It's true. It is influential. I mean look how it popularized console FPS's and how it revolutionized Console multiplayer. Plus it brought lots of new gamers into the console world.

the design of the xbox's controller was instrumental in the gameplay, yet EGM will ignore this factoid....

I doubt it, more like other fps are influencing it. Halo 1 didn't even have dual weilding. Halo may be the most popular fps, but most fps have stayed true to their roots are completly original unlike halo.

Plus the controls were so perfect that almost every console FPS out there had a very similar control scheme to Halo's and anyone could get the hang of any FPS after playing Halo (console wise).

I don't remember Goldeneye having it's own Slurpee cups and Burger King meals. Face it, Halo is one of the most influential IP's ever. On any platform. That doesn't mean it's the best FPS series, just means it's the most influential.

This has nothing to do with PC FPS, as the guys/gals over at EGM are console people through and through, just listen the their podcast. The GFW guys wouldn't agree with that, their sister magazine owned by Ziff Davis. PC FPS have their own feel.

Also, aren't you the poster who thought the PC wasn't capable of HD resolutions? lol.....

Influential. Not original or evolutionary. It took all those aspects of games and refined them and made them great. Just like GeOW taking the killswitch cover system and making it perfect.

Haha, rubbish.

So many of Halos features have been copied into other console FPSs. You look at any modern console FPS and you can immediately see Halo influences. Halo may have taken ideas from other games, but they perfected the crude ideas they took.

No matter how much you hate the series, its influence to shooters is damn obvious to see.

Walk up to a random guy on the street and ask: Which game out of this list do you know? List all those games plus Halo and the chances of the guy saying Halo is much greater than the rest. Simply because it was so influential.

Wow.

You don't have to be unique or innovative to be influential. Take the movies. Just about every kind of sty1e or angle or crane shot or this and that has been done but it doesn't mean someone can't come along and do it and influence people with their take on it.

Halo is inspired by other fps and games or bungie was rather just like Nirvana was inspired by the meat puppets and the beatles and etc...

Half Life has sold just as many copies as Halo. On the PC, Half Life is king. I don't see how people can claim halo is the biggest FPS ever, that's not true.

how many games drove a vehicle using the camera? on a console...

how many games ushered in an era of online console gaming like the halo franchise did?

yes..influential...get used to it...;)

No, he's pretty much right.

Look at the FPS landslide we are in at the moment on consoles, then look at the 7 million tag next to Halo 2 sales figures. It doesn't take a genius to put two and two together.

I don't remember Goldeneye having it's own Slurpee cups and Burger King meals. Face it, Halo is one of the most influential IP's ever. On any platform. That doesn't mean it's the best FPS series, just means it's the most influential.

how can it be the most influential when many of it's ideas were copied from other games and most of it's original ideas have never been copied?

Influential. Not original or evolutionary. It took all those aspects of games and refined them and made them great. Just like GeOW taking the killswitch cover system and making it perfect.

well how does that make GeOW influenctial?

Haha, rubbish.

So many of Halos features have been copied into other console FPSs. You look at any modern console FPS and you can immediately see Halo influences. Halo may have taken ideas from other games, but they perfected the crude ideas they took.

No matter how much you hate the series, its influence to shooters is damn obvious to see.

1. I don't halo, I like it. 2. You guys keep talking about halo's influance on other games, but what is there influence? What did other FPSs see in halo that was so unique and original that they had to copy it?

the health system for starters.. no medipacks..;)

grenade jumps? fun stuff....

c'mon..i'm sure you can think of a few....

Well, first time I saw a grenade jump was in Quake 2.

And first time I saw the lack of medipacks was in COD 2.

[QUOTE="tomarlyn"]Well they're absolutely right, its the defining FPS of the 3D era in the mass market's eyes.

Half Life has sold just as many copies as Halo. On the PC, Half Life is king. I don't see how people can claim halo is the biggest FPS ever, that's not true.

I don't ever consider the PC base as mass market IMO. Half Life is arguably better, but the casual gamer (the mass market gamer) loves his console's and nothing creates as much hysteria as Halo. It also brought the FPS to the living like never before.

I don't remember anyone buying or upgrading a PC to get some Half Life, I know a lot of people that got an XBOX for Halo.
