Ever since the Wii has launched, it's been getting a lot of hate from the gaming community. I really fail to understand why. Is it because you are no longer the primary demographic? Is it because, God forbid, you're scared to share you favourite hobby with someone who doesn't know much about video games? Ireally fail to see it. People mock the console for having 'crappy' games, when in actuality, it has many quality titles.

Now, lets remember one thing -- The Wii was never ment to be in direct competition with the PS3 or the 360.

Thats a key point right there and I honestly think its one point people fail to see.

You will never see the big named titles, like GTAIV, Fallout 3, Metal Gear whathaveyou, Half Life, etc on the console. Its a console for open development. Its a console for developers to take risks due to low development costs and at a good chance of making a profit, to avoid a "free radical" situation ;).

So really, I don't see the hate. I can understand not liking the titles on the console, but to call them 'crap' or even worse ' shovelware' when they really aren't, is getting pretty ridiculous.

The console is here for niche games -- games like Little King's Story, No More Heroes, Zack and Wiki, MadWorld, Fragile, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, Etc.

Those are the games that should be used to define the console. The majority of people ignore the quality titles and seem to think all the system is made up of is this:

http://www.gameexpress.com/images/product/original/008888173717F.JPG

Open your eyes and stop being ridiculous. There is a way to go about saying you have no interest in the consoles software versus saying the software is 'crap/shovelware'.

Couldn't agree with the TC more, the Wii gets way too much hate and it shouldn't be. Just cause it doesn't have a powerhouse for graphics behind it and Nintendo has tapped into a market Sony and Microsoft only dream of reaching (just look at the Avatar system for the 360 and Home for the PS3). 2009 is definitely the year the Wii will start to gain ground in terms of games and I know my wallet is going to be hurting between the Wii and the 360 this year.

No one has to buy those, but I mean if someone is gonna make shovelware, it'll probably be for the Wii.

Agreed for the most part. I like that it provides a completely different experience, it would be much worse if it was just another system providing the 360 / PS3 experience.

Still, considering the recent game drought it is understandable why people trash it. 2009 looks to be much better overall.

The wii gets a lot of hate. Not all of it is justified but there are some good arguements among the constant repition of the same annoying ones.

That is true, it does have the largest user base out of the three consoles. However the point I was making about that was that people confuse shovelware with games like Little King's Story.

There's many reasons why I do not like the Wii, and Haziq has probably heard each of them by now -- so, with that said; every system receives a fair and sometimes ludicrous amounts of hate, some well deserved, others, maybe not. From 2005, the Xbox 360 and all the monumental amounts of "Where's the Next-Gen?" screenshots and threads to all the vast RROD threads following in 2006, and 2007. With Sony... well, there's so much crap Sony fans have received that listing it all would give me a headache.

no if they had taken the ps360 route and went HD then their would be more competition and all those shovelware titles would have never made it past the pitch meeting due to the ability of those titles not being able to compete with the mgs4 and halos and oblivions and littlebigplanets of the hd gameing world. plus the wii is for kids and elderly people.

Honnestly, the whole ''we are not in a direct competetion with the PS3 and X360'' is a big bag of BS, why else would they keep comparing themselves with them if they're not even competing them.

Secondly, the Wii does have quality games but sadly other then Okami and Brawl, I fail to see any other quality game on the Wii in 2008. more then 95% of the Wii Library is garbage, I certainly wouldn't want to share Anubis 2andCarnival Games with non-gamers...

"Now, lets remember one thing -- The Wii was never ment to be in direct competition with the PS3 or the 360."

This is the statement that explains why you don't get it.

People do not dislike it because it's popular. It's not because it has a new controller. It's because the line-up is lackluster compared to the other consoles... Why on Earth would you NOT compare it to the other consoles? They offer the same core experience: video games.

People dislike the Wii because it doesn't get big multiplats. It's graphics are last-gen. There are few games that utilize the Wiimote in an innovative way. The online sucks. Nintendo rehashes franchises as bad as Square Enix.

If you don't want it to be compared to other video game consoles, I don't know what to tell you.

Actually I was playing World at War, sorry. I said the Wii isn't in competition with the 360 or PS3, which it isn't. Wii's purpose is to expand the industry and who is classified as a 'gamer', bringing in new people. The PS3 and the 360 are not doing this, they narrowed down their demographic to core users only, with maybe a few casual games here and there to get a few more users. And I said the Wii isn't JUST about the gaming community. Which it is not and you've helped prove that you guys are certainly not willing to let others share your hobby, for some odd reason, you find it offensive, or at least thats the impression you are giving off.

