It's finally here! The first Super Smash Bros. game in six years, Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS, is releasing tonight! Who all are getting it? What characters will you play with first? Do you want to play online and share your Friend Code? Do you just want to discuss the game? This is the place to do it! Let's try to keep all discussion here instead of inundating the board with Smash Bros. topics, okay?

I just called my Gamestop. They're doing one, they're also going to have a Brawl (ew) tournament while we wait. I think there are certainly going to be midnight launches, but I'd just call ahead to be sure.

At what time is the eshop midnight release? I mean, what time zone are they talking about when they say "midnight"?

Eastern. So if you live in CT, MT, or PT, you should be able to get it 1, 2, or 3 hours ahead of time respectively.

It didn't happen with Pokemon or Mario Kart, both of which are arguably bigger games, so I really doubt it will happen with Smash Bros., to be honest.

Definitely. It works on so many levels- incredibly fun multiplayer, as a museum and tribute to the history of video games (started out as Nintendo only, but it's diversified more and more over time), and literally thousands of hours of gameplay. Look at it this way, Super Smash Bros. Melee was released in 2001, and it is being played to this day.The EVO Melee event was the highest viewed event at EVO of them all. For an 11 year old game. The E3 showing of SSB4 was the most viewed E3 event out of all of them. There's a reason there's such a fanatic community around Smash- it's because, in a dramatic change from tradition, the games actually are as good as the hype makes them out to be.

You must be new here, or you would know that 'Hype Threads' or 'Discussion Threads' for big game releases are a long standing tradition in System Wars.

Excellent. Now raise a ruckus in every single discussion thread for a big game that is ever made. This includes games like Destiny, which had a 500 post+ thread, that was stickied, that you posted in, and had no issues with. Because, as stated before, Hype and Discussion threads for big games are a long standing System Wars tradition. You'd think someone who's been posting since 2003 would know that.

I'm protecting my 3DS from analog slide abuse I keep reading about. I just read a new thread today about some poor joker who busted his on the demo.

I'm buying the Wii U 4 player couch version.

Word is Nintendo World is breaking street date selling it a day early, meaning other retailers can probably get away with doing the same; go hound your local game store maybe they'll hand it off early.

I've resigned myself to breaking my 3DS (and also my hands) because of this game.

Then again, I'm gonna pick up a New 3DS next year anyway, so I'll deal, I guess.

No, I believe not even broken hands can keep people from playing this game, albeit probably quite poorly. It's the fun that counts.

Not getting the 3DS version, waiting for Wii U version.

Smash is competitive enough, to attract a hardcore audience and accessable enough to appeal to casuals. Not to mention the absurd amount of content they come with, endless replay value through so much customization, diverse character roster (Compare megaman to rosalina to little mac to shulk for instance). It also has excellent music, and the SSB4 theme is a testament to that the quality of the OST is still great. It also a brawler, a genre that we dont get many games of, which means it plays very differently from the typical fighter, supporting mechanics and integrating them well in a genre that would never work in a real fighter (such as gameplay entirely based on ring outs, items, knocking foes back, 1v1v1v1s).

In my college we had a party not too long ago, and SSBM was the dominant game, having more than twice the number of players as the second highest attraction and more than 4 times compared to the rest of the attractions.

I wasn't going to double dip, since I had already pre ordered the Wii U Version.

It actually is. There's just so incredibly much content in Smash Bros. and it's pretty much the most fun multiplayer series ever.
