The Xbox One Problem

But seriously, this is the hole in PS4 imo. They are now charging for the right to play online that was oh so un noble of MS to do the last 2 gens, but the best games to play online are multiplats that can be played on other consoles or PC. And my Plus offerings suck donkey doo out of its anus. I know its so cool to love indies and arcade games now, but **** off. That's all they give out. At least give me that piece of petrified shit Knack at this point to see if its really that bad because I damn sure am not paying for it.

@hrt_rulz01: Actually, yes, if we were too look at metascores and the many games that should come to Xbone but for one reason or another do not.

To give you an honest answer as an owner of both machines since 2013, the PS4 has a huge advantage on the Japanese game front (games like Star Ocean, Bloodborne, Persona 5, etc) and the indie scene (too many high quality games to count that simply don't release on Xbone). There is like a 300+ game gap, which gives the PS4 owners just more quality games to choose from in general. Yes, they are multiplats, and yes there are stinkers, but that does mean there are better games overall. This is more evident when comparing releases every week, you start seeing a trend in both the Xbone and PS4's game stores and start noticing XYZ quality games simply not releasing on Xbone.

What that means to the end consumer is more high quality games releasing in a variety of genres. More games to choose from overall. The Xbone is not a failure and is a good console, but the library is weaker due to the lack of eastern game support and indie game support. For gamers that went "full digital" and buy high quality games and just have an Xbone, they might not realize the slew of games that keep cranking out on the other console. Ignorance is bliss, but it's all good. Both machines have fun games, but for multiplat gamers, the PS4 is a better choice simply for having more high quality games in more genres than the Xbone as it stands right now.

Most games have been receiving lower scores than their predecessors this gen, you will see the same occurrence on the PS4, even with the fact that it has been really slow to release sequels to games people have been waiting for, which should also be seen as a problem.

I don't believe the PS4 currently has a higher rated exclusive game than its predecessors at the moment, and like what UberHaxorUnova1 said the Xbox really does have stronger presence when looking at some of the best retail games available in each genre.

While I agree the Xbox One hasn't had its masterpiece, I think there is a solid collection of games offered that could attract a lot of people to the console. Forza Horizon/Motorsport, Gears: Ultimate, Halo: MCC, Halo 5, Ori, Quantam Break, Rare Replay, and Sunset Overdrive. These games exist and have been given high praise from those who played them.

I guess the problem you're referring to is none of these are must-play games, which I'd agree with. Certainly a lot of people don't seem to be biting. Still, if you own an Xbox One, then I think there's plenty to be happy about.

Sometimes I wonder what would've happened if Bungie had stayed with MS and made Destiny exclusive to Xbox. It's a game that is passionately crapped on by many gamers (myself included), but it's unarguably a system seller.

This deserves one of the biggest WTFs I've ever given.

One point at metacritic is actually quite a feat if you dig into what it takes to get a single point at metacritic...I'm not sure what your point is since my post is about accuracy and is straight to the point. I suppose you never considered what it takes to get a point at metacritic, but rest assured 343 and many other developers have gone on record about their metacritic ambitions.

I was also clear, my post was also directed to Charizard, because accuracy is something Char might value as the topic creator (moreso than those seeking damage control) and furthermore Char is someone who writes for about videogames at another website so he would also value accuracy for that reason. It's not like I was trolling or being rude. I was straight up.

If it doesn't matter to Char, it's fine, I don't care. I simply posted an accurate post to the TC. While I understand you are just messing about, I also know that Halo is a sore spot for you at times (even though 343 is a relatively new studio), so this is riding the line between messing about and possible personal feelings.

Either way, Halo 5 has been at 84/100 for a long time so if he is going to post the score, he probably would like to post the right score. If you post something that is untrue and some one takes the time to correct your mistake with a link, why attack the person offering education? Especially if they do it without trolling. Eh. Infamous 2nd Son was on PS4, and Infamous First Light was just DLC/Expansion which are typically reviewed lower. I agree with your other examples (KZ, LBP, etc), except in comparing the DLC to the actual AAA standalone retail products.

@cainetao11: Baonnetta 2 was a huge commercial flop. Likely sold less than 500k.

The ps4 isn't much better, it's so called system defining exclusive is a souls game, other souls games can be played on the other consoles and PC, so even though bloodbourne is well recived and only on ps4, it's not unique and cannot be compared to system defining exclusives from last generation.

When mass effect was first released, the only place to play that experience was the 360, however you can get a very similar experience to bloodbourne by playing other souls games.

