We as in sheep or we as in hermits? But I guess that doesn't really matter. You ignore multiplats because they can be played on other platforms. But does that negate their existence? Sure, some games have last gen versions, but that is being phased out or shown to have some serious effects (Shadows of Mordor being a prime example). Multiplats are a good reason to own any console really, since multiplats are big sellers. Just because you want the better looking multiplat doesn't mean you would have a gaming PC. The average consumer does not want a gaming PC. Even people on here, who game a lot more than the average consumer, may not want a gaming PC.
Somehow, it seems that SW has a hard time separating the reality of SW with the actual real-world marketplace.
We as in non-crazy logical people. Aside from multiplats the only thing the PS4 has is Infamous. If you want to play multiplats you probably have a 360 or PS3 that can get the job done. If your argument is wanting better multiplats a PC is the answer. Until the Ps4 has good games that you can't get anywhere else there is no point in owning one.
I think I just said all this, but it looks like I have to repeat myself. Some games have last gen versions, but they are being phased out or have some serious effects to them (Shadow of Mordors doesn't even have the Nemesis System on the last gen consoles). You have games like Batman Arkham Knight that ditched last gen, a big multiplat. AC Unity ditched last gen. You can only hold onto the last gen for so long. For the apparently "non-crazy logical people", it seems that you can't compute that people want to upgrade from last gen, since there are games that are not coming out to last gen. And, there are people who want a better experience, but don't want to get into PC gaming for a myriad of reasons (cost, technical barrier, upgrading, troubleshooting, etc.)
And a Ps4 still wouldn't be the answer? Even with your weird stipulations that people want to upgrade, they want a better but not the best experience and they don't want a PC then the answer would be to get an Xbox One because it at least has some halfway decent exclusives. I mean you can keep moving the goal posts and adding silly restrictions about what some theoretical person might want, but at the end of the day the PS4 is just not appealing at all.
What stipulations? Moving what goal posts? What restrictions? Are you so narrow minded that you can't see why people would want the PS4, or even what this thread is asking about? Saying that the average consumer, hell, even the average gamer doesn't want to jump into PC gaming is by no means making a stipulation or a restriction or moving the goal posts, it's just reality. Saying that the last gen consoles are being phased out and that multiplats are not coming to them is not a stipulation, it's reality. You think people wanting to upgrade to the newest generation of consoles is a weird stipulation? It happens every generation.
First question of the thread asks why the PS4 is selling: "With the recent announcement that Resogun is going to the Playstation Vita as well, I have a serious, genuine question right now- why exactly is this console selling? What does it have to warrant the sales?"
So yeah, we are looking at the consumers, or as you put it, "theoretical person". We're looking at who is buying the console, and why. Somehow, this is really hard for you to understand. Throughout all your rambling, you say the PS4 isn't appealing. If it isn't appealing to you, I don't think anyone really cares. But if you're saying that the PS4 isn't appealing in general, then you're just mistaken since it is doing extremely well. You continue to fail in seeing some incredibly obvious and simple points here, but I'll break it down for you:
- Price: PS4 was cheaper than the Xbone for several months, and we've seen the Xbone go from $500 all the way down to $350 in less than a year to boost its sales.
- Hype: Astronomically high for PS4, especially with Xbone's early blunders and PR missteps.
- Advertising: Sony has stepped up to the advertising plate and trying much, much harder to sell their console than they did with the PS3
- Perception: The PS4 has better multiplats than the Xbone, and that holds weight for some people.
- Brand: It's the PS brand, enough said.
