You are absolutly right. The PC lacks fighters and JRPGs. Why? Those games are built for controllers.

The console can't do MMORPGs or RTSs well. The PC can't do fighters well and there just aren't any JRPGs for the PC.

Wasdie

But PC has controllers :|

Why can't consoles do MMORPGS and RTS well?

  • Phantasy Star Online
  • Command & Conquer 3

Sure they can't do them as well as the PC but they can do them. Both have been shown to do both at one point and time.

Buy yourself a PS2 for fighters and JRPG.radiocreed
If you are a fan of the genres you will want the newest titles, not possible while limited to last-gen console tech.

Remember that like many people said, you can play a lot of fighters and JRPGs... before the 2000s technically.

A gamepad is a great investment and the oppurtunities are amazing. Right now I'm playing Mario 64, Zelda OOT, Spyro 2, and the first silent hill on my computer with the gamepad and its just flawless.

Blackbond

That still doesn't solve my problem on how would I use a PC to play Virtua Fighter 5, DOA 4, Street Fighter IV, Soul Calibur IV ect. Essentially I'm saying JRPGS and Fighters are not getting modern day featured releases on PC.

They Don't invent these for nothing.

:D

And gametap haha.

Where do I put the Virtua Fighter 5 and DOA4 on this controller? Where will Soul Calibur 4 and Tekken 6 go?

:P

The same place where Last Blade 2 or KoF 2003 go on 360 pad :P

In the Dreamcast and the PS2/Xbox/Neo Geo???

Lol... having to resort to old consoles :D And still the sad fact is that even with all those you would stil lget inferior 2D fighters line-up compared to PC :)

This is more of an opinion thing but, I can't help but realize that you put down fighters.

I've always looked at PC gaming as a "solo" thing - meaning that it's meant to be played by just one individual, with the multiplayer coming in the form of online gaming.

To me, fighters emphasize multiplayer from the get go, because those are the games that you sit around with your buddies, turn on the big screen TV, and have a blast playing; now they've even gotten online. I guess you can fault me, because I grew up in the Street Fighter era, where it was just about playing with your friends, which I don't think PC gaming could ever replicate.

As for JRPG; I don't know much about Japanese computer gaming, maybe because they don't(?), maybe someone could clarify this for me. But taking a look at the giants of JRPG, Squaresoft (Square Enix) and others, they all sprung out of consoles, which almost makes one think that is where they belong.

elbow2k
Indeed. Between sessions of SF and MK we'd get some classic Final Fight co-op action or Double Dragon. That commradery cannot be replicated online.

No, not necessarily. That's a big misconception. But you tell me what's so illegal about sticking an FF9 PSX disc into your computer and emulating it.

It's illegal to own a copy of the PSX bios if you do not actually owtn the console.

And if you owned the console, I doubt you would be emulating it.

I own the console, and I emulate because it offers significantly better graphics at a higher resolution.

lol! you cant be serious. Misinformed hermit ftw!

Emuation will not make games look better. The best emulator availabl right now is probally Project 64. It runs at the same basic resolution and some thingsw are lost in the emulation process. Usually something may be blacked/whited out. It may not fit right (see conker) or there will be unplayable parts.

Emulation is good for some games, but it will never offer the complete original experience.

Not really. A lot of emulators (most of them actualy) offer better graphics. Be it higher res, smoother framerate, texture filtering or just plain old sprites filtering. Also...majority of emulators of older consoles are perfect in 99% of games, full support, no artifacts etc. And with ability to plug and configure every old controler into PC emulation can recreate original experience, only better

I expected you to compare current gaming platforms.

Wait are you saying even with old consoles you would get worse 2D fighters then what the PC currently has?

Blackbond

Of course. As PC has bassicaly every good 2D fighting game avaible on it and few good ones that never apeared on any console.

All online enabled, all using any controler you can dream off and all on one platform. Instead of 10 of them (that's what your logic leads to).

Lol at these guys talking about emulation.

...and you call yourselves gamers....gamers play the actual game, not some washed up ported code.

It's like buying a bootleg of your favorite movie.

...at least imo, maybe I'm so anti-emulation because I collect gaming software, having the boxes and instructions etc actually matters to me.

Anyway, emulation FTL lol.

Spartan070

although i haven't used emulation, but still how emulating console games mean thatyou cannot have the boxes ? also emulation play the actual game

DoA online is coming as an exclusive to PC...

Anyway buying a PS3 just for 2 genres is kinda sad...

True_Gamer_

Man I never thought I'd get to say this. But seeing as how I don't own a PS3 and I said console I finally get to say this lol.

So DOA Online (remember Xbox and Xbox 360 already have online DOA's) is coming to PC huh? So I um gotta, lets see....oh yeah. I gotta WAIT right?

Hmm how is the 360 going with JRPGs? Too much love from Japan side?

Eternal sonata. Play it. Its full of goodness.

Yes, you are absolutely right. I don't even know why some people bother arguing this point. Really the only thing somewhat close to a quality "fighting game" that I consider to be from PC land would be the jedi knight series with saber duels...now those were cool.

The fact that it doesn't have the current games that define the fighting community as of right now (such as the ones I listed and others like Arcana Hearts and Fist of the North Star) pretty much disqualifies it from being the platform for fighters.

And honestly their are dozens of more console fighters that aren't avalible on Gametap.

Seriously it doesn't even have Super Turbo on there how can I take the platform seriously as the God of Fighting Games?

Also aren't you the same guy that claimed that Shadow of the Collosus was a platformer?

