Consoles could die and no one would notice. Think about it we got cameras because they are good at taking pictures, video cameras because they are good at taking videos. On the other hand we got consoles for what? Everything a console can do a PC could do it 10 times better. Contrary to that a dedicated camera takes better pictures than a mobile phone. So what are consoles good for?

MK-Professor

Except no one wants to deal with the diaper rash known as PC maintenance and up keep.

Consoles play all the games made for them throughout the gen.

The same cannot be said for PC Gaming, you have to upgrade hardware and software almost frequently.

Also everyone notices consoles because they get so much more games.

No $500 Rig can max games for a very long time without upgrading one of its component. And then again any technical superiority that PC's hold over consoles doesn't matter to a casual gamer. Only people in this Forum are being pedantic when it comes to textures and resolution.

NerubianWeaver

Who said that $500 Rig could max games? What I said is that a $500 Rig can play multiplats with better graphics than consoles.

Can a $500 rig play games graphically like Uncharted 2? And even running games like Metro, Just cause 2 at medium will stutter. It's advisable to upgrade in that current situation.

Consoles run games like that: 1280x720 or 1024x600, 25-30fps, 0xAA or 2xAA, medium setting etc.
So a $500 Rig can defiantly play with better graphics than that.

4) You have to spend $500-800 or even more just to buy a Gaming PC. It's not cheap, it's still expensive than consoles. Besides you have to upgrade it just to play latest games at a playable framerate. The initial investment on PC is very expensive, average consumers can't suddenly withdraw $600-1000 just to buy a PC. While the prices of the consoles are less than $500.

5) It's not easy. You have to build a PC which an average consumer won't do just to play games. They just want to play games by inserting disc then play. And if you recommend buying a prebuilt; it's 2-3x more expensive than consoles. Consoles are still much more convenient than PC

NerubianWeaver

Wrong, you do not need to buy a "gaming Pc" to game, If you or your family has bought a Pc in the last 3 years chances are you only need to spend $60 to turn that family/multimedia Pc into a gaming Pc that can out do the consoles. Also its as easy as you make it with Pc gaming, theirs a program called STEAM which does everything for you and you dont even have to have a disc or go the store to buy a game. So are consoles that more convenient ? It all depends on how you think.

Not every Family has a family computer :| And lol at $60 you can't even buy a decent GPU with that let alone with other parts MOBO + CPU, PSU

$60 after rebate  with a gpu thats multiple times better then a console gpu.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125288&cm_re=9800gt-_-14-125-288-_-Product Also every Pc has a cpu, memory and motherboard.

How about the PSU then? Most Prebuilt PCs come with a low power PSU. Would it run the 9800 GT? Also the CPU. Some Family computers are equipped with Pentium IV/Celeron. I'm sure you have to upgrade it to run games like Just Cause 2 and Crysis.

Today you can buy a Pc gpu for your computer Thats $60 thats nearly 4x faster with 2x the memory then console's gpu to allow higher detail and resolutions. Also the fact that a 3 year old 8800Gt says Hello there and is still playing games on high setttings or maxing them out while playing at a higher resolutions then the consoles can do.

 I'm pretty sure you're lying. Can it run Crysis, Just cause 2, Metro, STALKER, and other future games at maximum setting at high resolution? I don't think so ;) Besides, not only you have to upgrade the GPU, you also have to upgrade PSU, CPU or even replace your MOBO.

As far as multiplats go,it will play at a similar quality of the consoles and generally better.

And no,it would hold a lot more than 6 months. Just to put you in perspective,I bougth my rig over a year ago and it can still hold it´s own maxing everything that comes out now and will play most games on high for at least the next two years.

And even when the time comes when I no longer can max out most games,I will still get better performance and visuals on multiplats compared to their console counterparts.

So you build your rig a year ago without upgrading? So i have an Xbox 360 that was purchase from the year 2005. It can play games like Gears of War 2, Forza 3, and Alan Wake. Find me a gaming PC that was built on 2005 that can still play modern games games without upgrading any part at a high resolution. In fact PC is still expensive at that time :|

This shows what you know... enough with the console denial. with a 8800GT you can run Crysis on high at 1440x900, Metro 2033 on high at 1440x900, and STALKER maxed out at 1680x1050. Even with Metro 2033 also a multiplat game the console versions were running on low textures (below Pc's low settings) at 1280x720. Metro 2033 on consoles were using 1mb texture files Pc low settings uses 2mb normal uses 4, and high uses 6mb textures.

Concoles are good for killing the almost dead pc games market in all of it's weak glory :P

P.S. The Old Republic, Diablo 3 and Starcraft 2 notwithstanding. That being said they should just be on consoles as well anyway. You know....the real gaming machines.

Did you even look at the $60 after rebate card? a 9800GT is a revision of the 8800GT. So lets see, family Pc which you didnt spend any money on, when you can spend under $120 the cost of two new games can create that family Pc into a gaming system. And what does a console cost again $200+? and when they came out $500+

If all your family have their own laptop then Pc gaming is a very limited option and money could have spent in a better way. But most families get a main Pc for everyone to use.

All i can say is that a heroic effort is necessary if we don't want PC gaming to die. Unfortunately, the most i can about PC gaming's condition is a petition targeting Square-Enix to make Final Fantasy games for the PC that aren't MMORPGs.

