There is no need for 3 systems!

We have been in this generation for about 3 years now, and its pretty much established(outside of system wars) that everyone has there own taste in games. Now because this, there are many companies that advertise to diffrent markets and bring diffrent types games and or accessories to the table to help sell their product.

Now when we look at what this generation has to offer: there is the Wii which markets family fun and interaction for entertainment. Millions have fallen in love with the Wii(if you havent there is no need to share your opinion). Then on the otherside of the spectrum there is the PS3 and 360, which offer highend graphics and a more"mature"(As many here like to call it) gaming experience. But is there really a need for 3? in years past, or as far as I can remember, there was always 2 spotlight consoles and then PC. When I started gaming, it was Sega vs Nintendo, then Sony and Nintendo(sega bumped to the shadows) and then MS, Sony Nintendo and Sega(though that died fast) and then now. I hated last gen(as well as this gen) for creating so many systems because Im one of those gamers that wants the best from all worlds...but has a small budget.

Now while I hate to single out Microsoft and the 360, is there really a need? Heres the part where I get ready for the nonsensical faboy flame based attacks...please before you start attacking here me out. The one system out of all 3 which has yet to capture my attention is the Xbox 360, now while I know it all boils down to taste I have my reasons. While this isnt the systems falt but the companies, all exclusive games that debut on the 360 either end up on another system(more so PS3 then Wii) or the PC(typically window based systems...sorry MAC users). Now with that being said, is there really a need for it in the gaming world?

Again before you flame me, I know the 360 is fun...BUT(and that is a big but lol) most of its hit games are on or heading to other systems:

Gears
BioShock
Dead Rising
Mass Effect

and based on previous games...
Halo and Fable

...so what need is there for one? I personally am not going to get one because Im on a budget and I have other resources but what is your reason for getting one? (who knows I might strike gold somewhere!!)

I see where you're coming from- the 360 is indeed great but I suppose it is the least........what's the word I'm looking for?.......necessary of the bunch. Especially if you include the PC as a system. But I like having 3 consoles to choose from, I don't really see anything wrong with it.

think of it like this, If it was just say the wii and the PS3 dont you think Sony would have had a major price cut to compete with wii sales as apposed to a small cut to compete with MS now?

Yes there is. I like three. Sure it is expensive but still. I like my PS3 in way for hardware, movies and MSG4 than the 360 and Wii. I love my Wii for parties. I love my 360 for Online. I like 3 consolesSuliman-Uchia

Link to Dead Rising coming to another system, currently it is only for the 360 and haven't heard anything about it coming to the PC or PS3. It is nearly a two year old game, (you might be thinking of Lost Planet, which wasn't that major of a lost), also Bioshock was already on the PC.

For Halo 3, I don't think MS would bring it over. They made Halo 2 PC to push Vista. Maybe when the new Windows OS comes out MS will bring out Halo 3.

I don't think I can disagree with any of your points, they are all well conceived. However, you forget something sort of major. A lot of people don't care to game on PC's. All my friends are unaware of what PC gaming offers, they think it is only for super geeky kids (not that I do, just a stereotype I've noticed). On the other hand, they love the simplicity of just buying a console and playing with friends online, which the 360 offers. Not everyone has the money or time to build a PC, so that is why the 360 has a market to supply. Then there are kids like me who love playing with their friends who own 360's of course.

4 consoles ? if developer have too produce for 4 consoles the quality goes down for at least 3 consoles and porting games becomes a new trend ! hm.. sound familiar too the 360,ps3 :)

Yeah there is that stereotype, but you would be surprised, there are many closeted PC gamers out there, who really wont just come out and say Im a PC gamer(cause of said sterotype)...but they are out there and there are alot of them. As for the highend PC thing, thats another big misconception...alot of people believe you need to dump so much money into building a gaming PC, but if your a smart shopper and look around you can build a nice one for about the same price of PS3. I think the reason PC get less recognition to the publics eye because not many companies really seems to advertise for PC and PC accessories...they make it so you HAVE to meet the stereotype to get at least some decent info about their product

no...there was the "I can keep going part"... also I never said exclusives, in my post I was implying:Exclusives, console exclusives or just multiplat releases...there arent that many games that are on the 360 that arent on the PS3 and or the PC