I'm actually a huge souls fan, and do want to play bloodbourne, so when I get a ps4 it will be for the sole purpose of bloodbourne.

Both consoles have been low output this generation, and fanboy stuff aside both consoles are quite similar in every measure.

Has anyone ever heard of the popularity of Halo? Yes, it's not Bungie anymore. We all know that but Halo is still what people think about for Xbox, this gen I prefer Sunset Overdrive, last gen I preferred Fable but the sales of Halo 5 speak for themselves.

I haven't played Ryse, so can't say anything 'bout that. I gave TO a chance, got it really cheap. I was hyped for the graphics, they disappointed. I didn't mind the black borders, but the presentation was really blurry and REALLY monotone. Also the facial animations weren't that great either. The actual setting is interesting indeed, but that alone couldn't keep me hooked. The gameplay was really basic and all I've already seen before in Gears of War and the like. I couldn't finish the game, managed to sell it for more than I bought it, which was nice. The score GS gave it was purely justified IMO.

I've finished all the InFamous games, they were one of the best games on PS3 and SS didn't disappoint. Solid gameplay, awesome graphics, good enough plot and the game world isn't empty mind you. New powers were nice also.

TO almost feels like an anti-game to me, had more fun with Beyond Two Souls which is basically just a QTE fest.

It's a know fact that Sony's exclusives are rated higher than any other exclusives. Not that they deserved to be most of the time but because of bias reviewers like Sony the best of all the console makers. Like sites like Sonyspot ... I mean Gamespot.

Funny that most I know who don't visit ultra bias places like SW and have both X1 and PS Bore, just like my son and his friends, choose to play much more on the X1 and it's games not found on the other this gen consoles, weird, I know. lol Perhaps it's just all in Your mind? :P

Yeah if you like FPS, Racing, Adventure, Action, Indie, and early access games there is only one place to play all of them! :P

So if you're going to judge these games you mentioned char, then you better have played them, because judging these games by using sales figures and Metacritic scores is just poor form.

It's funny you mention Bloodborne, at last count (that i saw) BB had 2 million sold, even Driveclub has sold that many, and I think Knack has sold over 2 million also. That goes to show that gamers will play what they like, only fanboys on forums like this play Metacritic.

I don't have any problems with mine, tons of games I really enjoy and I play regularly.

Those are all system sellers because they have a high metacritic score, I'm sure Bayonetta 2 is the reason Wii U is flying of the shelves and most PS4 gamers don't know what Bloodborne is, Persona 4 saved the Vita, Stardew Valley has the same metacritic score as Halo 5, Zelda ALBW's is awesome but the 3DS real system seller is Pokemon

Metacritic has now become as relevant as Grammys and it's mostly a corporate tool now. There is that. Second thing is, standards have changed. What would've passed as a 9/10 title last gen isn't perceived as such anymore...

It flop cause it was a Wii U exclusive and Bayonetta 2 paid the price because of that. I actually enjoy it, I just wish Nintendo could have hype it more so back then.

Um, technically it should have sold more being a Wii U exclusive given the fact that there is almost zero 3rd party support thus no 3rd party games to purchase.

Oh here comes the sad notion that more people prefer xbox live,dude is 2016 more people play on PSN than on xbox live,so chances are more of my friends are on PS4 than on xbox one,but that is not the reason why people just buy certain console.

The PS4 has 4 games 90 or better which are on PS4 that are not on xbox one The last of us being the biggest one,but not only that count the amount of 80 games on both again the PS4 comes on top with more games that have between 89 and 80 that are not on XBO.

People can't freaking see Quantum Break and being ready to account it as a + for the XBO and not do the same with Salt and Sanctuary or MLB which has 85% right now on meta,so you see the PS4 has close to 200 more games many which are score between 89 and 80 which count but that for some odd reason here don't count because only games on xbox one and PC count games on PS4 and other platforms don't.

Dude close to 200 more games if you consider 200 more games,is doing just as bad as the xbox then you are the problem and you are not being honest what people see is both platforms are not killing it game wise but this one has some 200 games not on this other one,and has some very high rated games on it as well while this other platform doesn't see to get something brilliant or great.

@tormentos: The pictures you have provided confuse me. Why does Rayman Legends have a higher score on the XB1? Why does Diablo III have a higher score on the PS4? Where is Shovel Knight on the XB1 list? Those are not demanding games so I doubt more points went to one version for better visuals. Also, 3 of the games on the PS4 are last gen titles.

