I dont like the current fusion skill system. Sure, SMT2 and up were a bit too unreliable.

But the current system allows you to pick and choose all 8 skills. Which in turn results in all demons being effectively the same. In previous games, some demons would not learn certain spells (Jack frost probably wont inherit agi). Which meant you would pick demons more than just their resistances.

I thought SMT: Devil Survivor had a good balance.

Something that's been confusing me about Persona is if it's standalone or if it's part of the Shin Megami Tensei universe. Like up until recently, all the Persona games had SMT in their titles... I really need to play more Atlus games lol

Persona used to have SMT in the title, but that was mostly just for marketing purposes in the west.

That however is no longer the case. As Persona 5 had no SMT in the title whatsoever. You could say they all use a very similar ruleset however. To the point of using the same skills and demons.

Looking back, I can't even imagine creating new Personas without being able to pick which moves I wanted passed on. That would annoy the hell out of me.

Yeah, the entire old system was asinine and made no sense, it was grinding for the sake of grinding.

@illmatic87 said:

That already makes so much of a difference. The dungeon checkpoints became so sparse once you got to the Dank Rise dungeon. I would have been fine with the old system if the game doesnt game over if the MC gets KO'd and the rest of the party was up. Did they change that, too?.

Well yeah, the addition of dungeon checkpoints really made all the difference in the world. In addition:

  • They added an ability where other party members or Rise will take the fall for you and deflect a one hit KO attack directed at the MC once per battle
  • They made it so that dying does not reset your progress to the last save point- you just get knocked back to the beginning of the floor

Hmmm? I'm playing Persona 4 Golden right now, you definitely cannot pick and choose all eight skills. You get some pre-determined skills you cannot change, and then 2-6 slots (usually 4) that let you decide what skills to put in.

Codename S.T.E.A.M just had a huge price drop on Amazon go grab it guys. By intelligent systems, one of Nintendo's top developers in my opinion. I buy most of their games.

Yeah, but STEAM is legitimately a horrible game, bro.

Or it was pre-patch, they've apparent updated it a fair bit then, idk, maybe it's better now. But it was terrible back when it launched, I felt so letdown.

Other party members taking the hit existed in Persona 4 PS2 as well. Though, it didnt work for AoE attacks or multiple hit attacks like berserk.

Hmm, so persona 4 golden did it better than SMT4 then. What a mess that was, In that game, all my demons were pretty much the same,

  • Heal
  • Debilitate
  • Luster Candy
  • Multiple Hit attack (for boss fights)
  • AoE Attack (for trash)
  • Energy Drain for spellcasters, passive for physical fighters
  • Passive
  • Passive/Ressurect

If Persona 4 Golden still forces you to keep the basic skills that is infinitely better than SMT4's system.

@Maroxad: Rise deflects all AoE attacks, for the entire party at that.

And yeah, I guess P4G got it better than SMT4 then. You can't change some basic intrinsic skills in that no matter what.

However, P4G also got rid of skill transformation to the best of my knowledge- as well as fusion items. Both are changes I am fine with, as they were needlessly RNG based and obtuse anyway.

@charizard1605: I heard that too. But it seems like it was fixed so might as well enjoy a well made strategy game. It's on people's 2015 most underrated games too. It's gotta have some good qualities.

Oh, it does. It's a lot like XCOM or Valkyria Chronicles, which means it was good conceptually.

Nintendo just somehow fumbled the execution.

Two things I want to say about the new Star Wars movie:

  1. People are going to get fatigued by Star Wars very, very fast. It had a "been there, done that" feel, and we're getting one every year for the next five years.
  2. JJ Abrams proves once again that Darth Maul is probably the only guy that could have ever topped Darth Vader as the Star Wars villain.

  2. Didn't care for Darth Maul since he didn't do all that much but however, when he reappear in Star Wars: Clone Wars CGI series in season 5, he was awesome and it made me like him even more so.

@charizard1605: yeah, a friend was hyped to play it so we got it from Redbox. It does not perform well in split screen and on his 720p TV looked awful with the smaller amount of space. It's so bad

Otherwise the multiplayer just doesn't do it for me, same as it really never did for any prior CoD before minus modes like Gun Game. Zombies was eh, we never made it too far and we were burned out. Not even gonna attempt the campaign.

If you told me I'm never playing that game again I wouldn't be mad at all. Jumped back to Halo 5, so good.

@Blabadon: Man, I specifically had a copy reserved for myself on GB so I could play it when it launched lol. Such a letdown, actually. The sad part is I expected something from CoD this year, it's not like AssCreed, where I've given up on it.

I have to admit i do like the multiplayer, though something about the gunplay feels... off. I've not played Halo 5, but there's just something about the gunplay that's not right after Destiny. Idk how else to put it, but they don't seem to have feedback. Never tried splitscreen, but goodness, the campaign is terrible. Zombies is on point, sure, but the gunplay bothered me too much to go on with that, and I never even got to Nightmare mode, since that would mean actually finishing that campaign.

It was pretty bad, yeah. Idk what happened, man, Black Ops 1 is my favorite CoD game, and like one of my favorite shooters from last gen. How'd we come from that to this?

I think there's three spin-offs then, because Rogue One: A Star Wars Story by Gareth Edwards is coming next year.

