Whats the better deal? A PS3 and 360 for 600, or a 600 Gaming PC?

[QUOTE="Hahadouken"][QUOTE="millerlight89"] That is 100% false.lundy86_4

No it's not. I have a rig, I PC game, I'm not perpetuating myths to sandbag PC gaming. $600 on a PC from an actual store is going to be a piece of crap. It's enough to upgrade an existing rig, but $600 from scratch it a piece of crap PC. Everyone on the internet who makes a "build a top class PC for $600!" goes and finds the absolute lowest of the low deals on NewEgg, then tallies up like 4 pieces of gear. No PSU, no case, no keyboard and mouse (because EVERYONE already owns a GOOD KB/M combo right? LOL) no OS, no wireless adapter, no hard drive, no peripherals, no DVD drive... If it was a $1200 PC then it would make the decision much more difficult.

Every PC i've seen posted includes everything for the tower. How could they leave out PSU, HDD etc and expect it to work.

Stopo using hyperbole as in this case, it just doesn't work.

It's not hyperbole, you can't build a "top of the line rig" for $600 and this BS propaganda only exists on the internet. I guarantee all these people claiming "$600 PC" spent considerably more than that on their own rigs. I don't know a single PC gamer (and I know PLENTY with serious rigs, I work in an office FULL of gamers) that try and purport this myth that it's somehow cheap and affordable. I smell a $50 PSU coming, everyone knows how well those things run high-end equipment.

I stopped reading.

And you're proud? I speak the truth and it hurts so much you can't finish reading it? Okay let's play this legit. Build me a high-end PC for $600 and include a power supply, a case, keyboard, mouse, wifi adapter, Operating System, DVD drive, hard drive, motherboard, RAM, GPU and CPU. I'll be waiting. ;) Enough of this BS propaganda of posting the lowest price you can find on the internet then only totaling up a CPU/GPU/Mobo like it's all you need to max Crysis.

for once... I agree with you...

I hate it when Hermits pretend like PC gaming is so cheap?

I love gaming, on PC or consoles.... but PC gaming is not cheap, not even close.... unless you enjoy low - med settings.

   Well first of all, that would be like asking someone to get you a TV stand, speakers and TV for a console, you're literally including things people on System Wars already have, JUST BY BEING ON THE INTERNET. Second of all, most of those components are under $50 each, can you go from not having anything at all, to being able to play a PC game for $600? No. But you can't do that with a console just as much.

I said you were using hyperbole on what people left out. I know you can't build a top of the line PC for $600, obviously. You can get solid $50 PSU's, it's the branding that's more important. Most things from PC Power & Cooling, Antect, OCZ should be just fine.

Note I live in the UK, so what you can get for dollars isn't very familiar to me.

However I cannot help but note that you are already trying to rig this challenge, the red area being the problem.

You are the one who initiated this challenge by calling a $600 PC crap, but now I noticed you are trying to pad out the cost by throwing words like "top of the line rig" and earlier "like it's all you need to max Crysis".

In case you haven't noticed the topic is comparing a $600 PC to 360 and PS3, when did this become about building a top of the line Crysis maxing rig? You are the one who brought this mentality into this thread, not someone else.

Why do you assume people already have it? It's nothing like including a TV stand. Those listed items are necessary to run a PC. A TV stand is not necessary to run a console. Maybe I browse SW from my iPhone. If the only way you can bring in a PC under $600 is to ASSUME I ALREADY OWN CERTAIN COMPONENTS, then the argument is incredibly misleading, isn't it? If you pay "$50 each" for those components, they are garbage. Find a $50 PSU that belongs in a top-end rig. I'm starting to think some of you don't even play on PCs. You admit yourself that $600 isn't enough to build a whole PC, so why bring it up at all? If the whole straw-man argument is based on everyone borrowing mom's old Dell and cannibalizing it for parts first, why even make it? Anyway the thread is about which you would choose, and for $600 I wouldn't even attempt to build a PC. Amazing how irate some herms get when you tell the truth about prices.

Lian Li Case: $100

Lian Li Top Cover: $30

Lian Li CD Cover: $15

Prolimatech CPU Cooler: $65

4 Noctua Fans: $100

Ok so we're splitting hairs now, neat. I simply said that a $600 PC is crap, and in my opinion, it is. My benchmark for building a new rig is being able to max out all the newest games. Why buy something that's already been trumped so I can play old games or compromise on settings? So if the challenge is "a compromised, decent PC that will play games on medium settings" versus BOTH A PS3 AND AN XBOX 360, then yeah, I still think it's a pretty easy choice.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103704$100 Quad Core Processor

Total comes to $679 for a very good gaming PC without shipping costs which could add some price to it. I think this is all of the parts that are needed other than a monitor and KB/M (but maybe i missed one). I am also pretty sure these are all compatible, but i could be wrong but there are many other options for the same price. The 9800gt is around the quality of my 8800gts which can max most games at 1680x1050, and the Processor is very good and quad core.

it will cost $600 for two consoles, then add one $60 game for each and you are well over $720. That gives you the ability to buy many cheap (but still good) PC games, and the entire PC, for around the price of the consoles. But you will also be getting many other features such as internet, music, free games and other things such as mods and more community support.

I really don't see the point in getting a console when they are so limited. And in just a couple of years we will be getting new consoles so your current ones will be obsolete. A PC never becomes obsolete. There will always be games that have low graphics settings so you can run theme, even on a really old system.

anyone will do that to make themselves look better, I suppose.

but I'm on console, and I tend to agree that STEAM deals and the free, quality mods over time can keep any PC gamer busy. 10 bucks less on retail games is always a plus (except MW2:?)

not saying that this makes it superior, but in the long run, I think it can eventually be a better situation. But, PC gaming is just so varied compared to console, it's pretty difficult to compare when it comes to the money.

ah well, I'll shutup, I'm ignorant on the subject, compared to everyone else.

