"Dont even watch television these days. Everything is so over-*ucked with all the advertising and mass-media. Argue what you freakin will, i know where i stand"
I totally comprehend... we all no this only can lead to totalabyss... the mass-media will bring us nothing more than absolutly recklessnes... as we speaking of wich:
"mean if you wanna spend the few years you have on this earth with crappy hardware go ahead but I wont. "
yeah, earth is exploding and going to hell anyway, so why shoud we spend our last days with low-grade products, right :D

Nobody forces anyone to buy the lastest crap, but, it is nice to have if you got the cash for it.
We live very few years on this earth (I feel sorry for dogs who only last 15yrs on average). For me, I doubt I will reach the age of retirement, so I don't give a single thought about it.. If you consider that by the time one reaches 35yrs old.. half of the population has died, then yes, the likelyhood of a person reaching the age of 65-70 for a male is VERY slim.. (I believe the average age of life expectancy for males in the US is around 76yrs old)
record-high life expectancies were found for white males (75.4 years) and black males (69.2 males), as well as for white females (80.5 years) and black females (76.1 years).

I wonder though what is the life expectancy of someone without health insurance? I'd wager less than 67yrs old. I'm more likely to have a heart attack in my 50s.. considering that my family inherits heart disease and diabetes... So why not live life NOW than later? Why put off things you CAN buy now than hold off 10yrs from now? I don't have children so I don't have responsibilities there nor do I have a wife that I have to worry about life insurance.. so for me.. I can invest in nice material objects.. :)
Nah, I dont think so. Most people are smart enough with their money to realize that gaming is a hobby and thus is not a priority in a financial sense. Also, if you play HL2 or any Steam-provided game and participate in the hardware survey, you will see that most people (well, at least a few hundred thousand of them!) are not conditioned either. The % of people running Dx10 cards over the 8600 series is fairly small, and the number of people running SLI is even smaller!
So no, we are not conditioned, nor should "conditioning" be mistaken for wants. Dont kid yourself: just about everyone would like a big screen TV, a top-line Dx10 card, a Quad core processor, and a crapload of memory. But I also want a Porsche Carrera GT, a cabin on Lake Tahoe, and many other grand things. The key difference here is that people realize what these things are: wants. They are not needs, and conditioning (in my connotation) implies that someone is trained to need something.
So, in short, no I dont think the majority of PC gamers are conditioned.

Pretty much what I said.. (should look before I leap, I guess) I still am rocking on a P4 3.6.. and yes, I do have all my games at max.. but hell they run damn well, when they don't I will tone down settings.. like I always have in the past.. I never used to flip AA on and sometimes kill shadows on my old P4 2.0. I just bought a laptop for the nights I work graveyard so that I don't get bored out of my mind.. it playes games okay.. some games like Doom 3 will give me 2FPS on the lowest settings...so I forgo using it for graphic intensive games.. but what do you expect for 600 USD (keep in mind it is a laptop..lol)
I also upgraded my P4 3.6 from a 6800 to an 8800 so the differences in both cards was like night and day..
But, alas, I am a graphics whore and as such must defer to my carnal nature and that of supreme egoism.. :P
How many times a week do you get on the forums and notice there's another new thread about how such-and-such game doesn't run maxed on my PC?
Are we that pathetic to actually think we need to have the most bleeding-edge technology to have a game run and look as beautiful as the videos/pics/live demos that we have played witness to?
Why is that? What exactly is it that causes us to want what they have and if we don't have it, we (for lack of a better word) cry?
Does it truely matter that a new game doesn't run maxed out on my PC? Does the world stop turning because of this? Will you stop breathing and keel over and die if your PC can't run the newest games maxed?
All the media hype (videos, pics, demos, betas, etc...) that builds up a game causes us to see that game in awe; We feel the need to match that awe (or exced it) in order to have the best play time we can out of that game. Having to step down to second best is out of the question! We, from childhood, are taught that we have to be the best and have the best. Then, when something new comes out and this new something is better then the something you already own, we have to go out and buy the new something. We are conditioned from when we were young, into believing that we need to have the best and be the best and if we're not, then we're losers!
So, are you conditioned?
Iknow that I am not conditioned. I don't care about having the newest cell phone, or the biggest and brighest Plasma TV or about having all the top-notch technology in my PC. I just don't care...I like to have newer and better stuff, but I could care less if I didn't have it. For example, it took my wife over 2 years to finally convince me that we needed new furniture because she was sick and tired of how the old stuff felt and the way it looked (our husky chewed the crap out of these couches). Finally, I said yes - she had her new couches already picked out - then that led to having to repaint the living room and the kitchen.... So, I'm not conditioned, but I have noticed that the younger generations are...it's a sad site to see.

