Sony has failed in Japan to an even greater degree than Microsoft

O) Nobody is saying the xbox is better than the PS3 or vica versa. We all know the PS3 is out-selling the 360 in Japan.

O) The point of the thread, is that the xbox is simply continuing to do badly like it did last gen; the PS3 on the other hand, has gone from complete dominance to complete failure.

O) The thread: why is this? What have they done to lost such a huge advantage? How can they fix it.

Anyone who posts who clearly hasn't at least read that will simply be ignored.

This is something i've only come to realise recently. There are plenty of threads on sales and what-not, but i dont think people around system wars have a perspective on just how bad the PS3 is doing in Japan

An interesting statistic:

If the Wii were to be pulled off the shelves in Japan right now, it would take four years for the Playstation 3 to catch up in sales, if it continued to sell at the rate it is now.

Another statistic:

This isn't a simple slump. The Playstation 3 has an established trend of eight to ten thousand units a week.

Whereas the Xbox 360 has simply failed to turn around the poor standing on the original xbox, Sony have done so much more in somehow managing to turn around complete dominance into absolute failure.

This is pretty much Japan in a nutshell as far as console sales go. What do people think? Can Sony fix this?

Again, you thought wrong. Actually read the post before responding with fanboy-thrusters on maximum power.

The thread is about how Sony have managed to go from complete dominance to complete failure. Why did this happen? And can they fix it? As Sony fans have always said, you cannot win a "console war" without the support of Japanese gamers.

Well, the PS3 will do better once some JPRGs are out. But it's becoming quite obvious the PS3 is going to lose a ton of marketshare the PS2 had.

At this point, the PS3 will struggle to sell even 60mil units before the PS4 is out.

At least its over 9,000. But you really can't say this situation wasn't bound to happen. Gundam and VF5 are the only games that appeal to Japanese. One of them sucks and the other one won't get great sales due to arcades.Blackbond

Exactly. If the Wii were to be pulled form the shelves right now, and we waited the year or so for both games to be released...I still think the PS3 would be behind the Wii.

As for your point there, Blue Dragon is arguably the best JRPG on current gen consoles. The 360 is still failing however. Final Fantasy will help the PS3, but it cant pull it out of the hole it's in right now. Just look at the sales.

Exactly. The minority who've actually bought the system will snatch up a great game. But the great game itself wont make that big a difference in sales of actual consoles. Final Fantasy will undoubtedly sell very well amongst those who own a PS3, but i wouldn't expect PS3 sales to turn around on its release day. It's big but it's not THAT big.

Sony need to do something fast to pull the PS3 out of the hole it's sitting in. I dont think it's failed yet, whereas the 360 seems destined to improve, but not by any vast degree.

I didn't say they wouldn't sell. Brush up on that reading comprehension okay. I'm just saying that the Wii's lead might be too large by the time those games are released. Those two games might sell well but only one is a system seller and if you haven't noticed the PS3 is getting outsold by ludicrious amounts. These games would have to turn the tables completely on the Wii for it to catch the Wii. Can you really ever see the Wii getting outsold by the PS3 3:1, 4:1, 5:1? Let alone 8:1 which was last week?

FFXIII will help PS3 to sell in Japan. Will it top the Wii?? I dont think so. The JP love the Dragon Quest and FF. To them is like Halo to you guys. Do you think Halo is a system seller?

The main reason I see why PS3 aren't selling in Japan. For one, Size is too big for JP taste and two lack of RPG or Soccer games. RFOM and Motorstorm are decent games but they dont fit the Taste of Japanese gamers.

I also dont understand why you're comparing 360 and PS3 sales. At no point have i said one is any better than the other. I even posted a graph showing the PS3 destroying 360 sales.

mgs doesnt sell well in japan. mgs is more popular in the us/europe region. FF is a diff story in japan.

My copy of Guilty Gear X2 Reloaded with online play begs to disagree. Forget 360, Wii, and DS its all about Guilty Gear right now. Hmm a new one is coming out on the Wii soon. Guess its time to get some classic controllers.

I love when cows use this arguement and yet claim the Wii has no games worth playing. Yet Paper Mario and Zelda have outscored every exclusive the PS3 has to offer.
