SW, what is it about the wii that makes so many of you inherently hate it?

I don't hate it, I do have a list of problems with it as big as your arm but it's still a console that has brought more pop culture noteriety to modern gaming. Is that a bad thing? Yes in some respects (pop culture is on whole whole made up by those who want to sell it to us at biggest profit with least effort) but at the very lest it has reduced the stigma of gaming even if most of the new audience is transagent and fickle some will stay and move on deeper things either on the same system (LKS that kind of thing) or even better on a real.... i mean other system.

ActicEdge

That's nice but the thing is I still think you have missed the point. Nintendo hasn't been evil with the wii. They went a different direction but the way the industry shiftts is out of thier hands. I don't want the non traditional gamers to go buy the games you like man. Let's be honest, that's not what they want to play and it wasn't created for them. Please grasp this simple concept. The software is designed for newer gamers to enjoy, the tradittional software is for everyone. Wanting the library to improve is in the hands of the industry, the people no one is blaming.

Red my big ass bullet points further up, Nintendo could fix the online with firware updates yet they refure to get rid of the on-line crippling frind codes. Just one example of a wider failier to make a decent gaming console and decent gaming enviroment for third parties. Do you think They like having the on-line so poor? Do you think the real lack of support from ninendo is good for them?

[QUOTE="Ratchet_Fan8"]Oh,so thats it.Well,as someone has stated before,it gets UNDESERVED attraction and sales.since the wii is Flawed in almost everyway (Online, graphs, and a library full of crap) And all those things, despite being crap, sell. Very sad,and some quality games such as Infamous, hardly sell.

Ratchet_Fan8

Here's the thing, its not undeserved. Nintendo went a different route, they threw away alll the things they felt were holding back people from gaming and provided them with a console and software to enjoy. Sony and Microsoft didn't do this. They don't even get credit for trying. Your flaws are part of the point of this thread, the things you see as flaws aren't a flaw to the general public. That's why the console is successful. Its not Nintendo's fault inFamous could only sell like 750k units. Its sony's fault for not understanding what and what isn't important to the buyer.

>_> For infamous,i was just giving a damn example.Gamers prefer like last gen,a ton of games,MP and now online.People hate it for not having these things.. *for the topic title*

Then give a better example. What gamers want and hate to the bone is different. You are not addressing the opening. Go back and read it.

They don't really hate the Wii , nobody does. It's just an object , it's not serious business.

loco145

The "gaming journalist" in the OP just said that they do hate the Wii. Also, the quote I talk about at my blog listed in my sig.

I think deep down that they really don't. Just my opinion.

So? Simon Cowell knows what people want it doesn't stop 90% od what he produces being utter **** that people will throw away next month. People get mixed up here. Popular =/= good. Queens of the stone gae sell less records than Bass Hunter, i don't care what the masses of mindless consumers want i care about decent games!! Who gives a **** waht the man on the street thinks, most wii onwes wouldn't know a decent third party game if a beat them to death with it. I once met someone who thought the greatest shooter ever made was Red Steel. That just isn't right.

I never said popular = good. Bolo, go back and fin where I have said that. Do not act like I'm being unreasonable here. In this whole thread it has not been about the wii not having flaws or it is perfect. Read the ****ing open and find where I day that. Read the ****ing whole thread and find where I say that. Don't bother me with this type of comment, I like your posting but I don't care to talk if you want to put words in my mouth and not address the opening.

No, and they can't fix anything through firmware. There was an article where it stated the firmware and the system itself was designed to the point where none of the issues can be fixed through updates. I'll look for it. Nintendo is family friendly. I can't say other wise. There online sucks, I can't say other wise but the games on the system are not all by them. The general quality of there games are top notch, the third parties, not so much. What I think is irrelevant, I'm not Iwata, I don't agree with all there philosophy but they are doing so well, what do I honestly say?

