Xbox Infinity with subscription is said to have cheaper parts and is $500 with subscription. It will not be $600. It absolutely will not cost that much. I'm gonna bet on $450.

MS is eating a loss on it too.
Another $599.99 PS4 is looking more likely.
yeah cause sony hates gamers - yet they are the only company making new fresh IPs...I remember when Sony used to care about gamers and take big losses on all their consoles. Sad to see this.

Tretton said he "hopes" it's not $600
That pretty much confirms it will be in that range
Tretton also said he "hopes" that the PlayStation 4 won't cost $599 at launch (the PlayStation 3 launched in two models, at $499 and $599). "When I think about the console, you open it up, you look at it, you certainly look at it when you insert a disc, but for most people, it's behind a cabinet or on a shelf somewhere and you spend all your time looking at the screen," Tretton said

No official pricing has been anounced on the new Xbox. It hasn't even been formally revealed :| . The PS4 will not cost $600. I'm having a hard time swallowing the main SKU even being $500. That would essentially say Sony learned nothing from last gen. They will not price themselves out of the competition like that.

Theres no freaking way its going to be $600. The ps3 was running a $250-300 GPU with a custom IBM processor and a blue ray drive back when blue ray players/drives where 5-7x the value of what they are now. The ps4 is using a GPU that was mid range in freaking early 2012 and a processor that is x86 based (pc architecture). It should be like $400-450 tops
Are you considering the 720 standalone model will be $500, sold at a loss by MS?Theres no freaking way its going to be $600. The PS4 is supposedly more powerful.
I don't know the 720 specs to its pointless to comment on it (hence why my post was soley regarding the ps4 and how the hardware they choose should be cheaper since its PC based + they don't have to pay a $100 markup on a blueray drive since its cheap). Are you considering the 720 standalone model will be $500, sold at a loss by MS?

The 720 might have to be sold at a lost since every unit comes with Kinect (that crap isn't cheap).
PS4 should be $450 tops given what I have stated (blue ray players are MUCH cheaper + the parts are more standarized/not at powerful as last generation)

Kinect tech is dirt cheap nowadays$25 per unit before the mark up
I can't comment at that because I don't know if there changing/updating the next gen kinect and all i know is what they sell at (90-100 buck new). Regardless that doesn't really have anything to do with my original post/point (I don't know why we are talking about this)Kinect tech is dirt cheap nowadays

There is no real custom hardware in the thing. That drastically reduces the cost of the device.
They'll also probably have PS+ subscription levels day 1. The PS4 will generate revenue much better than the PS3 ever could without screwing the customer.

$250-300 GPU?
The GPU was the cheapest thing in the PS3 other than the harddrive. The XDR Ram, Blu-ray drive, and cell all cost far more to develop because they were either new or only used in the PS3.
The PS4 is using more off-the-shelf hardware. AMD is taking hardware they already build and just customizing it for Sony. It's a lot cheaper than building a whole new processor. The Cell was a massive investment that didn't pay off and XDR ram never went anywhere. That kept the manufacturing costs high on the PS3. They also had a last minute deal with Nvidia to provide a GPU which probably cost them quite a bit.

The PS4 been stronger has nothing to do with MS $500 pricing,MS can price the xbox at $800 that has nothing to do with the PS4,it has to do with MS making profits out of the gate, there is no way in hell MS can justify a $500 with those lame ass specs.
If the xbox 720 actually retails for $500 MS will be making a huge profit on each unit, and when i say huge i mean probably $120 or more per unit.
It was poor wording on my part (I was basically saying that the ps4's GPU was about as powerfull as a $250-300 card at launch). That won't be the case this time (the GTX 660 SC which is a tad faster than a stock 7870 will be like $140 brand new by the end of the year)$250-300 GPU?

So? It will be like PS+ today. Optional but worth it.
[QUOTE="Tessellation"]Dat GDDR5 is expensive,it was the trojan horse to get basement dwellers to buy the console :cool:Wasdie
No it's not. It's very cheap. Ever major GPU today uses it. The amount it gets manufactured brings the price down considerably.
it cost around 80 or more for 8gigs
It's not important what PS4 costs as long as it doesn't cost more (or unconscionably more) than Xbox as far as Sony should be concerned. All discussions about pricing are posturing maneuvers meant to try and psych out competitors. It'll cost what it's worth when you choose to buy one (digest it for a moment).
I remember people saying that about the PS3It will not be $600. It absolutely will not cost that much. I'm gonna bet on $450.

Not really. You're getting 8 gigs on a board, not smaller amounts, which always cost more. Buy in bulk. Order large quantities, much larger than Nvidia or AMD would order at once, and order larger GB amounts at once and the prices will drop even further.
It'll be 450 to 500, Sony doesn't want to have to hear the $599 joke for 7 more years :P
Hey, if it's all that it's cracked up to be it'll be definitely worth the $500, can't wait to see what the console actually looks like. I'm going to make sure I get a couple original style model's (At launch and then one with die shrinks and revisions), because Sony's slim lines are cheap piece's o' crap (not the Ps1 though). They'll make a sleek and great looking first model, then get rid of it and give us some cheap shit. Why can't they just make the slim like a smaller first model? Ugh.
