When Unreal 2 first came out they didn't have a multiplayer portion of the game.. this was fixed in a later patch which enabled multiplayer.. thus the poor review and thus hate.. Note: This was before UT2003 came to be.. so everyone expected it to have a multiplayer component..

I personally thought the game was pretty good.. I'm not much of a multiplayer person myself.

Hey I'm just saying that new ideas ARE still possible. I'm not going to pretend to be some l33t game dev with a stock of new ideas jiggling in the back of my head. All I'm saying is three things:

1)The same way we got from pong to Crysis would be the same way to continue. People 10 years ago didn't even dream of what we take today for granted in games... I can't pretend to be any different, all I know is that nothing's changed. No great roadblock had been reached, at least none that I know of...

2) Game companies, like all companies, like to play it safe :) A sure way of getting money is better than a new and innovative way of getting money, which involves its own added risks, hightened budget, and questionable acceptance into the gaming market.

3) People who want to see game companies take more daring and creative steps, however, have a perfectly good right to voice their opinion :) I'm not saying that dissing current games is the way to go - far from it, I continue to enjoy PC games, even if the majority IS just pretty eye candy a couple of new features - but asking for more daring ideas isn't bad :)

Good point.. sorry, I though you were the average "whinner". But, I feel the reason for the lack of innovation is party due to big companies.. You don't see much originality comming from EA, Microsoft, etc.. you do however saw innovation with small companies like Westwood, Origin, Bioware, Id (a 10 person company back in the day), Valve, Blizzard, Looking Glass Studios, etc.. We still have modern companies like Introversion and the like.. but what is lacking is more of "mom and pop" companies where "usually" is where the "innovation" comes from.

I guess that is what most companies in this day in age are doing.. companies like Walmart are elliminating the competition.. Is this a good thing? No.. It seems like more "people don't like variation" -- quoting from a Buffy episode of the Double Meat Palace.. Which is why every McDonalds dishes out the same meals.. Where a Lexus (07) looks almost the same as a BMW (07) from the interior.... note: these are just examples. It seems to me the human race has hit a wall in terms of variation.. how many different kinds of cell phones does one need?! A cell is for calling people where ever you go .. cool concept.. but where is the innovation? Blue Tooth Wireless?.. please.. In the end it is still a cell phone... so what if it can surf the internet.. watch TV, play mp3s, take pictures, etc? Is that innovation? Or is it just tackin on more crap?

Sorry, I just see this stuff more in daily life than in just video games.. must be why I am so bitter.. :P

[QUOTE="Testoster0wn"]

[QUOTE="twitch007911"]COD4 has terrible graphics and sucksMasterYevon

Gee that's funny because I've always heard that Call of Duty 4 had the best graphics of any game to date.

I believe that was sarcasm :P

Especially with all this "its not revolutionary enough". I'm sorry to say but if you want a genre breaking game every 6 months then you better go back to the 90s.

I don't think gamers understand that 3d isn't new anymore. Most of the ideas have been tried and played out over the years.

Disagreed. There isn't a fixed stockpile of ideas that's running out. The fact is that it's easier, safer, and bound to generate at least an average level of popularity to follow tested, successful game formulas, and just build on things like action/story/movie-like events and feeling... "Hey look how much money those guys / we made from that last title - let's feed em the same stuff again, but buff it up a bit with updated graphics/physics. And throw in a new feature or two as well... Nothing new, you know, just push the envelope 2 inches further to give em something more to wow about." Bingo - why take a risk and come up with something creative and when you can follow the same formulas and make money for sure?

Not to say that there aren't genuinely innovative games out there... Just saying that people that complain about things not being revoluntionary enough, for their tastes anyway, may have a point.

All in all though I'm still glad to be a PC gamer :P I'll never put down my keyboard and mouse for a stupid gamepad - everrrrr :D

Then please give us an entirely new genre... I'll let you know, if you had such an idea you would have created one yourself instead of having other people do it for you.. Then you may or may not "cash in".

don't buy games made by EA or by a developer EA bought.rock_solid

QFT.. EA is notorious for not supporting games they make.. example: MOHAA .. one patch and that was all then they start pushing out expansions.. Spearhead.. Breakthrough.. Pacific Assault (full game).. etc.. with one patch each.... this is the same for The Sims... expansion after expansion.. one patch here and there.. but as for support .. nada..

Blizzard is way more supportive of its games as is Valve.. constantly releasing patches.. I would buy a Valve, Id, or Blizzard game before I would ever buy an EA game..

Companies like Westwood (Original C&C), Origin (Wing Commander, Strike Commander, etc), Maxis, Dynamix, have all been bought out by EA.. small yet powerful companies that have been chewed up..

But alas, we gamers are a greedy bunch and will buy the next Battlefield or MOH game that hits the shelves.. not to mention the EA Sports games..

If I recall the last great game EA made was with Fade to Black.. (I'm talking about EA the original company without the "buy outs")

MOH was a good series but they killed it through lack of support.. If they hadn't, I would still be playing MOHAA multi, and the clan that I was in would not have shut down.. 2yrs of my life were stripped away due to EA not supporting their games.. I curse EA.. and all it stands for!

Die EA Die

Well..it's in reality action-heavy real-time tactics. Altough...exacly where was this strategy you talk about in Close Combat 1-3? I failed to see even ounce of it there, and Total War? THere's zero strategy in it's real-time segment.AdrianWerner

Ah, Close Combat A Bridge Too Far and the Russian Front.. (didn't like 2) both great games..

TR2 is killer.. what's not fun in scalling the Great Wall?! Too much gun play? umm.. sure.. it was too many traps.. moreso than the first game..

Not to mention that TR2 was the first game to ever have a nude mod for it.. (yes I stooped that low back in the day.. oh hell I stoop that low even with my GTS:SA Hot Coffee mod.. :P)
