I can see why though their are tons of Kinect threads and I think this is their way of getting rid of them. Their aren't that many Metroid Other M threads.[QUOTE="sanim02"]
^ Cause apparentely Kinect is more important to gamers than an amazing Metroid game.. That's sad..:(
Nintendo_Ownes7
Yeah Other M didn't have that much traffic like the Reach or the SC2 HYPE thread so Other M had to be the one to go..:(.
I'm sure it'll be back before the game is released though.. As a sticky I mean.
Interesting article from 1UP -- Why We Play Metroid
Haziqonfire
Wow! What a great article! As if my excitement can't build any more.
The only thing that looks worse in Other M compared to the Prime games is the art, but that's mainly because Retro has some amazing artists, their worlds are really well detailed, though Other M doesn't look visually poor by any means, it just won't look as detailed and brilliant as the Prime games did. I don't think any Metroid game will, for years to come.HaziqonfireI don't think it looks as good as the majority of Nintendo games. It still looks like a tech demo to me.

A lot of the stuff looked believable, like it had a function and a history behind it, and had seen years of wear and tear. Other M on the other hand looks pretty plastic-like. The designs for the space marines' armor looks just plain absurd and impractical, particularly their helmets. This isn't the sort of thing that would keep the game from being good, but I think it does show that Retro has much better artists.

Omg I couldn't respectfully disagree more. I think artistically we can see that there are many areas we've gotten only small glimpses of. In the end the Prime games may be better, but that doesn;t mean Other M isn't going to blow us away.
Not to mention that the game looks stunning. Leaps and bounds above a tech demo. It looks like a 360 game without question.

No it doesn't.....not in the least. It looks good technically for a Wii game, but not amazing. Nowhere near a 360 game.
My complaint is mostly with the artstyle. It's totally dry and just has a really weird plastic look. Especially the enemy and marine models.

It doesn't look like a tech demo -- besides, all we've been shown is basically that, demo's. All of which are just a quick mixture of what the game will be. A bit of story element, a bit of the action, a bit of the isolation. Visually it doesn't look like a tech demo. Like I said, we've been spoiled by Retro.

Like I said before, Retro has brilliant artists -- and that's why the Prime games are so good, there are bits of details everywhere in the atmosphere. That's not to say Other M looks poor, visually. It just isn't as rich and detailed as the Prime worlds, at least based on what we've seen so far. But it does remind me an awful lot of Super Metroid, so I'm not complaining.
I think its easier to appretiate it as the third act that tries to give it a fresh spin.Thunderdrone

Huh? But Corruption was the most varied Prime game out of them all ... :?.
Huh #2? We've only seen small spurts of different locales of Other M. You can't really say that considering we don't know, the game isn't out yet ... and of what we've seen still look pretty good.

I'm not convinced the controls are going to work well. You can't even aim unless you go in to turret mode, but then you're stuck in one spot. It's like the controls went back in time to 1994.psychobrew
1. Did you actually play Prime and Echoes? Did you see the variance in the environments? In Prime you went from Magmoor Caverns, to Phendrana Drifts to the Space Pirate Ship. In Echoes you went from Agon Wastes (a desert) to Torvus Bog (a swamp) to Sanctuary Fortress (a sci-fi temple), plus with all the Dark Aether alternatives. In Corruption, all the areas looked very similar, despite being highly detailed. Prime and Echoes did the best of combining Retro's art with Metroid's known variety in areas, Corruption was not. And there were other things than just variety of world that was monotonous in Corruption... the enemies, the bosses, the dialogue... basically everything. Nothing was worth doing like it was in Prime and Echoes... even the fetch quest in Prime had a purpose and wasn't nearly as monotonous as Corruption, as you got to see all those neat areas again.
2. The game is coming out in less than a month... what we've seen might only be a snippet of what is to come, but I can guarantee you it is a very strong representation of the final product. The variety we've seen in the trailers is what we'll be seeing in the game. And my main problem with Other M is the art, not the variety. It looks like its made out of plastic and nothing has that "detail" we've come to expect from Metroid games of years past. Everything is clean and perfect, not dirty, used and "lived-in." Like I said already, it looks like a "game" in the worst of senses.foxhound_fox
1 - like I said, it was the most varied in terms of what to do in any of the prime games -- from having four planets to go to, to the energy cells, to giving your ships abilities to completely changing the beam system compared to the other two games ... I know that you don't like it because it's on the Wii and you use the Wiimote, but that doesn't mean it's "a bad Metroid game".
2 - Nintendo generally likes to with hold much of their games and leave a lot to the surprise -- and like I said, what we've seen has been pretty good so far -- and like I said before, you haven't seen detail, because we've literally seen only two areas ... which like I've also said again before, look good as is. Used and dirty? What? We've seen is Samus inside a a space station, why would it be 'dirty' and 'lived in' :?.
Seems like you're trying hard to find reasons to dislike it, for God knows what reason. Or you just like to nitpick.

