[QUOTE="HuusAsking"]The PSU will likely be underpowered for a modern rig, the DVD drive's laser is probably getting spotty (best to upgrade to a BluRay--they're about $100 now), and you'll probably need Windows 7 going in, since devs are more interested in it and it has more mass-market uptake.HuusAsking

You're just assuming everythin aren't you?

Why would the PSU be underpowerd?

DVD drive laser geting spotty... best to upgrade blu ray... hahahhah euhhh what!!!!?!?!?!?!?

Oh, so now you even need windows 7....why is that?

Wow, common... get some better arguments.

This is from firsthand experience. Most PSU's a few years back were in the 400W range...and didn't come with PCIe power connectors (because PCIe was in its infancy). Nowadays, it's generally best practice to get around 600W with the connectors. DVD drives only last so long. I myself had to change out two or three...because the laser started becoming picky about the discs it would read. And if you've been reading up on PC development, you're reading that developers are more upbeat about DirectX 11 (because of Windows 7's expected increased uptake) than they were about DirectX 10, meaning the bar is likely to be raised for OS requirements.

First of all what year are you talking about? Because the only time frame you mentionned was 2006 and there was plenty of 600w PSU with PCI-E power adaptors.

DVD drive last pretty long... first hand experience as you say. And, guess what they're pretty cheap today. But I guess I need a blu-ray, right?

If I was reading the news? You might want to try that on yourself... because Vista is compatible Dx11.

i have a psu from 04 that has a pcie connector not to mention you dont even need one since theres such thing as an adapter.

my dvd drive from 2001 is still kicking in my machine yet my ps2 drive has failed multiple times, funny. and theyre excited about dx11 because dx10 is finally getting established and dx11 is building off of it. dx10 never really caught on because people are whiny morons who consider anything the uses more resources to be bad.

To each his own, but if this is true, then why do developers use most of their resources focusing on development for consoles first? Now I know that all games aren't built on consoles first, but a good plenty were released on consoles first, then ported to the pc.I prefer to use my laptops for web browsing and 360/PS3 for gaming, andif they incorporate web browsing in the next wave of consoles, it would seem useless to have a pc, unless they prohibit the amount of freedom you have, as far as downloading and such. But with the threat of viruses and spyware, I would rather keep my console for just gaming anyways. PC > PS3/360 for web browsing and PS3/360 >PC for gaming.

There's no good reason for not owning a gaming rig.

What if we dont like PC gaming. :o

Your choice, but also your loss. I was playing first person shooters while console gamers were playing the NES... Just do like me. Get a gaming PC and all of the consoles.

Now that's better. If you can afford all , then get all, but I don't think a lot of people can. I now have to buy my son a somewhat powerful gaming PC, since he has taking a liking to PC games. My other son still prefers the 360, while the other is having problems playing some of his games on my laptop, since it only has 2gb ram and a low end celeron processor. I also think I prefer gaming on consoles is simply because of how I started gaming. I began gaming on a Sega Master System, then year by year, I graduated to the next console. During that time I remember how expensive PCs were, and the only people I knew that had them, were rich geeks who played D & D all day. So that's how I associated PC gaming, wrong as it may be, it's just the way I progressed in gaming. Who knows, once I get my son his PS3/360 killer, I may migrate to playing some PC games, but for now I'll stick to consoles.

I prefer PC gaming for many reasons... but it's also a working tool.
