I don't believe there is a single "best" of any genre, just best of the genre.

FEAR is definitely one of the best FPSs out there. FEAR's AI alone still outmatches many modern FPSs.

I have to go with the Halo series first,second the CoD series,and the third Battlefield 3.

Yes..in "the real world" we go by numbers and polls that we "in general" use as our facts. You may not like or care for how Halo is looked at in the gaming world,but that doesnt change facts. Im not crazy about Gone With The Wind,but its a classic that is always looked at as one of the best of the best. Regardless if I like it or not..so what are we to do?

FEAR is pretty damn good, but I prefer the first Far Cry. My only gripe is that FC is arguably too long of a game, but that goes to show how used to 10 hour games we are, as opposed to 15-20 hours.

Now what I haven't played in a LONG time is the first Half Life. I've only completed it once, though I've beaten Opposing Force a couple of times (M249 kick back rocks!).

I miss the days of PC and single player-centric FPSs. I kind of wish I had a 4:3 monitor to play them on too :D
