehNubTuber"]Dude Sony said they WOULD keep adding content what are you talking about? And With Live once you stop paying the online portion of all your games stops working too... Not sure why your calling PSN+ on that if your such a big PS3 fan and ignoring Live tremendous flaws.ZIMdoom

I'm saying the games they offer don't accumulate. SO they are offering Wipeout HD this month. If you don't download it, it goes away. This is very clearly stated on Sony's own website:

As a subscriber, you can expect to get your hands on free monthly PSN games, minis and PS One Classics from the PSN Store. You will be able to download these games during the month they are available until the new selection replaces them.

So what I was saying is that they aren't technically ALWAYS adding stuff so much as replacing it each month with new choices. But for people who don't sign up THIS MONTH, they miss out.

And no, with XBL, your games DON'T stop working. If you buy/download a game off of XBL, it is yours. Just like if you download a game off of PSn...it is yours FOR EVER. But if you download Wipeout this month as their "deal", then you decide the service isn't for you, you LOSE that game. You can no longer play it. So what did you pay for?

Like I said, I'm still going to subscribe, but I don't see anything that "mindblowing" about it.

This.