TC, can't you just let the Wii haters just hate it.. with or without reasons? I mean, everyone's taste differs, you're not gonna convince them that the Wii is not bad or have them buy the Wii. This is like the 3rd WHY DO PEOPLE HATE THE WII topic this week.

Hit the floor? shift of the wind? What are you talking about? Punch-out! is one of the best game of this gen.

I;ve been adressing the OP this whole time, the flaws of the Wii right out of the gate and it's success whilst having woefully inadiqute shoftware and hardware/ on-line has made gamers angry and a bit defensive and i don't really blame them. How can a system sell 50 million whist the support from nintendo practically dries up? And the support from third parties had alreadt practically died.

Sure I could but that would be againstt this thread. I made this thread for answers, you don't have to post here. Leave if you want.

Where in this thread have I even attempted to do that?

This is my thread and I'll do as I wish,I don't care whether you approve or not.

The Wii is in a class of it's own. Nintendo correctly predicted what the public wanted and has provided the most gaming concentric experience of any of the consoles.

I don't deny that the Wii is in need of a price cut soon, but that doesn't negate the fact that Nintendo has offered the best bang for your buck throughout this gen. I don't want to go too in-depth with opinion, but some features that I think make the Wii a great console are as follows:

-Nintendo sticking with only 1 sku

-Full hardware BC with GameCube. *Includes 4 GC controller ports and 2 mem card slots.

-Built-in WiFi

-USB and SD card slots. SDHC now enabled with storage solution for up to 32GB cards.

-Free Online play

-Motion control, now perfected with M+

-Web Access. Nintendo gave the Opera browser away for free at one point

-Nintendo 1st party games. The best 1st party games in the industry.

-$50(usd) for new games, as opposed to $60 for PS3/360

Last but not least the Virtual Console+WiiWareis the best online games store/service available on a console. The Wii may not be the best console, but it's no worse than the PS3 or 360.

*Sigh* im talking about the past, the boom period was one of a ninendo game desert and a third party graveyard. 50 million sales with a library frankly laughable when put next the the 360, PS3 or PC and you being to understand many gamers anger and fear.

Because support from nintendo never really dried up perhaps? You are basically saying why you don't like the wii. Fine, I get that but being defensive and angry, that's I don't get. Are you people actually jealous of nintendo's success because that's what it sounds like,.

Nintendo support for the console (quality software output) for the wii is better than what was on the GC. You don't make any sense.

The wii fanboyism is strong here, where are the 360 and ps3 fanatics?

But the way people talk and defend the wii so highly, makes one wonder if this wii warlock guy is here.

[QUOTE="Shinobishyguy"]

[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"] Developed by Nintendo? Why is that important? Shouldn't you be more concerned with games published by Nintendo?BoloTheGreat

7yeah you gotta keep into account that nintendo has alot of second party studios under their wing.

Ok then, published by nintendo.

Im not a fan of it because i dont believe the controls immerse you more in games, than next gen. graphics and physics. You can call me a graphics whore blablabla, but better graphics effect gameplay. I mean look at dead rising wii vs. dead rising on the 360.. its not even a contest. And it just angers me seeing as how ive always been such a nintendo fanboy till recently how if the wii had roughly the same tech. as the 360 or ps3, it would get all the same awesome multiplats, with I.R. control, third parties might take it seriously, nintendo still could have done their casual games on a system that was more powerful, so there was no point in making the wii last gen. tech. And if it had awesome online, omg, that would have been so cool, play nintendo classics and new itterations of the franchises, while chatting with all my friends, but no.

The wii fanboyism is strong here, where are the 360 and ps3 fanatics?

But the way people talk and defend the wii so highly, makes one wonder if this wii warlock guy is here.

Its a console that has soccer moms and elderly people getting involved, instead of the real gaming audience.

g0ddyX

When marketing a product, the audience is ANYONE WHO WILL PURCHASE said product. Basically, if you're human and have disposable income, then you're a part of a potential gaming audience. Don't blame Nintendo for reaching out to a more universal market while Sony & MS confine themselves to a TINY segment of the population.

