Anyone else find this demo hard? I was able to beat the first section due to the time limit. But I always get killed by that chainsaw guy in the shanty village. It's like he never dies no matter how much I shoot him!ShinobishyguyIt was the complete opposite for me at first, then I figured out that you wern't supposed to try and take on the giant axe guy in the first section, but I beat the chainsaw guy. On my second playthrough of the shantytown though sheeva got surrounded by zombies and died. Did you try using the sniper rifle and explosive barrels?
[QUOTE="blues35301"][QUOTE="3picuri3"]Did you play 4? There was MORE ammo. And to you're gears complaints, GEARS OF WAR STEMMED FROM RESIDENT EVIL 4. yeah, i really remember ammo dropping from fruit. guess i'm just a lot better at the game this time around, or you're totally wrong. I'll go with number 2 based on the number of other people saying RE5=easy mode, kthx. and please. gears did not stem from re4. re5 did however talk time & time again about gears and how it was influencing their design & controls, but apparently not enough to make them non-convoluted. and they're zombies. period. And Cliffy B talked time and time again about how RE4 influenced him in making Gears of War.no, my fear was that they'd 'Gears' this game & in a sense they did, and that's why i hated the demo. it's too easy. ammo is all OVER the place. no challenge apart from the controls.
i've always felt that making controls convoluted in survival horror games to add to tension is weak design. at least give people the option to set their own controls - or put fewer things on modifiers if that makes sense.. all actions shouldn't require holding 2 buttons. my main gripe is that RT can't be moved off of 'locate partner' in any of the configurations, which leads me to think they're purposely making things difficult just to add difficulty to the game.. when instead, they could've taken a look at removing the nade / ammo melons.
and they'll always be zombies to me, despite their level of cognition. i just feel it introduce plot problems i outlined. if they're somewhat smart why aren't they picking up weapons other than cleavers? if you can use and operate a megaphone you sure as **** could use a gun.

[QUOTE="3picuri3"][QUOTE="PBSnipes"]yeah, like i was saying to my mate today - this is like 'hollywood does RE'.. they fore go the tension, atmosphere, difficulty, in favor of action, visuals, and ease of use / accessibility. After further consideration, I think the problem isn't so much the control scheme as it is the games (apparent) increased focus on shooting and action. People keep saying that adding in true shooter controls would break the tension. What tension? You create tension through a combination of suspense, atmosphere and difficulty, not throwing droves of mindless, easy-to-kill enemies at the player 15 seconds into the game.

Did you guys play RE4? Because this is exactly like it. It seems like you guys didn't know what to expect, so that leads me to believe you've never played RE4.
I think the suspense and atmosphere were better in RE4, but the game isn't out yet so it's too early to judge. However, it is early enough to say that when you walked into that village for the first time in RE4 and got attacked by one guy, you had no idea what you were up against and what it's motives were. In this case you come into RE5 semi-prepared because of the game's themes not being brand new as it were.
RE4 pits you against one Gonado to start with and just at that moment you could see something was just radically wrong with him, even when he spoke it was like he was telling you to GTFO his house. You are slowly introduced to a sort of twisted society slowly but surely, you even observe them farming but acting seemingly vacant, like zombies. That experience is unlikely to be had by the player in RE5 unless you are a first time player and the game starts as an 'introductory' horror for all the newbs. However I don't doubt that a theme of the previous game has remained intact; the player comes to an isolated and messed up society to which he/she is alien (enemies always speak in their own language to convey this further).
Its exactly what I thought it was going to be: Not scary at all, Action adventure game with tacked on Co-Op so you can play a survival horror with friends  I think its going to flop honestly but atleast the graphics were good.Gh0st_Of_0nyxI agree.
[QUOTE="BioShockOwnz"][QUOTE="II-FBIsniper-II"]I played the first level five times so far and I've died every time about five minutes after the big guy comes in. It's my first RE game, but it is getting frustrating because the girl always dies even though she has half her health. I haven't tried the second level yet.II-FBIsniper-II
The 1st level was even easier. I just killed the first wave of enemies, then when that big goof came after me, I ran to the platform that you jump off of. I jumped from platform to platform until I reached the final one. I just stood up there with Sheva and we both defended ourselves against the villagers until the chopper arrived. That way we only had to deal with the normal villagers, and not the big one.
What platfrom are you talking about? Edit: Nevermind, I found it. When I tried this last time, the action button didn't pop up.Try and kill the big dude, sheva should cover you for the most part, and remember there is a hidden weapon (well... sort of) at the other end of the market.

well... it happens. I don't think it's that the game is hard, it's just that enemies appear to be unpredictable, and sometimes you die or are just KO'd by enemies but if the big dude attacks you it's a given that you will die if he hit's you with low health. Online it isn't as much of a problem because of comunication but they need to sort out the friendly AI... She seems to struggle when trying to kill those flying things and the chainsaw dude practically scares her away from using that beloved MP5.