Just tryin to give people an idea of a $600 build. Last I checked a 4850 handled games pretty well.

most people assume that the person asking for a PC has a monitor, keyboard, mouse, internet and other things like that, thats why they give them the stuff that goes in the case.

add another 100 for an OS and thats 700 bucks. i am pretty sure people here can do better however

Noctua fans are the quietest fans available.

The replacment top cover comes with a hold for a 140mm fan, I didn't want my computer running hot. The cd cover is essential, the case looks fugly without it.

Now you're just trolling, you are spinning his unneeded costs as being required; and playing it as being ownage against PC.

To think at one time you actually tried to set yourself up as being neutral...

 Yeah I'm such a huge non-neutral fanboy that I am here trolling others who don't agree with me and calling them trolls/fanboys.. .oh wait, that isn't me, is it? I own every platform on discussion here. Do you? I haven't called anyone a troll or a fanboy. Have you? I haven't propagated a bunch of nonsense about building a PC but leaving out vital components under the misleading guise that "people already own it", have I? Yes, I am so detestable that I even called your "neutrality" into question, didn't I?.

And you need a i7 to game on PC because? I wouldn't know what is required of a i7; because I spent a fraction of the cost on a quad core with all the performance I will need to game until next generation. Why is that the people who argue against the price of a PC have a habit of wasting money of top of the range hardware for a system they apparently don't even like?

I had take Ps3 and Wii, 360 is not worth it. If you don't want Wii just save the money for games or something else.

Don't tell me your running the oem cooler on your i7 920?

If you are, run cinebench and realtemp and post your temps :D

GioVela2010

No I have water cooling, still all you need is the stock cooler. Nice try though.

You only need a stock cooler, yet you went with water cooling...Makes sense..

I'd love to see your temperatures while running cinebench.

I went with water cooling because I OC to 4.2ghz.

BUT... people already own CPU coolers and after-market fans! No fair including it! Just kidding, obviously. Thanks for being honest.

Yes, I am so detestable that I even called your "neutrality" into question, didn't I?.

why is bad to assume that people already have monitors, keyboards, mice, and internet access things? how else would we know unless somebody said so?

Why did you spend so much money on stuff that isn't relevant to your performance and functionality? $100 on fans? $65 on a CPU cooler?

lundy86_4

You'd have to be stupid to get an i7 and not get a CPU Cooler.

Yes, the best of the best CPU coolers are expensive.

Noctua fans are the quietest fans available.

If you're not looking to overclock, you don't need the aftermarket fan. Stock intel ones will be fine at stock speeds.

Why would you get an i7 and not overclock? I have a slight overclock @ 3.4Ghz, and my temps reach about 63c while under load.

Screen cap your realtemp temps, CPU-Z, Cinebench, and Gamespot running in the background.

Great you're one of those, people who use ownership of multiple platforms as a shield against criticism. I have ownership of a PS3; but I'm not about to say I'm not biased against it. People have also posted different setup's, not that you will take note.

Sadly moderators here protect people like you while punnishing those that retaliate against them, so there isn't much more to day.

I didn't, I had to buy a $300 dollar monitor, a $60 dollar keyboard, and a $60 dollar gaming mouse.

I also needed a desk for everything which was another $700 dollars.

Ps3pc

Whats wrong with you tc

With a pc you get 99.9% of the xbox 360's library and 100% of the ps3's

For 300$ more you get the best deal

Im sorry but the xbox is not a good console. Get the Best console.

Ps3 has better graphics than anything the pc will put out but the pc has THE SIMS 3.

Im a PC gamer and i own an xbox 360. I would honestly go for the 2 consoles jsut because of the games coming out or the systems. My 1000 dollar rig can run crysis on high with a godd frame rate but im not so sure about a 600 dollar pc. If you really need a computer, as in using it more for jsut gaming then i would honestly jsut build the pc, but your not building that good of a PC. If its just for gaming purposes then i would just get the two consoles.

Hmm...are you sure you really have this setup you've been flaunting the past few days? I mean, you posted SOMEONE ELSES setup as yours (as far as I'm concerned. You never calirfied it was actually yours), and the only proof you've provided is a video that may not even be yours.

Due to the fact that an i7 at stock speeds would be more than enough juice for the majority of people. I personally would overclock, but assuming everyone needs to is pure fallacy. The fact remains that stock i7 would outperform the vast majority of CPU's on the market.

People like me? All I did was say a $600 rig is a piece of crap. In my opinion it is, I wouldn't waste my time on a $600 rig, would you? Would most serious PC gamers? You respond by outright trolling me several times and calling me names, and I'm supposed to be a jerk? Whatever man, you take this way too seriously if you need to resort to calling names when someone says PC gaming is expensive. Since when is PC gaming being expensive even a bad thing that people need to damage control? PC gaming has always been the elite, for people who could afford it. Suddenly I'm a troll with an agenda for pointing out that $600 is not that much in the realm of PC gaming.

Where does this come from, this widely-accepted (among PC gamers only) assumption that "most people asking for a PC already own one"?

It's straight-up misleading picking and choosing which components you include in a price, especially since every one of you knows you wouldn't have been satisfied with the barebones crap.

If you guys want to do that, call it "UPGRADE YOUR RIG FOR $600!" because it isn't "building a rig" if you assume people already own half the components.