It's not a case of messing up (Disney under Bob Iger rarely misfire), it's a case of franchise fatigue. Human beings are just inclined to be fatigued of something when they have too much of it. Food, sex, entertainment, whatever. Disney will be tasting that next year when they're deep in Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As for Darth Maul, it's true he didn't do anything because he didn't even make it to the end of one movie. But when we think of Darth Vader, do we automatically think: "Oh yeah, he's the scariest guy in the universe because he helped blow up a planet with the Death Star!". Nah man, he's scary because he has a weird mask and breathes funny, and he has James Earl Jones' voice.

Darth Maul was set to have iconic characteristics too. He had horns, he tattooed himself black and red, and his voice was smooth as a serpent. He also had a double-bladed lightsaber when we didn't know double-bladed sabers could exist.

This new guy? He has long hair and throws tantrums. I get the direction they're trying to take Kylo Ren in, but he's more set to be a character in a teenage drama than the next guy to take Vader's mantle.

Playing AC Unity and the streamlined parkour is supposed to improve the formula? Except that it doesn't and controls are just not working well with what's happening on screen. I can't even enter a window properly lol they did not test the game?

The only good thing about the parkour is descending finally improved for the better. I much rather they kept Black Flag or Brotherhood style of parkour. I can't even jump unless I'm on a certain part of a platform for me to jump. It's so scripted and simpler (worse) and you have less control than any previous AC game in parkour. Brotherhood or Black Flag are best.

Which is a complete shot in the foot.

It's obvious that part of the human appeal of Kylo Ren was for the twist in the third act. But now that's pretty much gone, what part of him even seems capable of fighting against the good guys? Rey already seems stronger in the Force than he is, and Finn can go toe to toe with him.

Furthermore, if Ren can never top Vader, how is he going to even cope with the new heroes as well as the team that took on Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine and won?

My opinion? They started telling the story at the wrong part. What they really needed to do was tell the story that happened just before The Force Awakens i.e the reason Kylo Ren came to be. That would have kicked off the Light/Dark side struggle with way more emotional impact, and turned Ren into the tragic figure Vader was supposed to be.

I thought SMT: Devil Survivor had a good balance.

Something that's been confusing me about Persona is if it's standalone or if it's part of the Shin Megami Tensei universe. Like up until recently, all the Persona games had SMT in their titles... I really need to play more Atlus games lol

It's its own series that got SMT stuck in its name by Atlus USA because they wanted to cash in on the cult popularity of Nocturne to sell it, plain and simple.

Persona has always been its own franchise, though it still is a part of the larger MegaTen umbrella.

@mems_1224: The sale is pretty lame. I bought I buncha stuff i've not played, or want to play again on PC. Plus a couple games that had like 33% of full price.

1. The only way people are going to get sick of star wars is if Abrams continues on his path of just copy/pasting stuff, I've been a star wars fan for 25 years and I don't plan on stopping, even if Abrams/Disney totally fraks up the license, I'll always be a star wars fan.

2. Darth Maul and Vader are overrated, there's Sith Lords that are just as good if not better than them like Revan (when he was evil), Malak, Nihilus, Darth Talon, Darth Bane, Darth Plagueis

The last thirty seconds of The Force Awakens is what the movie should have started with. The rest was just A New Hope but much less well done. They set up this great premise for a original story in the intro crawl and then waste it.

@Maroxad@charizard1605 Thanks for informing me about that, also just in case it interests either of you possibly (probably not) Trauma Team a Wii game is on the Wii U's VC now. It's an Atlus game, that I haven't played, but have always had an interest in.

Black Ops 3 was some of the least amount of fun I've had in a shooter in a long time.

Agreed, Red Boxed the game as well and the campaign almost put me to sleep, also, that was two levels in lol. Didn't bother with the multiplayer, played that on PC with the Beta and it was so meh.

@FrozenLiquid: that's kind of the whole point of Kylo Ren. He will never top Vader.

Was it just me or was Kylo Ren like a very underwhelming villain? I mean his voice with the mask on sounded out of place and a bit goofy, like a bad dub or something, which in contrast to Darth Vader's voice which fit seamlessly in with the original movies. Also, no offense to Adam Driver, but his face is like the most underwhelming villain face I've ever seen.

Thats the whole point of the villain. He will never live up to Vader no matter what he does.

I suppose that's true, but still felt like it might have been just a mistake. Obviously he doesn't nor will live up to Vader, but still felt a little too awkward for a villain. :P Anyways, I'm interested in what will later come. I liked the ambiguity of a lot of the characters in some ways, may be too similar to the old films in that regard as well, but at least we'll learn more about them in the next movies whereas the prequels were rather outright with a little too much information. Just spoiler blocking just to be sure.

@PikminWorld You are welcome.

Funny how the people you got responses from was the biggest Persona 4 naysayer on the entire forum and the biggest P4 fan (clash of opinions there). Yet despite that, we both more or less worked together to tell you just how much better Persona 4 Golden is than Persona 4 PS2 :P

Im sure they'll tell that story soon enough. I actually really thought Ren was a great, interesting character.

Maybe when she stops being such a Mary Sue, she will be a great character. Until then. I kinda disliked her.

She is kinda what my 5e Bard would have been, if I hadnt taken extreme measures to nerf the living hell out of her.

Awesome, has nothing to do with what I said.
