Their just saying they just wanna make game expierences. Why should they invest tons of money and learn the PS3 architecture because of Sony's design moves?

They are a small dev (in terms of people working on products) so its understandable, but theres no reason as to why they cant support the PS3 given the money they make

yeah, there's one main reason - SONY ARROGANCE. if you followed this from the beginning that's exactly what this is about. Valve cant be ****** to solve the issues involved with the PS3 considering Sony's closed door development policy for the PS3. simple stuff. it's not like they couldn't do it - they just don't want to because Sony played it incredibly arrogant this gen.

Yeah becuase ND created HL, HL2, Portal, TF2 and L4D all of which have recived numerous GOTY awards, especially HL2 and HL which is rearged by some as the greatest game of this decade and HL of the last. Oh wait, they didn't. That was Valve. Valve also created CSS and CS, still 2 of the most popular competative shooters. I think if anyone should be teaching it should be VALVE.

ND created all those games you mentioned above for the PLAYSTATION3? really

Orange Box is on PS3, and it was bugged. Why would you want a bugged game? Just get the PC version.

Valve have made flat out better games, i think they have earned the right to not make games for a system they see as being unduly difficult to work with.

Any of the 1st party Sony devs will probably never achieve what Valve has in their lifetime. If you check their history and what they've done for the gaming business. No way in hell.

right...and Nuaghty Dog was formed yesterday

All the people griping in here might as well just state that they really have no knowledge of Valve themselves. Their dev team is small, does not recieve nearly as much funding as many 1st party devs do. They do not have the resources, and certainly not the time, to make a different version of every game they have for a console with hardware that they are not comfortable with in terms of the 360 and PC. It is that simple. Maybe if they were a massive game-designing powerhouse like Naughty Dog and received millions from their parent company, you could complain. But if you had any grip on the actual situation of Valve, you'd understand.

How many amazing games has Sony Santa Monica produced? Two, God of War I, and God of War II. Kinetica wasn't really that great. Warhawk was by Insomniac. Lets look at Valve Half Life, Half Life 2, Half Life Episode 1, Half Life Episode 2, Portal, Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Day of Defeat, etc.

...Did you seriously just compare them to a 1st party Sony dev team that receives massive amounts of funding from aforementioned company? Seriously?

I did, yes. Your reading comprehension skills are impressive. Money is irrelevant in this discussion. Money doesn't make people better at making games. It's about the knowledge/talent of those working on the platform. What you're essentially implying is that Sony/Naughty Dog has more talented software engineers. Bear in mind, I'm not talking about game design; that, like money, is irrelevant in this discussion. Naughty Dog has put together perhaps the most technically impressive console game ever made in under two years. Granted, they've had the engine--the one they built from scratch--for quite some time, but that doesn't diminish the fact that they don't seem to be having any problems working within the Playstation 3 architecture like your boys at Valve seems to be having. If Valve is such a remarkable game development company, why are they not investing in people who understand how to do these things. Hence my first post. Thanks. Have a great day.

yah, I was under the impression that everyone with a PS3 had gaming-grade PC's, so there's no need for a 360.

Exactly, the opposite to this is the lemmings can't afford another gaming system because they are poor college frat boys who spent all their money on buying an xbox live subscriptions.

They have a legit complaint. They simply dont want to put in the extra effort and time.

I still think that their excuse is weak since many devs manage the PS3, but it's still a legit excuse. They can do whatever they like, Sony's fault for making their PS3 complex

If they don't want to waste time on trying to figure out the baffling architecture of the PS3 doesn't mean they're lazy, it just means they aren't a fan of wasting time. Valve has usually been good about releasing quality titles in succession. To call them lazy would be ignorant at best, the devs that have actually had the will to ATTEMPT to figure out the ordeal that is the PS3 were usually funded by Sony themselves, so we can expect a lot of this in the future.

MGS4 wasn't founded by Sony. I'm sure other good games havent been either. I can see you point though.

Awesome, Valve don't expect my money to grace your wallets anytime soon.

You have a PC, why does this news bother you?