The wii is a VG system is it not? It was released this gen was it not? Why would you say it's not in competition? Sure it's core target is the "non-gamer" but it still is competing for sales with the other two platforms. And you say that the wii isn't just about the gaming community.. So please explain to me what you think about XBL, PC streaming, DLC, NetFlix, Bluray movies ect.. The 360 and PS3 are all in one entertainment boxes that offer alot more bang for your buck than the wii. IF they reach a casual market or not doesn't negate what they offer. And generalizing about posters that disagree with you is very fanboyish.. I owned a wii for a short period and disliked what Nintendo gave me, so I sold it. This is experience talking.. I don't care if Nintendo reaches EVERY gamer out there.. Nintendo/M$/Sony don't pay my bills so I have no interest in what they do outside of offering me a great gaming experience.

I completely agree with you. The Wii is mainly for niche games, which makes it the perfect "secondary" console, although I use it as much as I use my 360. And it makes this gen much more varied than it would otherwise have been.

I guess if you define genuine disappointment as "hate" then yeah, I guess the Wii does get too much hate.

A lot of people, myself included, ran out and bought Wiis early (I got mine at launch) after buying into the enormous hype.I had been to the Nintendo Fusion Tour and there, I was amazed at what that little remote could do and I was excited to buy a Wii at launch. So, as soon as I could reserve one, I got up bright and early and went to my local GameStop. On November 19, 2006, I went to that very same GameStop and picked up my Wii console.

The months passed and I slowly began to lose interest in playing the Wii. Once I'd gotten over the fact that I could swing the remote like a bat to hit a baseball in Wii sports or knock someone unconcious in The Godfather, I found myself going back to the Xbox 360 for the majority of my gaming needs. 2007 was a good year for the Wii but 2008 has been positively barren for the Wii and after getting bored of SSBB (the one game I bought for the system this year) a month or two after I bought it, the Wii has been sitting virtually untouched. The only game I can see myself buying is Mario Kart but from what I've played, Nintendo has done a lot to dumb that game down for casual users. I don't care about sharing my gaming experience with casual gamers because I've been doing that my entire gaming career (you don't honestly believe that the majority of a console's fanbase is comprised of hardcore gamers do you?)

Sadly, 2009 doesn't seem to be any different, as I can't find anything aside from a couple games (Madworld and The Conduit) to get excited for and for a long time now, I've been convinced that my $250 would've been better spent elsewhere, maybe on some games for my Xbox 360 and PS3.

I'm sorry but I'm not going to sugarcoat the fact that the Wii has been a collossal disappointment to me as a gamer. It may be raking in the dough for Nintendo but, as much as I've used it this year, it amounts to little more than an expensive paperweight.

Indeed. Some people forget the huge amount of shovelware the PS2 had. And any decent-good-great Wii title that comes out gets blown off by people on these forums usually.BioShockOwnz
Yeah, but the thing is...the PS2 had a lot of amazing games. Maybe the Wii will in several years but to compare them now...

[QUOTE="Haziqonfire"][QUOTE="insanejedi"]Well a majority of the shovelware being sold is what people are buying 3rd party wise.insanejedi

Proof? Shovelware rarely sells well.

Gameparty 1 million.
Carnival Games 1 million.
Deca Sports 1 million.

Three.

I'm convinced.

So why don't you give us three good third party games that sold more than a million?

Totally agreed. The Wii is just another videogame console, same as the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Even if the Wii doesn't has HD video or audio, it delivers better graphics than 6th generation consoles. Other thing Wii haters must take in consideration is that the Wii is more oriented to non-gamers, so why would you want another PS3 or 360 in the market!? Another thing that favors the Wii is its capability to support more games from other consoles than the PS3 (PSOne games & PS2 games in the earlier versions) or the 360 (doesn't supports yet all Xbox titles). With a Wii, you can use ALL GameCube games; and download N64's, SNES', NES', EVEN SEGA Genesis/Megadrive games!

If I were to make major critics to the developers of Wii games is that they aren't making overall quality develpoments. Many of the Wii-oriented complaints are due to problems with motion controls. There are games that make great use of motion controls (i.e. COD5, Prime 3: Corruption...), and their developers were commited to develop a quality game (either for cash, reputation or respect for traditional gamers). The other problems that many view on the Wii are mostly due to the Wii's orientation. As I analyze it, casual crybaby traditional gamers are the ones that complain mostly about the Wii because they are the public Nintendo isn't currently interested on.

No one's asking for another PS3 or 360, they're asking for the same amount of quality games.

Agreed. Yes it has a lot of shovelware, but just as much as either of itscompetitors.