Conditioned? Or needing to satify our own egos? Why do new BMWs sell well? Why does that New 2007 Lexus that parks itself make me salivate from my mouth? Why does the idea of a 8 core processor due out in mid 2008 cry for me to buy the first one? Why does the idea of having a static state (flash) drive in my laptop make me want it? Conditioning? Or is it egocentrism? If technology doesn't move us like it does most people then what is the point of selling products at all? Are we just merely Capitalists with a need to satify our capitalistic desires? Or are we really just out to get the first X-box 360 before anyone else on the block has one? Do I really NEED a new computer? No, frankly I don't NEED a TV at all! Or do I NEED a sofa, or the daily paper. Why do we have these items? Because we want, and want and want. I wouldn't mind a Sleep Comforter Bed, or a nice black leather living room set. We want these things to feel "better" about ourselves.. (in most cases). The harm of that? Nothing, so long as you don't drive yourself into debt because of the "need". We want to take nice long trips to Thailand, or Tahiti.. not because we NEED to.. but because we "Want" to. We want to scuba dive off the coast of Cozumel, to experience the Gothic Cathedrals of Spain, to take a tour boat up and down the Thames. To go to Ambsterdam and get ..... well you know.. :P
Part may be conditioning.. but I feel a majority of it comes from our own egos and our environment in which we live.
Currently playing Commander Keen Complete Pack.. Just finished Call of Duty United Offensive for the dozenth time.. Still a great game even years later after its initial release..
I believe in playing old games.. In fact I recommend it.. (that is if your ever to call yourself a "gamer" and be serious about it)
wow this thread is like a troll magnet, gjBLaZe462
I'm pretty sure it will be modded :)
Final Fantasy 2 (US) and Ninja Gaiden 2 (when Irene gets stabbed)
Pretty much when I was younger.. the dawn of the SNES.. :)
[QUOTE="BounceDK"][QUOTE="chrisrooR"]Oh wow, so now every person who has the wits to actually say "screw MS" are nerds.. You need to grow up, idiot.[QUOTE="BounceDK"][QUOTE="acsguitar"]Just wait till the nerds get DX10 working with XPmrbojangles25
actually, he wasn't referring to people who hate MS, they just hate the fact that MS has a complete monopoly over the new graphical engine. you need to grow up and stop trying to correct people who aren't wrong. :|
Oh wow I just got served .. Where cann I bow? Oh right, I cantBounce is in a very bad mood.I mean, more so than usual. Go read some of his other posts today.
There there....bojangles is here for you *hug*

lol Bounce is has always been like this...
Kudos to you for showin concern Mr. Jangles.. :) BTW, update your blogg!! :P
I'm still waiting for the "oh so beautiful graphics and higher performance" in DX10. I haven't seen it yet, in fact it makes everything slower. You sacrifice fps for absolutely nothing. My own Bioshock DX9/DX10 comparative screenshots can be viewed here. Smart people know that DX10 isn't about pretty graphics or extra performance (because both fail miserably), but instead a huge load of extra particles. Particles replacing sprites to make it simple. But not a single game has managed to do this, and if Bioshock is in fact using particles instead of sprites, they did a pretty damn good job doing the DX9 version because I can't see any difference at all between the two. Only extra smoke which is way overdone if you ask me.BounceDK
Nice Link.. kinda tells me the implementation of Direct X 10 still has a ways to go.. a year more before I jump on the Vista bandwagon.. (Or just hold off for Vienna)
I'm still holding tight to XP on my main machine.. Although I have Vista Home Premium on my laptop.. (can't utilize Direct X10 on that.. no 8800 card for those out yet.. ) Although I like the pretty OS.. I don't think its worth upgrading for.. since Object Desktop can give you the same features for XP.. :)
All in all.. Vista is nice but I'm holding back until a game comes out that "I must have" and is only Direct X 10 complient..
I loved the game for the first fourty hours. But after being in the desert for couple days, I returned to Reddock. For some reason all the orcs and mercenaries had wandered there all the way from Faring and they were hostile at me. I hadn't done anything to them. I tried to load my older saves, but they had the same bug. I didn't feel like playing the game anymore, because it ruined everything I had planned.
I might give it another later on. Gothic 3 is the last Gothic I bought though. I don't want to support JoWood any longer. They stopped patching the game after v1.12 even though it still had serious problems. And still does with the community patch 1.4.
With better combat (bow feels like cheating etc.) and more polishing the game would be superb.

They said the same thing about Vampire The Masquerade: Bloodlines...