It bothers me that I always gave them credit for being some of the best devs around. But at this point in time with the ps3 on the market and they are still unwilling to learn something new? I just think they don't want to be imbarrassed that they can't learn something new. Geez even small no name devs are getting decent games out to the ps3 now. I mean heck can they even make a new game engine? Rumors are that HL3 is just updated Source engine, after how many years. Your right I do own a pc, and also a ps3. I think they need to realise this, believe it or not there is a bunch of us.

Kashiwaba

even kojima harped on the PS3. read your stuff. he blamed it for MGS4 falling short of his vision, said he was given conflicting information about what was possible / what the reality was. not that hard to find the interview. after that why don't you read up on the other dozen or more developers that have harped on the PS3 re: memory bottlenecks, overly complicated hardware not meant for gaming (actually designed for medical imaging first and foremost), slow BRD access times, having to make redundent data copies on BRD to compensate, etc, etc, etc. it's all out there, either ignore it and think they're just lazy, or get used to the FACT that the PS3 is unnecessarily complex with little reward to counter-balance the extra effort. 3rd place, smallest install base, some of the worst software sales, and an arrogant executive staff for all countries they operate in. record losses this year, largest in 15+ years... and to this date, despite Tretton saying 'only possible on PS3' we've YET TO SEE a SINGLE game that shows us something that can't be done on the 360.

I guess so, but thats mainly due to MSs good thinking, they launched early, took all the crap, launched with better launch titles, had a whole year to build a userbase and library, technology that is powerful but also cost-effective and etc. Sonys arrogance got the better of them as they thought the 360 would be another Dreamcast, but i also think that Sony are now finally out of the woods and the only thing they need to worry about is getting past this recession.

Valve can do w/e they want. They want to make good games and coding on the PC/Xbox 360 is the best way for them to do so. I just didn't like when Gabe bashed the PS3 calling it a complete failure and then you see games like Uncharted 2 utilizing w/e power the PS3 has.

Another lazy Devs just admit it Fanboys Kojima didnt say its complicated, none of Capcom devs said its complicated , Sony 1st party are making the best games on PS3 this generation without saying its complicated , Sega didnt say its complicated and the list is very long so its obvious they are just too lazy.

Dead-Memories

Sony 1st party devs have 4+ years to work with, and internal funding from Sony, Valve doesn't want to waste their time like that, they more productive things to do.

Capcom , Konami , Sega, Namco , EA games and rockstat do they spend 4+ years with internal funding too admit it lazy ass devs.

It's official Valve just doesnt have the resources, knowledge or money it takes to be a true developer.

whitetiger3521

Yeah, because creating more than one contender for best game ever doesn't put you in the category of true developer, it puts you in the category of a skilled developer.

Ya thats right.. Because a true developer can make a game for ANY console

That's not true at all, have you ever stopped to think that developing for Sony truly is hard work? It's not that they CAN'T do it, it's that they Haven't done it and they dont want to waste their time trying.

[QUOTE="-Pred-Alien-"]They are a small dev (in terms of people working on products) so its understandable, but theres no reason as to why they cant support the PS3 given the money they make

-Pred-Alien-

yeah, there's one main reason - SONY ARROGANCE. if you followed this from the beginning that's exactly what this is about. Valve cant be ****** to solve the issues involved with the PS3 considering Sony's closed door development policy for the PS3. simple stuff. it's not like they couldn't do it - they just don't want to because Sony played it incredibly arrogant this gen.

I guess so, but thats mainly due to MSs good thinking, they launched early, took all the crap, launched with better launch titles, had a whole year to build a userbase and library, technology that is powerful but also cost-effective and etc. Sonys arrogance got the better of them as they thought the 360 would be another Dreamcast, but i also think that Sony are now finally out of the woods and the only thing they need to worry about is getting past this recession.

i guess Gabe just takes things personally and holds a grudge *shrugs* i can't say i'd act like he does, but i certainly understand it.

You're so right! Who cares that they've made what many PC gamers consider to be the best games ever, who cares that they redefined the FPS genre.

They're obviously not a true developer for not wanting to develop on the god-like machine that is the PS3.

Valve has always hated the PS3. They got some stick up their ass when it comes to learning different processors.

sSubZerOo
Yet they love the Wii?

