looks like the 3ds winter extravaganza is off to a rocky start. Hopefully Mario Kart doesn't get sucked into the year of the flops. And I don't really have much hope for Kid Icarus and Luigis Mansion 2 to get AAA.

The 3DS' winter extravaganza is about sales, so it's too early to say that. Mario Kart Wii got underwhelming reviews, everyone hated it, and it sold about 101 million copies.
I like this one. Should I change the title to this? :P

I don't think it is good but it works since it is a racing game it wouldn't flop it would crash.

But it isn't like Mario hasn't flopped before Sunshine.
Zelda never flopped until Twilight Princess flopped on Gamespot.
Majora's MaskWell I don't know if it had a lot of fallout from that review. Because I'm not sure if the metagame was active then. But I know it was when Super Mario Sunshine and Twilight Princess both flopped.
I wouldnt base your decision off one review :) The review does say alota positive things about the game and its gotten higher scores else..I'd say atleast rent it :)

Well if you read the review the game is more than decent, he does give it alot of praise.I think people are overacting a bit to the score. IGN and Game Informer both gave it 9.5 so i'm guessing its a decent game.On GS 8.0= Great.

Bit lower than I expected, but I was not exactly expecting a 9.5, either.
I was thinking 8.5.
Otherwise, from everything I've seen from the gameplay videos, that seems about right. To me, from the looks of it, it has reminded me of a lot of a 3D equivalent of New Super Mario Bros: a great, but not revolutionary, Mario game.

LOL! I'm a bit biased toward Mario games i have to admit :PI gave Mario Sunshine a 9.6, i really loved that game.I've pretty much enjoyed every Mario game i've played, i doubt this will be an exception when i pick it up Sunday :)

The GS review is so confusing when IGN's has two paragraphs detailing how integral the 3D is in the game... Anyway, I just preordered the game like an hour ago.

When will retail 3ds titles be available thru DD and games tie to my account instead of the system itself? It was borderline insane for the wii to be set-up like that but 5 years later there's no reasonable explanation for it. Besides being able to recharge people for the same games, again. And my hardware complaints aren't about aesthetics. It's about the bottom screen lacking 3d and being smaller than the top screen. With the ds both screens could be used as a primary screen for games. Now its just a glorified pause/inventory screen.

I honestly dont pay much attention to GS reviews out side of the footage I get to see in the video reviews. IGN and Joystiq gave the game a 9+. The joystiq review was even done by a guy who wasnt supposed to be the reviewer. He just liked it so much, he ended up finishing the game before the actual reviewer...

Sure, I'm just saying that it doesn't really matter if it gets 8s from some places. The main thing is getting a Mario game onto the platform because it always drives sales like mad, and this combined with Mario Kart should do that to some extent.

Because those are obviously hated reviewers by almost everyone. This review wasn't that bad people like to look at the score and think there is some huge problem or bad mechanic in the game, when in reality the reviewer probably liked mostly everything about it but what he liked about it wasn't AAA quality in his opinion.

XPlay is usually on par with the general concensus on most games and if they aren't who cares...reviews are just opinions there's no way to review a game based solely on facts. I really don't know what gamers expect except for reviews to tell them what they want to hear. Which is never gonna happen. As far as I'm concerned there is no way of getting credentials that make you any more or less a credible game reviewer. I sure as heck don't trust internet fanboys.