The guy with the big axe all I did was shoot him with a shotgun gun. It stunned him with 1-2 hits. When he was down I would go close to him to do the close attack. Afterwards I would runaway and rinse and repeat.
Used similar strategy with the guy with the chainsaw after using up all ther explosive barrels.
I do not see how some feel that there is no survival horror element here. Let's take the shanty town level in the demo as an example here. It has a clausterphobic, ran down, filthy corridor environment with mobs of infected lurking around every corner with hatchets, bottles, flaming cross bows, ect. Let's see, by the end of the demo in this level, I found myself running around these clausterphobic corridors, desparately looking for ammo, while being chased by a mob of an infected. One of which, in true RE4 fashion, is weilding a blood soaked, razor toothed chainsaw and has a burlap sack over his head. If that is not a survival horror element, then I guess I do not know what is.
In fact, despite the similarities to RE4, everything but the environment felt more tense and suspenseful to me. The difficulty has definitely been ramped up a tad, just going by the demo. I do like the darker, more 'evil' vibe the atmosphere in RE4 had, but the rest of RE5 may end up changing my mind. I'll just have to wait and see. Other than that though, I feel as if this will be a more challenging, more tense game than RE4, and the fact that it is more action packed is certainly not gong to take anything away from it either, if you ask me. Especially with the visual presentation and special effects on display.
difficulty is ramped up? are you ******* joking me? RE4 was far harder than this demo. i'm hoping, praying, that this demo is easy mode and there will be at least 2 harder settings. maybe you haven't realized that fruit, and many things, contain ammo / grenades for some stupid reason... and that you can infinitely revive your partner. this, so far, and i want to wait until retail to make a final judgement, this is the easiest RE i've played by FAR.I do not see how some feel that there is no survival horror element here. No, I found the ammo in the fruit, which I thought was an amusing little touch. You may be able to heal your partner infinitely, however, having to keep an eye on them, while at the same time trying to stay alive yourself gives it an added element of challenge, if you ask me. I am sure that a lot of it was that it was my first time playing the game, but it just felt more clausterphobic and tense to me. In regards to RE4, I personally felt it was not a very difficult game at all, albeit it was a great one. The level of challenge to me was just about the right balance.
The demo was all kinds of fun on especially on co-op. I suck at games with shooting elements and uaually don't enjoy them but it was so fun. Only thing is, this demo was in no way, shape, or form scary. I mean broad day light africa, that is not scary at all regardless of how much they tried. It was intense and I loved that, but scary it was not.ActicEdgeya but in late game you get to probably go down underground or something, it does become night as well go watch alot of the trailers
The demo was great but i have a question for everybody.
1.) Who else felt the controls are clunky, this is my first RE game ever (Yes, im serious), and the controls, while tolorable, are somewhat clunky and a bit of a cluster****, though im sure some RE vets are used to it, coming from Gears 2, it's just so clunky.
2.) Who else was running out of ammo like CRAZY!, every 5 seconds i only had about 10 bullets to a gun, and the for the shotty i only had about 5 at any given time, even cutting open everything, i found myself running out of ammo lots of times. Its also very hard to hit the head of a zombie, so i end up missing alot of shots.

Oh, I have no doubt it will become more scary. I'm just commenting on what I played in the demo. I can't wait to play the whole game, its gonna be sweet.
the controls have always been that way so no biggie and yes its survival so resources are scarceThe demo was great but i have a question for everybody.

ohh yea it'll be really good and for long time fans th strafe is a godsendI played. It was great. Co-op was awesome.
- It's harder than I thought. The huge hooded guy with the giant axe and the masked chainsaw dude took an insane amount of bullets to bring down. I ended up using around 20 shotgun caps (coupled with some satisfying uppercut punches) to finally kill the giant axe guy (while fighting the other villagers). The chainsaw dude JUST WOULDN'T DIE! Jesus I swear I used everything I had on him, my handgun, about 3 grenades, my sniper rifle, machine gun that I stole from Sheva, lured him into some explosive barrels and in the end, he ends up chainsawing Sheva. Mission failed. It took me at least 5 tries to finally beat him.
And this was all in the first 2 levels :?
I don't care anyway. I can't wait to get the game. Day one purchase for me :D
i played it when it was first available online to burn on a disc
i don't think its all that great. i miss the old re's :(
i wonder what they'll call the new dr. salvadorI played. It was great. Co-op was awesome.