Besides, what makes you think that you are better and therefore deserve more attention then "soccer moms and elderly"? Get over yourself. You are but one of 6 billion people on this planet, and your needs and wants aren't any more important than anyone else's. The market has spoken, and you are clearly just a tiny part of it. If you feel marginalized by the market, then it's only because your thoughts, attitudes, and perceptions are but a mere drop in the ocean. Deal with it.

It's too hardcore for them :P

All kidding aside, I think most people hate the Wii because they're FPS and RPG fans, two genre's that the Wii lacks. Some are also addicted to online play, like one of my friends, and since the Wii's online is..... barely passable, they don't waste their time with it. Some hate it because it's hardware isn't up to date like the other consoles. Some judge it solely on the shovelware and kiddie games. Some hate it because they don't like motion controls (which means bad news for those people, since motion controls are coming to the 360 and PS3). And some hate just because they want either new Nintendo IP's or old ones that have yet to have their time on the Wii. None of these reasons, however, stop me from loving it.

Ah, the Wii is certainly not perfect -- there are plenty of reasons to dislike the Wii; plenty. :P

Ouch! Struck a nerve here. Which is why the truth hurts for some.
Heres more truth, what makes you think i own just a pc, 360, ps3 or a wii when I have them all.

You are in denial. The ps3 and 360 obviously are more gaming material than wii fit.
Theres too much waffle and hate in your message, so just so you know, am one of billions that grew up with nintendo and acknowledge it as a poorer gaming content and console from what it is now.

Its only a matter of time til people realise and times change, technology moves on and the wii hasnt helped as much as to what developers of Crysis have done.

Opinions vs Facts. Stick to your wii and let others stick to their gaming preferences without hiderance.
On a final note, I wonder how old most of the wii lovers are.

Lol, what facts? If anything, M$ have done the most to stop the development of technology by monehatting devs to make xbox 360 exclusive instead of really high-end tech systems.

1. It is overpriced and should only cost $149.99 at the most

2. The hardware is way outdated

3. The motion controls are too jittery and just not as smooth or accurate as it should be

4. The game selection is lame

5. Too many gamecube ports tacked on with motion controls

Your strawman fails. I never even mentioned Wii fit. Trying to make up an argument to argue against just doesn't work. You would do better not to fall into logical fallacies.

On a final note, I wonder how old most of the wii lovers are.

g0ddyX

I wonder the same about you, since you readily adopt a strawman argument.

Motion controls are only okay when they're implemented well, and terrible when the aren't. Unfortunately, the Wii's third-party support is so pathetic that few games outside of Nintendo's own games use it well.

...And again, third party support. Third party support. THIRD PARTY SUPPORT! :O. A console can't do well without them. Look at Nintendo's share tank after the SNES. The Wii's only defied this trend because it appealed to so many casual players who've taken interest in Nintendo's ever-growing line of knock-off medical products.

Only about 5 games that i even want to play on it so it's definently not worth it. I would buy a 360 before I buy a wii.

[QUOTE="tagyhag"][QUOTE="foxhound_fox"]

I was expecting another N64 and Gamecube (in terms of games, both first party and third) with 1:1 revolutionary motion controls that took gaming to an entirely new level... but all I got was a gimmicky system designed to appeal mostly to the casual/non-gamer crowd and has yet to impress me with any single title. Especially after getting a 360.

ActicEdge

You weren't impressed by SMG? :O It wasn't revolutionary, but by God it was good.

He hates the wii and what it offers. Reasoning with hm on this issue is just not worth the effort. (no disrespct to him of course)

Fox, you've got some pretty good opinions on quite a few things, but whenever you talk about the Wii you usually come across as a scorned fanboy who's made the choice to blindly hate the Wii NO MATTER WHAT.