  1. Guilty Gear Accent Core
  2. Fatal Fury Mark of the Wolves
  3. Neo Geo Battle Collosium
  4. Marvel vs Capcom
  5. Mavel vs Capcom 2
  6. Jo Jo's Bizzare Adventure
  7. Capcom vs SNK
  8. Capcom vs SNK 2 EO
  9. Street Fighter Alpha
  10. Street Fighter Alpha II
  11. Street Fighter Alpha III
  12. KOF 2002
  13. KOF 2002

How do you add better control options? Both use Arcade Sticks. Does PC have access to something greater then an Arcade Stick? If so please tell me.

The fact that you haven't provided a link for the games I asked for: thus being Third Strike, Accent Core, King of Fighters XI, Battle Colloseum, Arcana Hearts, and Fist of the North Star.

These are currently the fighting games of the community. The genre keeps getting improved every year. WTF would I want to play KOF outdated by 4 years? Seirously give me a link to the games I listed.

Not to mention the games you listed are on the PS2 also.

Did you just refer that online play in fighting games is as competitive as offline play. :|

Nothing beats PC for 2D fighters? Yeah um those games on that list aren't on PC buddy.

Blackbond

Actualy Garou, SF Alpha 1-3 And KOF 2002 and 2003 are on PC :)

Nothing beats PC in 2D fighters. To even have a fighting chance against it you need at least 3-4 consoles. So yeah..PC is by far the best platform for 2D fighters, nothing else comes close.

Street Fighter Alpha I and Alpha II indeed are but what about the others? Do you have links for the other games?

look at gametap :)

And what about the game I listed. The games that everyone in the fighting community is currently playing?

Sucks to live in your city then.

Just like you laugh when it comes to consolites talking about RPGs and tactical FPSs,

These fighting fans here will laugh when you try talk in their arena. I'm gonna leave you guys to it. And this time, there's already clear winners

Yeah....I think you're just making stuff up now. I doubt you have arcade in your home where there are 50-60 2D fighting games all playable online. And 2D fighter fans? I'm preety sure more people play SF3 right now on MAME than on consoles.

And so are you, unless you can provide me a link to the following games I listed that for some strange reason you constantly ignore.

Since you didn't bother looking the games I listed up, I actually did and it turns out that none of them are on Gametap. So how is the PC the best fighitng platform, especially since pretty much every fighting game is ported to the PS2 including ones that aren't on the PC?

Nope.

Most 2D fighers on consoles aren't online enabled which makes them preety useless.

Plus I would love if you could direct me to english releases of Arcana Heart and Fist of North Star

And of course you could just play all those PS2 fighters on PC through emulation , so I don't see your problem here

Ah....New Zealand is the home of SF II fanatics. It's the game the Polynesians swear by. So yeah....the complex right underneath the cinema is full of 2D fighters. As I said, get out more often. It does wonders to you.

Yes, 2D fighter fans. Gunraiden is one. He opened a whole can of whoop ass on previous posters before. And he's doing the same to you. Blackbond is a significant other.

Look, I ain't the one pretending I'm a fighting fan. You are. I'm sure that you're the only person in this entire forum that's an expert on FPSs, RPGs, Adventure games, RTSs, Action/Adventures, Platformers...hell the entire everything

Siged. For the final time online isn't viable for competition and is not taken seriously by the fighting community.

Seriously that online comment was just ridiculous. One of the most basic things to know in the fighitng community is that online is not viable for real competition.

So..bassicaly unless your're a maniac that travels around his city and often to other cities just to have decent play time in 2D fighters, PC remains the best 2D fighting platform. Good to know :)

Nah, but upon further insight I think I willingly gave up ground in the beginging. Its okay though I won it back. But you can go ahead and put forth your input of Fighters over Gametap. I'd appreciate it.

AdrianWerner

It's called LAN party and tournaments along with something called friends.

Finally this is just strange.

Gametap doesn't have over 80 fighting games, they just don't know how to caterogize for crap.

Seriously look at these so called "fighting games" on here.

Captain Commando?

Comix Zone?
Golden Axe?

Knights of the Round?

Streets of Rage?

Can't wait to show my EVO skills on those.

Not only that but the amount of game missing on here is just ridiculous. There isn't one Marvel vs. Capcom game, Virtua Fighters series doesn't go past 2, there isn't one Soul Caliber game, nor a Tekken game, Capcom vs. SNK is totall missing, and seriously just look at the list. Not only are all of the real fighting games on the PS2, but it's also missing many key games alongside most of it's games just being part of one series or just some reject game nobody cares about (MegaMan Power Fighters?)

So the PS2 has all of the competitive fighting games that Gametap has and more of them and is still getting new ones. Thus meaning it's the platform for the fighting fan.

So you were pretty much were wrong the whole time while talking down to many users on here and using witty smilies and slogans acting like you were right.

Can't read, can we? Otherwise you wouldn't be naming 3D fighters. You can play bassicaly every 2D fighter on PC, some of them through ports, some of them through gametap and some of them through emulation (which is perfectly fine as long as you have original DVD and yes Arcana Heart, GG: AC, KoF XI are all fully playable through emulation).

The site listed both 2D and 3D fighters and you claimed that plenty of fighters were avalible there yet hardly any were.

some of them through ports,,AdrianWerner

Which ones? Do you any proof?

some of them through gametapAdrianWerner

Very few.

and some of them through emulation (which is perfectly fine as long as you have original DVD and yes Arcana Heart, GG: AC, KoF XI are all fully playable through emulation).AdrianWerner

So let me get this straight, I'm going to buy the PS2 version of Arcana Hearts and instead of playing it on my PS2, I'm going to install it and upload it to my PC. Now why wouldn't I just play it on my PS2?

EDIT - Upon further research I found out that none of the games you listed are avalible for the PC.