I like the fact that I can buy a powerful system (at launch) for a good price, and everything I'll need to run the latest games well for 6+ years is there from the start. I like the big exclusives, I like the fact I can play it lying down on a sofa. I like the ease of use and integration of the platform

sorry every 6 months. still less than ill ever upgrade my ps3 to play games at the best settings

Yeah, well I usually upgrade every 2-3 years, long enough to play games on high, at much higher resolutions, much crisper images, much higher quality graphics than the PS3/360, I don't play console games for graphics, I have never played a console game that wow'd me with its graphics, unless it was artistic like Braid or Okami, I don't care about graphics that much, so I'm cool with playing a lot of console games. That said, best settings is a joke, when best settings is low-medium on PC, it doesn't mean much. Accept console graphics are always poor in comparison to PC and move on.

Nothing can be "pretty much identical" unless its an incredibly poorly made game, even games from 8-10 years ago can support like over 1080p resolutions with 8x AA, 16x AF etc, and this stuff will make games look a lot better by default. Its just not something that can be compared, consoles do not have this as a feature.

This, THIS is what should have been asked from the very beginning? What is it about a faction of PC gamers that makes them feel its some kind of crusade to convert console gamers to their ideology??

Great. Another 'PC gamers are the superior master species' post. Ironic that in how they try to present themselves as so much more advanced and sophisticated then console gamers, they actually prove just the opposite.

Yep, and your just as bad.

[QUOTE="TintedEyes"]because people care more about consoles than pclundy86_4

Hmm. Okay how about popularity? Or quantity of software perhaps? Maybe overwhelmingly superior industry, media and developer support. I feel like any of those answers should suffice ;)

ALso as far as sales go, I believe in the upper tiers of all video game software sales that the Sims (and possibly WoW) is the only PC game/gaming series represented among an absolute onslaught of console games ranging over the last 20 years and several generations. Not to mention looking at PC and laptop hardware sales could never ever ever be indicitive solely of PC "gamers" and consumers buying their units for the sole purpose or the major purpose of gaming. In fact I'd wager most of the planet (by a very large margin) buys a PC with zero gaming intentions in mind. So I don't know how the sales defense could really properly be made.

EDIT: Please keep in mind that while I am primarily a console gamer, that I am not agaist PC gaming and bear no grudge. I will play Old Republic and Diablo III to death. Just my objective opinion when weighing the facts. The facts just happen to weigh in favor of consoles.

Okay how about popularity? See above genius... Or quantity of software perhaps Pc has more exclusive high rated games than all consoles combined... Maybe overwhelmingly superior industry What does that mean? PCs advance and evolve as time goes by, consoles remain the same and get peripherals and overpriced hard drives,..

[QUOTE="110million"] Yeah, well I usually upgrade every 2-3 years, long enough to play games on high, at much higher resolutions, much crisper images, much higher quality graphics than the PS3/360, I don't play console games for graphics, I have never played a console game that wow'd me with its graphics, unless it was artistic like Braid or Okami, I don't care about graphics that much, so I'm cool with playing a lot of console games. That said, best settings is a joke, when best settings is low-medium on PC, it doesn't mean much. Accept console graphics are always poor in comparison to PC and move on. washd123

my ps3 is 4 years old and has games like uncharted 2 and killzone 2 both that have better graphics than the almighty crysis which cannot even run on a 4 year old pc especially not one worth $400

The 8800GTX that is older than the ps3 can run crysis with (1650x1050, high settings, 35fps) or (1280x720, very high settings, 35fps) and that is already look WAY BETTER than uncharted 2 and killzone 2... and that is a FACT

lol at that website listing numbers for PCs "that could be used for gaming" what does that even mean? do we count pcs in calculator sales because "they could be used as calculators".

sorry but PC isnt the most popular gaming medium until we know how many pcs are actually used for gaming.

most cell phones can be used for gaming, in 2007 1.15 billion cell phones were sold.... so i guess technically cell phones are the largest and most popular gaming platform.

Ok then read this... http://software.intel.com/en-us/blogs/2009/03/03/just-how-many-pc-gamers-are-there/ Estimates are between 100 million and 200 million still more than any console combined.

That's some guy talking about "esitmates" and citing absolutely no sources... while "esitmating" how many PC gamers exist. The PS2 alone has sold about 150 million units... :(.

Great. Another 'PC gamers are the superior master species' post. Ironic that in how they try to present themselves as so much more advanced and sophisticated then console gamers, they actually prove just the opposite.

stiggy321

Yep, and your just as bad.

13 year old children aren't allowed to make their own money, at least through official employment... and their brains are still developing. 33 year olds have jobs and put their money and "brain cells" towards a house and having a life instead of checking toms hardware for the latest GTX 460 benchmarks and thinking their "brain cells" are awesome because they can plug a cable into a hard drive and lock a piece of silicon into a slot. 23 year olds ask mommy to pay for a new gaming PC because Crysis is coming out and they have to have it. Then they buy Crysis and realize their mom just spent 2,000 dollars for them to play a video game with "ultra" high details where you can throw a chicken at a tree and break the tree at 20 frames per second... so they get bored and just go back to pornographic websites and Counter Strike 1.6. PC's can't play Halo 3... in split screen.

If I knew a 23 year old who was still asking their parents for money for reasons that pointless I would tell them to get their stuff together or quit life now. I would also question their parents ability to raise children.