They just said it looked interesting, that was two years ago and no sign of a title or anything, whereas the PS3 had at least Orange Box

even kojima harped on the PS3. read your stuff. he blamed it for MGS4 falling short of his vision, said he was given conflicting information about what was possible / what the reality was. not that hard to find the interview. after that why don't you read up on the other dozen or more developers that have harped on the PS3 re: memory bottlenecks, overly complicated hardware not meant for gaming (actually designed for medical imaging first and foremost), slow BRD access times, having to make redundent data copies on BRD to compensate, etc, etc, etc. it's all out there, either ignore it and think they're just lazy, or get used to the FACT that the PS3 is unnecessarily complex with little reward to counter-balance the extra effort. 3rd place, smallest install base, some of the worst software sales, and an arrogant executive staff for all countries they operate in. record losses this year, largest in 15+ years...

OUCH, this post just owned Sony.

I love Valve. They're an excellent company with many quality games an calling them "lazy" is way off base. I'm a little surprised that they won't give the PS3 another try, but they do have a long history of working with Microsoft operating systems, and many of their console efforts have met with great success thanks to it being an easier platform to work with, as well as the quality of the Live!service.

You can bet they're also following the money. If the PS3 was in second or first place in the console wars, they miht be singing a different tune. But as it is they just don't want to mess with a more difficult architecture, smaller install base, and an online service that is still "up and coming." Don't get me wrong, I like PSN, but it still isn't nearly as efficient as Live or PC online.

Well, all the PS3 guys have high end PCs, so this really isn't a problem.

AAllxxjjnn
High end? Maybe when 360 was released they need high end. Mid end is about all you need to beat the consoles now.

[QUOTE="Verge_6"][QUOTE="Jared2720"][QUOTE="Verge_6"] ...Did you seriously just compare them to a 1st party Sony dev team that receives massive amounts of funding from aforementioned company? Seriously?

. Money is irrelevant in this discussion.

Good lord, I am in awe...

Is that really how you respond to people with whom you're engaging in a debate? In any case, you've obviously missed my point. If money is so important, and Valve has such, as you claim, limited resources, why are they consistently one of the most acclaimed game development companies in the world? Is it magic? Rhetorical. Don't bother. I wouldn't want to leave you in awe again.

i'm not saying the PS3 is crap, it's actually very very similar to the 360 in terms of what it can do - i'm just trying to explain why the lazy dev comment is nonsense. you have to weight the costs against the rewards - and the extra effort just doesn't make sense for some developers.

what makes more sense? valve dedicating a small team to learning the PS3 in & out, taking them away from other projects - or taking a pass to send a signal to Sony? if I was in Gabe's position i'd absolutely outsource the work instead of taking my staff away. Sony wanted to be different this gen, now they're learning the cost of doing so with less 3rd party support,

*looks at replies* im speechless honestly and a bit sad......people are actually comparing sony`s developers to valve`s caliber? only in SW Dante2710
This is an example of why the PS3 community tends to be a tincy bit looked down upon, they jump on anyone who does anything against their world view. This is Vale people FREAKING VALVE! you know, HL, CS, CSS, HL, TF2, Portal, HL2; episodes, L4D. Has almost single-handedly revolutionised DD on the PC. Gives epic support to modders, even inviting team dystopia to their HQ for a week to use their stuff free of charge? Any of this ringing a bell?

[QUOTE="Richymisiak"][QUOTE="After_Math"] How many amazing games has Sony Santa Monica produced? Two, God of War I, and God of War II. Kinetica wasn't really that great. Warhawk was by Insomniac. Lets look at Valve Half Life, Half Life 2, Half Life Episode 1, Half Life Episode 2, Portal, Counter-Strike, Left 4 Dead, Team Fortress 2, Day of Defeat, etc.

you're all forgetting, ND make crash bandicoot... CRASH MOTHERF'ING BANDICOOT! !!!

Naughtydog has been my favorite console developer for the last three generations. I own every Crash Bandicoot they made, and every Jak and Daxter they made. (Crash 1 through CTR, and Jak and Daxter to Jak X). Naughtydog isn't SCE's Santa Monica Stuidio. They are set in Santa Monica, but they don't make games with Santa Monica Studios.

Ya they dont want to make a crappy game and make themselves look bad  They dont got the skillz to make a PS3 game or they would be developing a badass game right now for it. But instead they wanna be little cry babies and say it's too complicated.
