No, if they upgrade. Or do you think that every PC gamer will stay with their 5 year old PC forever and ever ? According to Steam stats, there are already some 5M gamers who own PCs that beat next gen consoles hardware. While next gen consoles will barely sell 3M units al launch. In the end, there will be more Pc gamers with high end PC than next gen consolites at the start of next gen.

Do you really think that the majority of PC gamers know how to open up their PC and switch the parts around? People on laptops and most people just having general purpose PC's will not upgrade their PC parts because they don't need to and they don't even know how to. They can buy a new PC, but not every person gaming on PC plays games at resolutions above 1080p with mods and everything maxed out. When people go to buy computers, they go to best buy or futureshop, and they do NOT sell 670's there. They sell cheaper parts for bigger prices, there are laptops costing over $1000 that have i5's and integrated GPU's. I've seen computers that sell for $2000 that include the same hardware on PS4 (albeit with a much better CPU). Futureshop and bestbuy make big money like this, your average consumer doesn't buy an ibuypower rig for best performance for a lower price.
So far, the consoles are selling a ton, PS4 pre-order sales ALONE are over 1 million, that's not even launch day and first year. I can imagine Xbox One will get there too. In the first year, the consoles will have sold more than the 5 million PC users with better specs.
You confuse one thing. Average PC gamer doesn´t need to game above 1080p with mods and everything maxed out in order to game better than on consoles. He just needs to game above 720p with settings average or above average. Done.
I know that not all PC gamers can built their own PCs. That´s why there are pre-builts. And not every PC gamer goes to wallmart to buy their PC. Many are quite acquanted with other manufacturers who does build gaming PC.
And no, next gen consoles won´t sell more than 3M at launch.
x360 sold only 1m by year's end.
And ps 3 had quite poor sales at launch.
If we even amke a few adjustments for next gen, I don´t see neither of consoles selling more than 3M day one.
I didn't say 3 million day one, I said over 3 million in combined sales year one which is very much doable. Also, I thought we were comparing PS4/Xbox One to PC's, not PS3/360. In the case of the next gen consoles, PC gamers would definitely need the 1080p with mods and everything maxed out to have the one up against next gen consoles. I also find it hard to believe that most PC sales do not come from futureshop, bestbuy, walmart, or any such retailers. They're the go-to stores for local technology and tech advice, companies like msi or sites like ibuypower are hardly advertised to the common consumer.
