Half-Life 2. Because it didn't just feel like a first-person shooter only. It's really hard to explain. I don't know if I ever played a first-person shooter before where I felt like I wasn't playing an FPS. I know it sounds silly.Elann2008

Nah. Not much variety to it, and the shooting mechanics could have been better (the AI is what makes the combat great, while the shooting itself is just average)

But it's up there.

The best FPS ever made would be a Half-Life game mixed with F.E.A.R's combat. That combo would be so sexy.FrozenLiquid

Half-Life 2 perfected everything Fear lacked. Well, maybe not the variety.

In terms of shooting it definitely is. No FPS to this day can match FEARs intense gunplay and action.

The catagory is just to broad .... it covers a lot. and that is shown by what people are talking about. I loved many FPS for many reasons. while others were okay and too many were boaring but good in other ways.

• cover
• aim / effect on target
• pulling the trigger /recoil
• movement
• AI
• weapons
• sound effects
• reload bullets/ amo clip
• lots more

then there are other things like

• annomation
• story
• seenery
• atmisphere
• Lot more

and bad things like

• glitiches
• ghosting
• ETC

The best games have more good than bad. The better games have more of what makes it great. but no game has it all.

i would of said quake 1 but u cant crouch in quake 1 in quake 2 finally added crouch.

One of the best one's for sure.

Cryostasis, Half-Life 2, BioShock and Halo CE rank among the best for me.

This game scared the crap out of me the first time I played it. I remember in the first couple of hours, going down a dark air vent, my light started flickering and something started coming at me from down the shaft. Two seconds later and it was gone.
