"I don't think we really care whether used game buyers are upset because new game buyers get everything", THQ's creative director for wrestling titles told Gamasutra. "So if used game buyers are upset they don't get the online feature set I don't really have much sympathy for them".

"That's a little blunt but we hope it doesn't disappoint people. We hope people understand that when the game's bought used we get cheated".

Link.

LOL.

"THQ's Cory Ledesma has delivered a blunt message to consumers buying used copies of his company's games: they're cheating the publisher out of money."

I can agree with that.

I understand their point of view, but the used game market is a good thing for gamers.

Punishing people who buy the game new to combat used game sales is also cheating. That includes VIP codes because sharing games with friends has always been part of the gaming tradition.

Or they could just release games so good that no one wants to part with their copies. Used game sale problem solved.

You could create the most perfect game ever and likely people would still part with it. There are way too many factors other than "make a good game".

Personal opinion. It's impossible for someone to make a game so good that no one will sell it after they bought it. Beside my point is that statement is some-what true. They don't get any money when people buy use games.

Well maybe if they didn't charge $60 for every freaking game used games wouldn't be as much a problem with them. I swear, only the games industry can get away with this BS. If you bought a car used, would the original car manufacturer get money? No they wouldn't, because someone else already purchased the car. This industry just annoys the crap out of me, and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

I'm goign to propose a far fetched idea here. what if..what if these game devs and publishers actually added replaability to their games, so people wouldn't want to trade them in? I know its crazy right?

People sell games for many reasons. That not going to stop the people selling games they bought. It may help but not stop it.

I think people who buy games from the bargain bin are also cheaters because they don't pay a fair price for the game. You should only get all content if you pay full price.

I don't see the outrage, all this has done is made me know to never buy any THQ games since I can't lend them out. Big whoop, any game I would have bought from them is now a lost sale and they managed to piss people off. Frankly if used games is cheating then I wanna be a cheater.

I know, but when they complain a 4 hour Sp with lackluster MP game dosn't sell well they blame pirates, when it sells medicore they blame used game buyers. I'm just curious why they should get money from an game thats alreadyy been bought?

Nonetheless, that has to be their target. Their target has to be to convince people to hold on to their copies of the game. The problem lies in the fact that someone who obviously did pay the retailer/publisher for the game no longer sees the value in holding on to it anymore. Were it not for this previous circumstance, a used game sale -- which is not so much a sale, but a transfer -- couldn't have occurred. I still don't see where the cheating is involved, but that's just me.

THQ are idiots anyway, most of their games are crap and the few good studios they do own eg relic they poorly fund and rush their games out. I wish they would just collapse already so a better publisher eg blizzard could buy out their good studios.

Let say I go shopping for Metro 2033. I see a new game and a used game. I buy the used game. There 60$ they could have made. Yes someone may buy it eventually but sometime games just don't sell. The used game I bought could have save the publisher some money if I bought it as new.

However I will agree that people just like to point fingers when their games don't sell. They just want to blame something.

I'm fine with incentives for purchasing games new. If they mean that much to me, I'll buy it new. If not, I'll buy it used. Its not that complicated.

I see their point, and actually, i'm not against the solution of buying the multiplayer feature online if you have a used game, hopefully, will make used games cheaper and it will gave some profits to developers, profits that they actually deserve to beging with.

selling ANYTHING used does not make money for the original seller. I dont see how it is any of THQ's business. If i want to sell a game i own , i will. If want to buy a used game from someone i will.

I don't understand this concept of entitlement peopel and devs think they have to games. Why exactly is used games not legitimate when virtually used everything else is considered fine?

I seldom play games online, so I would love to have the used price for games drop faster. I wouldn't mind playing MW2 for the campaign, but I'm not going to play it online. I played and enjoyed MW1, but only because it came with my video card. I liked the single player, but I doubt I would've bought it.

I never say is not legitimate or something, but as with any, they made the product, so they deserve the profit, as easy as that.

but with publishers like EA around, this is a good thing. now if we could only buy the games directly from the developer without having to pay publishers, at a reasonable price ($40 for a new game), then almost everyone will buy games brand new.

Hey now, the people who sell used games to Gamestop and such are getting cheated too.

I got 30 cents for a $60 game. I was very disappointed. Saw the same game on their shelf a few days later going for, like, $30 used. :\

You know, they could actually sell this notion to me, but the problem is, like idiots, they take the most offensive approach to trying. The copyright law is a two way street. They get some protections, we get things like first sale doctrine. When they flagrantly spit on that agreement, I have no sympathy for them. Now, if they wanted to sell it to me they could say something more along the lines of this: "the multiplayer portion of our games is a continued service, using our resources such as our servers. Since we keep incurring cost on this portion of the game, we feel it is only fair that we also get some benefit from it as well in terms of sales. This is not like selling a book or a CD where there is no continued cost..." and would be fairly convincing, at least something to consider. But, do they do something smart like this? No. They act in public like self centered jerks.
