The resolution of that gif is 690x900.The console image has been upscaled.(Most probably to 1600x900)Plus,the PC screenshot is using sweetFX.That exaggerates the difference.

call_of_duty_10

Both screenshots are from the PC version. One is from the vanilla version, one is from the mod that allows higher resolution.

lmao

And Bioshock infinite was released this year.Almost all games released before 2012 had assets for 720p.

call_of_duty_10

That is false and you said all devs design for consoles, at 720p. Where did you say anothing about before 2012 in your previous post ? :?

You keep changing what you said from one post to the next because I keep proving just how wrong you are. If you want to go ahead and believe resolution makes very little difference unless it's in a game like Crysis 3 go ahead. I have proven you wrong and actually backed up my statements. You have done none of that and keep changing what you say from one post to the next.

Because inferior console kiddies must beta test it first, like the other ones.

It's frustrating. This is why PC gamers often bash consoles and their userbases for putting a drag on the industry.

How can people enjoy console games at 25fps, low resolution, inferior visuals and eye-murdering jaggies?

Consolites need to get with the times.

Cyberdot

Why is what you want from gaming anyone's responsibility but your own? If you want games that take advantage of your platform, then play PC exclusives. If you want games with the kind of production values Rockstar puts out, then be prepared for a game that's built to reach a large enough audience to justify the budget it takes.

*sigh*From the beginning,I have been saying that most devs didn't make proper PC versions before 2012.By proper version,I mean a version that utilises the extra power PC has, which means better textures,dx11,shadows,lighting etc.(ie assets).PC got assets made for 720p.

Almost all games released in 2012/13 had proper pc versions. But now that the next gen is about to start, devs will again start releasing ports on pc.The games will have assets made for 1080p(probably),not 1600p.

Gee, I wonder why a modder took all that time to mod in higher resolution support and why so many people jumped on that mod the moment it was out, when higher resolutions don't make any difference for a low quality asset game like Dark Souls according to you. How very strange indeed.

What about my God of War screenshot, lowe ?

Did that one have sweetfx on it too ?

And don't tell me you actually agree with call of duty about resolution not making that big of a difference ? Not you lowe, who made such a huge fuss about Dishonored not having proper multi monitor support and bough the 360 version because of that

Because all those people have monitors with a native res of 1080p or higher.720p looks blurry on their monitors,as it is lower than the native res.

I get the feeling that you do not understand the concept of native resolution and upscaling.

Though, if resolution is absolutely critical, then I assume that I've heard the last of the hype for the Rift, the final version of which will be delivering half-1080p to each eye, spread over a far larger arc than a traditional monitor?

Okay, you just made it clear that you have NO idea how resolutions work on lcd monitors,or what upscaling is.

If everyone used 17" 720p screens for gaming,no one would have made the mod.

1080p is required because LCD monitors suck at upscaling.Upscaling the image makes it blurry.720p on a 17" screen will look as good as 1080p on a 25" screen for a game like dark souls beause its assets will not benefit from a higher resolution.

You are altering my argument again. I did not say that resolution doesn't make a huge difference.I said that the extra pixels become redundant after a certain point for most games. What you just said implies that I claimed something ridiculous, like 480p being equal to 1080p for games like crysis.

call_of_duty_10

Now I am the one altering what you said ? Bwahahahahahahahaha. You cange what you said from one post to the next

You really had to make me quote this again:

It seems you assume that 720p looks bad irrespective of the screen size.I have a 17.5" 720p tv for consoles.

No,resolution doesn't magically improve graphics.A higher res means a bigger image.A bigger image means better visibility of fine details. In a game like, say, crysis 3 running on ultra settings, there are many fine details and you need a big screen to see them properly. But in a game that doesn't even have such kind of graphics, the bigger image isn't going to do anything.

call_of_duty_10

How can I not read that as: resolution doesn't make any difference. You clearly said that resolution is nothing more than a bigger image in that same post and that THE BIGGER IMAGE ISNT GOING TO DOANYTHING

Yeah, I'm the one changing your arguments

It seems that the PC version does have some high resolution textures than console versions, also note that the X360 version has no specular reflections.

Thank you. THAT is what I was talking about. The assets are made for 720p.1600p isn't going to improve the textures on those rocks or make them tesselated. If it was highly detailed, with a very high res texture, great geometry, with cracks, crevices, and little holes in it,resolution would have made a BIG difference.

Its simple to understand. GTA sells like crazy and the console version sells for more. They're more console gamers than PC gamers i would say. And PC gamers who can't wait will buy it on console and then on PC after.

R just making as much profit as they can and i don't blame em.

