Valve, your thoughts on why they hate the PS3?

Except Gabe didn't insult PS3. He made a case for why developing for that platform isn't viable within his business model. But sonyfanboys of course had to take it personally and interpret it as an insult. They just can't handle criticism, because anything not putting the PS3 on a golden pedestal is clearly an "attack", so they use this interpretation to justify lashing back with insults of their own.

I would have used the "two wrongs don't make a right" counter argument, but like I said, Gabe didn't insult the PS3. He just made his case for why its not a viable option for his business. The sony fans are just bitter and make it out to be worse than it is.

He is too much of a lemming to recognize that. He hides from the obvious.

Sony are now considering being more developer friendly with the next Playstation by not using what they have in the PS3 since it's giving developers like Valve problems. These criticisms by Valve and others will just make future products better.

They should, for their sake (unlike what they did for the PS2 & the PS3). Especially when development costs are rising next gen. Because if not, then 3rd party developers will most likely say "screw it" & will only be developing games for the Wii HD & the X-Box 720.

Plus if there's no cell in the PS4, then that would eliminate BC with all PS3 games.

Regardless of their statements, that still does not make them an average or lazy developer. ;)

so therefore why are Cows so worked up about having an 'average' and 'lazy' developer not make games for the PS3 and why not encourage the developers of those other games you listed to make lots of games for the PS3 then?

If not I'm pretty sure the PS3's exclusives will sell the PS3...right?

I mean those big stellar graphics king games like KZ2, UC2 should be selling way into the millions for what they are worth to PS3 owners.

I have no idea what people see on L4D and other Valve titles.The only thing I like about them is Steam.

Eh, I gotta go with the fact that the Playstation 3 is a huge pain in the ass to program with. It can be done (look at Uncharted 1&2, MGS 4, Killzone 2, etc) , but I don't think they care enough to take the time or money to develop for it. Why would they, when they have healthy sales on the 360 as a primarily PC-oriented developer? After all, the 360 IS a miniature PC.

Not wanting to spend the effort to make a PS3 port is fine. But to go as far as to say the "PS3 is a waste of everyones time" and the rest of the stupid comments that Gabe said were undeserved. If you don't like the system and don't want to program for it, fine, but you don't have to be such an ass about it.

It's the main reason I hate Valve. Gabe could've been civilized about it, but no he has to go out of his way to try and convince everyone that's it's a "waste of their time".

... that and the fact that they STILL use the ancient/ugly Source engine + HL2 sucks. The episodes are great, but HL2 itself is extremely boring. Just thinking of the vehicle sections makes me want to vomit.

sony tried to make the ps3 to much like a pc. and pc gamersisvalve`s main target. also i think sony shunned them with late ps3 game dev kits.

they don't want to and don't want to spend the time. It really isn't that hard. They enjoy making pc games, and xbox 360 architect is similar to pc architect so they therefore make xbox 360 games.

I see no point of valve even trying to develop for ps3, they can simply create a pc game and port to 360 easily. Also if valve wanted to create a graphically outstanding game it would be made on PC not ps3. So sales wise its better for valve to stick to 360 and PC and graphical innovation wise its better for them to stick to PC.

Gabe Newell's infamous hate quote only came less than a year after the release of PS3, and considering what a disaster the beginning and how hard it is to develop for PS3 I guess you can forgive him for saying that. Just as well, while they just let EA do porting when they saw fit, Doug Lombardi VP of Marketing for Valve has since stated that they are interested in developing for the console and are looking to hire talented PS3 programmers for future projects.

However he stated, "Until we have the ability to get a PS3 team together, until we find the people who want to come to Valve or who are at Valve who want to work on that, I don't really see us moving to that platform".

So if Sony gets people to mend their relationship or Valve just happens to get some people who are ready to dev for it, its highly possible Valve will no longer have any issues with PS3 and will likely make games for them as well as PC and 360.