Truth is, this gen isn't known for high scoring exclusives. The PS4 only has Bloodborne as a new title, but there is already talks of of PS4 2.0 lol.

Okay, we know how you feel. Fact is I have been and probably will continue to enjoy the X1 for the games they have put out. I don't play scores or numbers so all that means nothing to me. People base their enjoyment of games too much on the next man's or woman's opinion and I respect everyone's opinion on whatever game but I am not forced to agree with you if I feel the game is good. I was listening to the so called review scores for games like The Order and Destiny which got low to average reviews but when I got around to actually playing those games for myself, I enjoy them a lot. I put hours and hours of time in Destiny and I thought the length of The Order would bother me but I enjoyed it for what it was. The X1 started out horrible, bad vision and bad direction but they seem to have found a way to sell more software and thus turns things around for themselves. I don't know what the future holds for them and none of us really does but as long as they keep giving us good to great games, and yes I think it does have great games then it doesn't have a problem with me at all.

I LOVE QB so far and disagree with what the fanboys have to say about it. But to be honest its not the next Halo or Gears we were hoping for... That next gen MUST HAVE game. Again QB is amazing to me, but its not Halo when it came out on the OG Xbox or Gears when it first appeared on the 360 back in 2007. Or Mass Effect(when MS and Bioware had their little contract).

I'm going to say the samething I said in another thread weeks back and that is MS barely has a first party when it comes to developers, but worse their studios have ZERO talent. Yet they are closing more studios. The Coalition while I love what they did with Gears UE is still largely unproven...

On the other hand while I was mad that they closed Lionhead, because Fable use to be my favorite Xbox franchise and I still hoped that they would make a GOOD Fable game, I now see why MS closed that trash ass studio for good. For long Lionhead has promised(lied) that they would give us an amazing Fable game, but instead each Fable game became WORSE!!! Fable 1 was their LAST amazing game to me. Fable 2 was "okay" and lackluster compared to the first. Fable 3 was just the nail in the coffin for the series... And just showed how freaking lazy Lionhead has become. Thats what Lionhead has become lazy. All they had to do was create a Fable game like the first one but improved thats all, but that was too much to ask.

And I know this is very ruthless, but if I were Sony I would be hesitate about hiring their former Lionhead employees. They bring nothing to the table...

Also I am glad MS closed down all its Kinect studios. That at least shows us the Kinect is officially dead and wont be coming back. :)

And like I said again its worst due to the fact that MS first party LACKS talent. At least Sony has Santa Monica, Sucker Punch and the well known Naughty Dogs. But it still gets worse...MS studios not only lacks talent, but they don't know how to "multitask" or make other games. MS seems to make their studios specifically for ONE game. 343 is made only to make Halo. Coalition is only made to make Gears. Turn10 is only made to make Forza. Its sad.

At least Naughty Dog showed us they can make MORE than just Uncharted, they made something that arguable TOPPED Uncharted and that game is Last of Us. Guerrilla Games decided that they are not going to only stick to making Killzone and so they are trying something new and that is HORIZON.

MS studios simply do not do this... Which seems why they are going to third party devs to make their first party games. But they BADLY need a MOST HAVE NEXT GEN game this gen that is a NEW IP. Maybe it'll be Recore or Scalebound. We'll have to see...

I do hope we see a Quantum Break 2 tho...

PS: Op an 82 for Gears UE you CANT use that... Gears was just a remaster and not a main game. We'll see with Gears 4.

As bad as the Xbox One is, I would still take it and its games over the PS4. I didn't really like Demon's Souls, and I doubt I'd like Bloodborne. What's left after that? Killzone? At least Uncharted comes out soon.

The only problem I see is today's gamers basing their enjoyment of games on the opinions and numbers someone else gives them, that's the problem.

That has been going on for well over a decade now, even before aggregate sites came to fruition.

It's dumb then and dumb now but this whole "console war" fanboy love that going on now is nothing like it was back then. It's reached new heights to a point where people rather a game fail so they can say things like what's going on in here just have a game be good and enjoy it.

Also PS4 owners shouldn't be talking about "having n games". The only good retail game PS4 had last year was Bloodborne and Until Dawn, The Order was a let down. In 2014 we only really had was Infamous second Son and I thought SS Overdrive was much more fun and if we wanna use MC like the OP is doing SS OD got a higher score and then Drive Club. And then in 2013 compared to the X1 we only had Killzone and Knack as retail games, Killzone I don't even care for and bought the Metal Gear demo over it for PS4.
