Will PS4 be considered the greatest console of all time?

The PS4 is destroying all kinds of sales records and the sheer mass of games coming out on the system will put it in a league of its own. People are quick to point out that the PS4 doesn't have as many exclusives as previous Sony consoles, yet the consoles that do have more exclusives are still lagging behind. Which proves the point that in the end, it's about ALL games, not just a select few. Last gen PS3 had a lot of exclusives, but many have been forgotten because they just weren't that successful. Sony has created a great console that fits most gamers' needs, and for that, they have been rewarded with 50% of the market. We still have 3 years left at least and so I believe that PS4 will easily be the greatest console of all time. Don't you agree, SW? Is there anything that can stop it?

Probably will depend no which generation of gamers you ask.

Short answer? No.

Not innovative, not enough unique games, two years in and arguably only one exclusive that will make history, nothing really new with it and the list goes on. Good console but no, not even close to the best of all time.

So sales determine the baddest console of all time? I thought it was games and in that case HELL NO. The PS4 doesn't rank in the top 5 in that regards.

I would give it to the SNES. Greatest PS2 exclusives are Persona 4, GOW, Shadow of the Colossus, Ico and the like. They are excellent games but they simply don't compete against the best SNES exclusives. ALTTP, Super Mario World 2, Mario Kart, Contra III, Super Mario RPG, Star Fox, Super Metroid and many many more.

The PS4 isnt even that good. It could be so much better but its taking forever or things are coming at all (fucking folders please Sony God... why cant I have my own pic,videos and music? )

And the DS4 battery is a damn joke. Why doesnt sony come up with an update DS4 model (not a pro controller, although I wouldnt mind that either)

Based on what? It hasn't done anything new or had any influence of any kind. It's not the SNES or 360 or PS2. It's an expensive expansion pack for last gen consoles that doesn't even let you play your old games

It won't even be in the top 5, it's selling like hot cakes but it's one of the most unremarkable consoles to have ever released, it's vanilla ice cream.

Certainly when you see the way SONY gave the POWER back to the gamer and gave its fans the most powerful video game console in the history of video games at the same protecting gamers from MS' corporate DRM polices, you can make a strong case for it.

No. Sales don't define the best console ever, the legacy left behind by the console does. The PS4 is a multiplat machine. Nothing more. Gamers want their CoD/Madden/FIFA/Assassin's Creed/Fallout/AAA budget fix, they buy a PS4 to play those games. That's it.

Like most things it will come down to perspective, or as Mr. Kenobi's ghost told Luke in Return of the Jedi "you'll find many things come down to a point of view". Maybe it will from some of these 15-20 something gamers. But from someone who has been at this hobby for over 30 years, the PS2 seems to still hold that mark. The PS4 is mirroring it in that it is getting 3rd party exclusives but many seem to be from Japanese companies making the types of games I bypass easily. The PS2 seemed to have 3rd party exclusive support from even many western devs which made it all the more dominant imo. Time will tell I suppose.

After buying the Elite X1 controller I could definitely see me buying an Elite DS4. Expensive as they may be, I am loving the customizability of it. I'd save the cash do so for my PS4 as well. I am on and playing MGS5 as I post and would love to set somethings differently.

It's mainly beating everything left and right because the lack of competition, it is by no means mind blowing development from last gen nor does it give pc's run for their money like the gens before.

SNES and PS2 would be my choices.

It could be- we'll see where it stands when it is done with its lifecycle.

The problem with it right now is that nothing defines it. In terms of hardware, it's literally a shinier version of what came before that doesn't attempt anything new. In terms of games, its biggest hits are multiplats, and so far, it has had no system defining games like usually all consoles have had by this point in their lifecycle.

Will it be the greatest? I don't know. Right now, no. But hey, 2016 looks great for it, so we'll know which way it's headed by the end of the year.

In terms of overall game library? Not even close to number one. Two years in and I still have more fingers on one hand than games for PS4 I actually care about.

OG Playstation, PS2, and PS3 are all better than PS4 and offered something different and better than the competitors.

PS4 is a flash in the pan and will be forgotten when the next generation of consoles come out. It will never be spoken of like Super Nintendo, Dreamcast, OG Playstation, PS2, or 360. Those consoles actually changed gaming

PS4 in 2016 will be more heavenly for gaming than all combined 1997.
