Probably because it's a cake walk and does nothing that's new or exciting. So he praises the game virtually nonstop, and gives it an 8, because? Yeah, I don't understand this one, but Super Mario 3D Land will probably be the first game I buy when I get a 3DS.

Great score! (Though I kind of expected 8.5 at least.) Mario Land 3D, MK7, Zelda SS, Kirby AND Kirby... My Nintendo "to buy" list is through the roof!
DRAGONPIECEZ
Me too! Picking this up Sunday, then Zelda( which i'm super super hyped for) the following Sunday, then Mario Kart 7 when it comes out Dec.Gonna be a fun gaming season!

I bought a 3DS about 2weeks ago just to play this game! Super pumped!
Again you prove that you're just spewing BS without reading into the gameProbably because it's a cake walk and does nothing that's new or exciting.Bread_or_Decide
Nowhere in the review does it say it's a cake walk :?

Yeah! I'm getting Collector's Edition day 1!! Dat gold remote /drools
Not sure if I'm picking up ML3D and MK7 up day one though. I don't wanna split my play time up between games. Christmas gifts, perhaps.

Yeah i know what you mean! Its not too bad for me since its different platforms and different genres.MK7 would serve as a good break time from lengthy session adventuring as Link :P And i can also play 3DS when i'm not home so that'll come in handy :)

A flop here means nothing. It will still sell millions. I will still buy it. Everybody esle for the most part is giving it high reviews (9+). Also I think GS has something ageanst handhelds, so few handheld games this generation have gotten 9+...unless I'm mistaken.

So, I'm going to actually read the review and see what they don't like about the game. "One feature that doesn't add much to the experience is 3D. The effect is purely optional, meaning the 3D is pure eye candy with minimal impact on the gameplay. At its best, the effect adds a neat sense of depth when you're underwater or a touch of vertigo in the air. But these tricks have been used before, and it would have been nice to see this new feature used in more interesting ways. " Hm, okay. So 3D isn't used that well, but neither does it take away from the game. "Some of the other features also lack creativity." I'll accept that as a valid flaw, though Streetpass and the gyrometer.. aren't those things that most of us here in SW don't really care about anyway? *searches for more* *review is over* *it's only a page long* *the entire review is under 900 words long* Now let's look at the positive. Well-crafted stages for all skill levels Simple, responsive controls Player-assistance items are great in a pinch Invokes 2D Mario in a 3D world. Okay, so the stages are well done, the game controls well, it has some nice features, and it is something fairly new for Mario. Streetpass and the gyrometer aren't used well. Really, I don't like damage control, but I can really see where people are coming from when they call this a terrible review. It is short, lacks criticism for the game, is a review in the minority (due to the score), and really only points out good things about the game. I say nothing on the quality of the game, but I say that the quality of the review is terrible. SoraX64A well made average game is still average. Some games can have ZERO flaws but that doesn't entitle it to a AAA score. Clearly this game just has zero wow factor. It's just mario...the same mario we've been playing for years...and does very little to refresh the formula. Compared to SMG which reinvented platforming with it's insanely awesome level design. Just because it doesn't have tons of flaws doesn't entitle it to a AAA score. It needs to stand out in someway and this game just doesnt's tand out. Unless you're a sheep and anything with marios face on it excites you.
I understand that, but they still did not give any indication that it is only an average game, and with the majority of reviews giving the game a higher score, it seems as if the consensus of the critics is that the game is really, really good. I wouldn't say what I did without noticing that beforehand, but when other publications are giving the game 9's and 9.5's, and GS writes a review saying that it's a good game, and then they only give it an 8, something seems.. off. Edit: And I'm not trying to say that GS's reviewer's opinion is invalid, but that one 8/10 review among a group of 9/10+ reviews doesn't make the game only average.A well made average game is still average. [QUOTE="Bread_or_Decide"] This is the wrong thread to be saying it...cause it is just damage control. Just accept your flop that's the best way to react. wolverine4262Why cant I discuss a game on here without getting arguments like this? I already said earlier that I dont care what it scores, and I preordered it after I saw the GS score. Its not a matter of accepting a flop, as I take no stock in GS scores to begin with. If you want to say it flopped on the site, thats fine and true. But, its not "my flop"....Im not the kind of person that tallies AAAe's like it matters.... anymore. true, but gs scores are respected, meaning you will enjoy an 8.0 calibur mario game, not a 10 calibur mario game. maybe i will play it too some day, but its somewhere at the bottom of my long list of PS3 games i need to play first.

I wouldn't be surprised if it happen again with skyward sword, regardless of how good the game is.WTF? Once again, GameSpot is the lowest score and outlier.

I knew it would be in the shadows of the masterpiece that is Galaxy 2. Mehh, I didn't see anything special in it either, but I knew it would be a good game.:P Either way, I'll play it some day, but Nintendo, you're only getting my money for Zelda and nothing else for a long ass time bruh.
Another flop for the 3DS. After the huge amout of hype the 3DS received after its announcement at E3, surely this has to be the most disappointing handheld / entertainment device of all time.
The Wii U's announcement was a fail, i can't imagine how bad it will be once it launches.
