[QUOTE="omerdv"]I have both of the games, but I started playing oblivion first and now when I try to play morrowind, it's unplayable... I got use to the good graphics oblivion has, the controls, the menus....and when I try to play morrowind I see crapy graphics, wierd controls, and wierd menus...ohh and I'm not a graphic whore or whatever you call it...if I would have played morrowind first, I'd probably like itHiResDes
OMG, that is exactly what happened to me, I tried to go back and play Morrowind after hearing about how superior it was, but I have to say the game was virtually unplayable after having played Oblivion (especially when coupled with Shivering Isles).
Believe me, the game was virtually unplayable long before Oblivion came along.I found Morrowind to be an unbelievable bore. The combat and that horrid newspaper-like copy and paste character dialogue/text ... menu ...... tree were the biggest deal breakers.
Oblivion corrected every gripe I had with Morrowind, and even added things Idid'nt know I wanted.
Only things I can say I didn't like about Oblivion were the ever leveling enemies, selectable difficulty at any time in game, and yes, the fast travel. All of which I felt were casual-izing things a bit more than required. Everything else was phenomenal and it has a rightful place as a AAA game and one of the best games of all time, something Morrowinddid'nt have nor, in my opinion, deserve.
And to the guy that said Morrowind had a bigger game world ...... what are you smokin'? Oblivion's game world is like three times the size of Morrowind's.
[QUOTE="AlwaysSoft"]To me, it is a throw away. "Fanboy" accusations from the poster above you aside, Ifeel multiple languages on my game, when I will only use one,are a waste of time, and a rather meager thing to "complain" about.

I wasn't trying to be inflammatory by hinting that you might have biases yourself. I like the 360 quite a bit. Due to bad experiences with customer service, I've purchased 5 of them at full price in the last two years. I think the system has quality software, and I thoroughly enjoy it, but that doesn't mean I don't think it has flaws.
My loyalties definitely lie with Sony, but that doesn't mean I won't listen to criticism of the system, and it hasn't stopped me from making plenty of my own criticisms.
I guess what bothered me about your previous post was that you ignored the criticism of the system you like, and amplified the criticism of the PS3.Well I mentioned the criticism about lack of standard HDD (which still bugs me), and did'nt try to defend it as a throw away complaint.
This generation most of my gaming time has gone to the 360 for sure, but I don't hold any stock in MS. If Sony does something that I like better, I will be the first one switching.
The blu-ray issue does annoy me a bit though, so if I come off as a MS supporter rather than a DVD supporter, pay no mind to it.
[QUOTE="AlwaysSoft"]But for a Canadian based division of a French based company, it's hardly a meager thing if they wanted to do a single SKU European release, with mutliple languages accessible on a single disk.To me, it is a throw away. Yes, for us Americans, it's not as valid of an issue, but it can be valid elsewhere.
I really only look at the DVD vs. Blu-Ray formats, andmake a decision onhow it affects me as a gamer, rather than how it affects Ubisoft's cost-saving measures. If blu-ray supporters want to point at instances such as these for an excuse as to why blu-ray is necessary for this generation, then they won't catch me batting an eye.
Rockstar complained about lack of HDD. I don't recall them saying anything about having problems with DVD. As for the Assassin's Creed devs (Ubisoft Montreal), I already mentioned them. They complained about the PS3's processor and how it was making it difficult to develop Assassin's Creed for the system, and then to make things even, made a throw away complaint about X360's DVD drive. Claiming it was possible they would'nt be able to fit in all the multiple languages of audio.[QUOTE="AlwaysSoft"][QUOTE="Teufelhuhn"]
They're of course not the only ones to mention problems, either. You've had Rockstar mention issues with DVD size for GTAIV as well as Ubi with Assassin's Creed, which makes sense since free-roaming games don't have the option of multiple discs.

So a negative comment about the PS3 is perfectly valid but a negative comment about the 360 is "throwaway?" I'm sorry for simplifying your reply like this but that's really all I can make out from it.

Hmm that sounds a bit ridiculous to me. I don't know if it's an excuse or what, but there is absolutely no reason why actual game content for this gen's consoles should not be able to fit on a DVD with ease. Especially something as menial as night and day cycles.
I'm not going to argue my point too hard, because we aren't in Sytem Wars. That said, Bizarre has said they had a hard time getting all of PGR4 onto a DVD to a point where things were cut from the game.
Courtesy of Joystiq.
"You won't see different times of day per city because this involves recreating all the textures again (one for day and one for night). Whilst this wasn't a problem for our dev team, it was a problem fitting all this data onto a single DVD."

I don't doubt your assumptions, but I'm just wondering why you believe there has been any indication that DVD is not enough, or will not be enough for this generation. I've heard several people make these claims (people that tend to be on the fanboyish side), but you seem like a rational fellow.
Besides any of that, I think Blu-Ray will hurt them in the short run, but really help them in the long run. Too many developers that are working on 360 games are starting to run out of room. I don't intend to turn this into system wars, but games are getting bigger, and I don't think DVD is enough to last through this generation. It is fine for the Wii, and it is fine for linear games on the 360, but what happens when you make a sandbox sty!e game on the 360 and you run out of room. That is a bigger problem than a console 'being hard to program for', considering that not every 360 has an HDD to install to.

