Its not an excuse you still haven't explained to me why you feel this game is better than anything else (if you are the person I believe I have talked to before about this several times). There are better Wii games to use as an example of what the Wii is capable of, but those games still do not beat other top tier games last gen.

You are confusing art styIe with technical graphics.Willy105
graphics when talking about games usually refer to the technical side of things, which Im sure you will agree with looking at this thread, which you mention almost nothing other than the technical things about games except for color (even though every game has to have some form of color).
Art $tyle is purely subjective and cannot be argued one way or another objectively.

No, I'm not. And screenshots do no justice. Played them in person, I know what you're talking about. I've played both games, and I have to say that neither of you know what you're talking about. The textures in SMG are a blurred mess compared to the textures in Doom 3. Have you ever zoomed in on a wall, or the ground in SMG? Or any character model? Up close, you're looking at a jumble of pixels and splotchy colors that pale in comparison to last-gen PC games like Doom 3. Just look at the textures on the floor in the SMG picture: they look incredibly undetailed. Oh, but sorry, I forgot: apparently when you're playing these games in motion, the textures magically transform into hi-res versions. SMG is a good-looking game for the Wii, but don't even try to compare it to Doom 3 on a technical level.[QUOTE="Pices"][QUOTE="princeofshapeir"]No, I'm not. You don't know what you're talking about, and you're wrong. SMG looks far worse than Doom 3. I could show you a thousand more pictures of Doom 3 and SMG and compare them side-by-side, and even circle texture areas in every screenshot in MS Paint or something. If you're going to just sit here and stick your fingers in your ears while yelling "LA-LA-LA-LA I CAN"T HEAR YOU", fine. I've seen Cows, Lemmings, and Sheep do that enough these days and I've gotten pretty used to it.I've played both games, and I have to say that neither of you know what you're talking about. They won't become higher res magically when going into motion. Also, you are missing the point, it's not whether which texture is higher res, it's which one looks better.
Textures don't work like that. They won't become higher res magically when going into motion. Also, you are missing the point, it's not whether which texture is higher res, it's which one looks better. I was being sarcastic. And a texture looks more detailed at a higher resolution. If you can provide an example of an up-close SMG texture looking bettter than an up-close Doom 3 texture, go for it. And just so we're clear here as to which game looks better in motion: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fn5AmSO45Ks[QUOTE="princeofshapeir"] I've played both games, and I have to say that neither of you know what you're talking about. But look at it this way: The Doom 3 screen shows a very small confined, rectangular room with little lightning. Meanwhile, Super Mario Galaxy is showing very large environments with no pop-ups, round and curvey environments, not to mention all the characters running around the area with full animations.
[QUOTE="Willy105"]Also, if you can't grasp where we are coming from, Doom 3 was intentionally developed to look as ugly and gritty as possible. By contrast, SMG was made to look as good and pleasing as possible. It took a lot of work to make Doom 3 look as ugly and gritty as possible, and it is a technical marvel. But it also has to deal with that fact.princeofshapeirUm. What. We're not arguing about the atmosphere of either game. We're talking, technically, about the graphics in each game. Pices said that SMG had better textures and maintained a better framerate. He has been proven wrong several times already. Framerate depends on the hardware, and SMG runs 100% at 60 fps on the Wii. Meanwhile Doom 3 runs at 30 fps (and some publications say it runs at 20 fps) on the Xbox.

And once again, the Doom 3 screen is at a much smaller scale, has one monster and few details (which is why it can achieve the lightining and shadows). The Mario Galaxy screen has two big, round Goombas with their own particle effects while walking, plus the round green warp pipe and the glowing giant 1-Up at the top.

You're suppose to call the mods when you are being attacked. Don't argue with people that just annoy, its a recipe for moderation. Trust me, I would know.

Thanks for the advice, Actic. Mario Galaxy has very little going on screen most of the time as well as Doom, but the things going on in doom is a much larger achievement due to the complexity of those things, having two complex monsters walking about is going to be far more diffucult than two very simple goombas. Also simply making/scaling a goomba larger or a pipe bigger wont necessarily add more geometry to the scene a 4 X 4 box is going to be the same polygons as a 16X16 box. SMG does have larger maps though, but those maps are not close to being as detailed as Dooms.
It has worse tech than its competition.
Yet it is still able to achieve 1st in sales.
And pump out loads of AAE-AAAE games.
So what if it has casual garbage.
Considering its standing point. It is an achievement that it is what it is today.
TheDogout
Wii is pumping out loads of AAAE games? What alternate universe are we in right now?
The reason the Wii is picked on is precisely for that reason - the fact that it is number 1 in sales but has the LEAST amount of fantastic games.

Wow, I'm surprised. I thought you were going to make fun of the Wii, but you did the opposite.
Most gamers don't like it because of graphics.
People who kind of play video games, but not much don't like it because they feel like they are supposed to.
And almost everyone just hasn't given it a chance.
Also, to my second point, and example is that we were talking about video games in my drafting c1ass and this one kid (Who is a complete moron) was saying how everyone he knows with a 360 and PS3 prefers the PS3, which I agree with. Then I said that I have a Wii and a PS3, and I like my Wii a lot more. The kid said, "You like the Wii more? Isn't that a little pathetic? Or embarassing?" I was like, "How is it embarassing?" He said, "Well, it has really bad graphics... and no one really likes it."
So basically, I told him that I don't care what other people think, and my opinion is that it has the best games and controls.

Exactly. Super Mario Galaxy's scale is only achievable because the character models and textures are so primitive and undetailed up-close. It takes far more processing power to render a game like Doom 3, where there is copious detail on everything, from character models to environments.Um. What.