1. Ugh... you know, I wish my reputation didn't precede me, because there are some really big misconceptions about what I think on here, and a lot of people don't seem willing to actually learn what I really think. I'm quite surprised you of all people are one of them Haziq. I liked Corruption, it was a solid game, a great shooter (especially for the Wii) but an extreme disappointment compared to the previous two Prime games and a terrible Metroid game... and not because it used the Wiimote and is on the Wii, but because it differed highly from previous games in the trilogy, and didn't stay true to the established Prime formula, but instead went with a simplified, streamlined experience that made it more accessible to the public. Ironically, these are very similar reasons why I think Mass Effect 2 is a bad Mass Effect game, despite being extremely well made and enjoying the adventure.
Next time don't just assume you know what I'm thinking.
2. Space stations are probably going to be the most used and "lived-in" places in the galaxy, given how little maintinence staff there would be to fix things all the time. The fact is, Metroid has always had that styIe, and Other M doesn't fit the established Metroid styIe. Some people like it, some people don't. Just because some people don't like it, doesn't mean they are wrong.
Am I the only one in this thread who is expressing distaste for this game? Or am I the only person you wish to pay attention to so you can attack me for my supposed "Wii hatred?" Is there a private Facebook group or something where Wii fans go to discuss ways of attacking me for my dislike of certain things on the Wii and what Nintendo is doing? Because that wouldn't surprise me to be honest, the way I'm always attacked for having a dissenting opinion about a company that seems to be unable to do wrong in the eyes of their fans. While others who express distaste are usually just ignored or countered, but not nearly as aggressively.
I love every single Metroid game except Hunters, Corruption and Pinball (because I haven't played it yet). I think Hunters is a fantastic DS shooter that creates a very polished control scheme for those types of games on the DS; but I think its an insult to the Metroid name, as they could have used any IP to make the game with, and it seems the Metroid was just tacked on for brand-recognition. I actually liked Corruption for what it was, but find myself torn between that enjoyment of it and the sheer disappointment of it being pale in comparison to Prime and Echoes; it seems Retro just lost their way when making Corruption, and despite making an incredible game, forgot what made Metroid, Metroid.
I'm hard to please when it comes to Metroid, so I remain highly sceptical and pessimistic about Other M for good reason. I have incredibly high expectations, and nothing short of perfection will please me. You are better off than I, because you don't expect another Super Metroid, Prime and Echoes, and you are open to a different type of game that takes Metroid to a different place. I'm the worst kind of fanboy when it comes to Metroid... and I used to be worse.foxhound_fox
I know you're entitled to your opinion - I just don't consider Corruption to be a bad Metroid game. I like that trilogy as a whole, all three games to me are excellent. And since we won't convince each other otherwise, lets just agree to disagree :).
I think Other M looks fine as it is, artistically. I just think we've been spoiled by Retro. I still think it's visually pleasing and noticeably 'Metroid'.
And no, there is no facebook group against you lol.

There was one? The tiebreaker rules is that if the game is a tie, ALL THREE OF US change our sigs, proclaiming ownage to and over the other two (strange, yes), and make threads about the virtues of the other two games. That is, we act as if all three of us won and lost the bet.

That is really weird.
If one of us gets a lower score than the others though(for instance, imagine that Reach gets a 9.5 and SS a 9.0)it´s the only one to be owned, rigth?

[QUOTE="jg4xchamp"]More like a false statement. Haziqonfire
As stated earlier everything about the level design in Prime 3 is excetpionally inferior to what the first 2 did. They are more pocket levels, than one organic game world.jg4xchamp
This is exactly what I liked and I think Zelda SS should aim for. A more level based structure rather than one big whole confusing world.
I.e. 4-5 big areas instead of 1, much like how Prime 3 is.