I thought my post was pretty clear; but I guess it wasn't. I completely disagree with you about a game needing to have amazing graphics for it to have a noticable difference at higher resolutions than 1080p and that:

Since the standard on consoles is 720p,devs design the assets to take advantage of that res.call_of_duty_10

Oh wait you said 'before 2012' in that post, except you clearly didn't.

I guess if my posts and your posts are not clear to any one of us anymore it's time to quit. We are just arguing different things now.

To maximise sales of the more expensive and inferior version on consoles. Those that cant wait for the PC version and have access to a console will get the console version and then maybe even buy the game again for PC when it is eventually released.

Also large development projects are sometimes partly funded by MS/Sony as well as deals made for exclusive/timed exclusive content in the finished version. It makes sense that the console version would be priority when theres lots of $ being thrown around to get it on those platforms. Noone has to be paid to make it work on PC and theres no owner of the PC platform to fund or make any deals in development of the PC version.

I'm not taking a position either way. I'm simply pointing out that passing off that screenshot as being an example of a resolution change is dishonest due to the additional alterations.

lowe0

I have provided multiple images.

And did I comment on those screenshots? Or did I use the singular form of the word, indicating that I was referring to one screenshot?

Still waiting for an answer....

Its simple to understand. GTA sells like crazy and the console version sells for more. They'er more console gamers than PC gamers i would say. And PC gamers who can't wait will buy it on console and then on PC after.

R just making as much profit as they can and i don't blame em.

huh? I like to see the numbers of GTA 4 on steam over the years, heck their was a rockstar sale not too long ago...

Thank you. THAT is what I was talking about. The assets are made for 720p.1600p isn't going to improve the textures on those rocks or make them tesselated. If it was highly detailed, with a very high res texture, great geometry, with cracks, crevices, and little holes in it,resolution would have made a BIG difference.call_of_duty_10

I ... uh ... what ?!

You were talking soley about resolution and it not making the game look any better. I never claimed higher resolution made assets look better :?

It does make everything look sharper.

What does this have to do with the argument at hand ?

I didn't know that image used icenhancer. There you have it. As I said I have provided other examples so it's no big deal imo.

[QUOTE="call_of_duty_10"]IN A GAME THAT DOESN'T HAVE SUCH KIND OF GRAPHICS The text is in bold and yet you ignore it.Fantastic. And please don't revert back to "So every game that isn't crysis 3 doesn't benefit from res?" R4gn4r0k

What, you expect me to jot down everything I ahve said previously in the thread in every post?:|

And I never wanted to continue this argument anyway.I told you to check the difference yourself. If you want to end this, then I have no objection.

Ignorance is no excuse. You passed it off as just a change in resolution, even after you were told otherwise. I really don't care what you two want to argue about, but don't resort to dishonesty to do so.

GTA IV on console sold over 6 million in its first week. I doubt its even sold that much on PC now. And even if it did, you really think £2.50 sales come anywhere close to what is was making on console lol...

The resolution of that gif is 690x900.The console image has been upscaled.(Most probably to 1600x900)Plus,the PC screenshot is using sweetFX.That exaggerates the difference.

R4gn4r0k

It's the truth isn't it? I corrected him after he corrected me. Again, same question. How did I pass it off as proof after I was told otherwise? All you read in that sentence is me correcting him.

And also tell me how I can resort to dishonesty if I told you I didn't know it used Icenhancer. :?

It's dishonesty by omission. Once you're aware that it uses SweetFX, to simply say that the difference is the resolution mod is willingly leaving out part of the truth.

You are right. I was dishonest, a liar and a cheat. I will never do it again. Even if I don't even know I'm doing it, I won't do it.

We don't know what happens on the inside of the studio, so we can only guess.

My guess is, they're a console centric developer that hopes to push PC gamers into buying the console versions. Then, they release the PC version later on (porting it probably doesn't cost too much), hoping those same PC gamers will buy the game again. Since they're doing it time and again, it probably means their business model works.

In any way, doesn't matter to me, have more than enough games to play, a few months of waiting doesn't bother me much. Would never consider playing a GTA game on current gen consoles, don't want to see a great game tarnished by the technical shortcomings like low resolution, lower and unstable FPS, less overall detail and cars/pedestrians, etc...

What's the point? Even if it launched day 1, the bulk of PC buyers will wait months or years until it's like $1 in a Steam sale anyways.

Because that's how R* has done things since GTAIII. Plus, PC sales for the franchise are insanely lower that of the console versions. The PS3 and 360 versions of GTAIV has something like 10 million sold each while the PC version barely broke 1 million. Just get the console version at release as you play the series for it's gameplay, not 'teh graphix', and get it later on PC to f*ck around with mods. That's what I've always done anyways.

Funny. PC gamers' idea of "better" is just graphics. Nothing next-gen bout that, which is why it's still stuck playing last-gen console ports.