I've heard of devs complaining about how they won't get their multiple languages in on one DVD (Ubisoft Montreal), but nothing has ever led me to believe that actual game content could not fit on a DVD for this generation.
Everything I've heard, has pointed to the fact that the PS3 isn't even powerful enough to throw in tons of unique hi res textures that would require something bigger than DVD, without bogging down frame rates and upping load times to unmanageable levels. Not to mention that such a feat would likely require a higher budget, a longer development cycle, and more man-power than any development studio feasibly has. We'd be in the next generation by the time such a game were finished.
Blu-ray looks like it'll amount to little more than a few extra HD behind the scenes clips and many useless gigs of uncompressed multiple language audiofor this generation of games. Junk that should probably be on a seperate disc in the collector's edition to begin with.
Also, at the rate compression techniques improve, I would'nt be surprised if even most of the next generation's games require less space than a single DVD can hold.
So exactly why are so many people (fanboys?) acting as if they fear for the future of DVD-based current generation consoles?
[QUOTE="AlwaysSoft"].....And your attempts at decrying Itagaki are laughable. One "quality" game (understatement of the year for what is considered by many to not only be the best in the genre, but the best game period)? Perhaps you should also check a few review scores for the DOA series. They are highly praised games that I consider to be more fun than any other fighting game franchise around (sorry, balance issues or whatever it is some tournament players like to complain about don't bother me. As a gamer I am more concerned with how fun the game is in general. Not how balanced it may or may not be.)If you want to talk about the baseline quality of a fighting game as a fighting game, then you really should only be concerned about the balancing issues of the game, and how well it could hold up in a tournament setting. Regardless of how fun it may be for some people, the vast majority of the Mortal Kombat series is not a high quality Fighting game based on the standards of what it takes to be a high quality fighting game.He is easily more accomplished than developers like Jaffe, and in my opinion, deserves more respect than the likes of Kojima Whom is often championed assome sort of"genius" by fans of the Metal Gear series.
You may not care for his attitude, but trying to put down his works only serves to make yourself look foolish.Skylock00
So just for the record, don't mix the idea of a game being fun with a game being a high quality game within its own genre from a more objective standpoint.
Furthermore, NG may be held up by many to be a very high quality game, but the point of the matter is that Itagaki's attitude is that of someone who seems to think he is more significant in the world of gaming than he really is.
Your suggestion that he deserves more respect Kojima is flat out laughable. Not only has Kojima's career spanned a much longer time span than Itagaki, but Kojima's projects spanned a wider range of genres, and demonstrate a higher level of consistency of quality in design than Itagaki. CH is full on accurate in saying that no matter what you think, Itagaki simply does not have a string of quality games under his belt, at all, especially if held up to the likes of Kojima.
Itagaki is what he is, a designer who's simply very, very vocal and upfront about his opinions, which makes for entertaining interviews, I suppose, but I'd rather that designers talk with their games before making any other sorts of commentary.
Back to the topic at hand, I definitely agree with Taru's stance that the Santa Monica team probably should have devoted efforts moreso in making GoW2 a PS3 game from the get go, simply to demonstrate Sony's own efforts to making the system more appealing to those who fell in love with the original.
It might not have been able to make huge strides in game design, perhaps, but the game itself would have been a strong quality, would have excellent production values, and would also give fans of that genre of games a wider selection of games for the PS3 (since they would then have GoW2, Heavenly Sword, NGS, and soon to be DMC4 to satisfy their cravings for that genre).
Then again, maybe they didn't think, at the time, that they needed to do anything special/extra for the PS3 to make it more appealing? It's hard to gauge how things were going to go back in 2005, honestly.
Unfortunately, that's all in the past, and it'll be impossible to really know what would've happened. Fortunately, there are a handful of excellent looking games on the horizion in a range of genres. Between these titles, and the recent price drop, I'm sure that the PS3 is going to have a nice up turn in 2008. The only question really is, by how much?
Sorry, but as a gamer I am looking for a game that is fun. Not necessarily a game that has the best graphics, or a game that has the best sound, or a even a game that is the most ....... balanced. I don't know when the defining factor of any genre became how balanced it was, but that certainly isn't at the top of my list when judging a game's quality. How fun a game actually is, will always be the first priority on my list as a consumer, and luckily it appears to be first on the list of the journalists at GS as well, whom rated DOA4 a higher score than the ever so balanced VF5.As for Kojima, in my opinion he has only made one title on the level of Ninja Gaiden, and that was 10 years ago with the original MGS. I even question whether that is really on the same level of NG, considering I had fun with itmostly forreasons that did not include the actual gameplay, where as NG is a classic for just about nothing else other than purely it's superb gameplay.
We do agree on one thing though. His interviews are very entertaining whether you like the guy or not.
...... and back to the topic at hand. Perhaps I'm the only one that would've been disappointed had GoW2 been on PS3 using the GoW1 engine in HD. I'd much rather they spend the time required to make a true sequel to a AAA franchise like the God of War series. Putting it on the Ps3 like that just to have it on the PS3, could be seen as nothing more than a cash-in in my eyes ..... and would do irreparable damage to the series as a whole.
Not to say it would'nt still have been a solid game, but certain series have a certain level of expectation that goes with them ... and GoW2 in HD would not have been a very revolutionary next gen title in my eyes. Just as San Andreas in HD, calling it GTA4, would not have made a very satisfying next gen title to those that are expecting something much more moving to brand new hardware on a series with high expectations.
The fact that it was a new director, coming out with a sequel less than 2 years after the original ..... well I'm just happy it turned out good at all.
