@Leonagard: look, it's always the same: actual audience of Diablo 3 celebrates, in fact, all what they have casualized respect Diablo 2, especially the end of a skill system that is what RPG means. It's OK, if they made that choice, is because they knew that most of the people are casual, and they target that audience. But don't name it ARPG please.
I condemned Fallout 3 because that "3" that have destroyed the saga (even loving that game, in fact, is my avatar). Blizzard could have done exactly the same with a new franchise that surely would be successful as all their new ones (Overwatch, Heartstone, HotS...), they could make a "Diablo Online" as World of Warcraft, they didn't made a "Warcraft 4". The problem with Diablo 3 is that "3" that has destroyed the saga.
You can enjoy it, but is not more a Diablo game, Diablo was a saga that makes another ARPGs "Diablo-like", today diablo-like is an insult to Path of Exile or Grim Dawn, that is the crime that has divided our community.
@joshrmeyer: like Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Quake, Doom, Duke Nukem, Diablo, Might and Magic sagas, Civilization, Total War, Warhammer, Tomb Raider, Warcraft, Starcraft, Age of Empires, Counter Strike, Ultima, The Sims, The Witcher... (and I could continue writting a book of games born on PC, some ported, some never ported to consoles).
Look, search any list of PC games, and then, any list of console games, there are more PC games than all console games from all branch put together, understand?
@joshrmeyer: There are more PC market than the top-tier hardware points, I play Pillars of Eternity, Grim Dawn, Darkest kungeon... and still playing Diablo 2 or Arcanum with mods. An office PC can handle most games including retro and indies. The quantity of PC players is higher than the top-tier hardware sold. While in consoles is what you see.
@shortmaneighty2: PS2 160M, PS3 80M, don't count PS4 if you want (even knowing that its strong sales has past), clearly from PS2 to 3 the community had diminished in a half. And with 60M of PS4, today, PlayStation community is exactly a third.
@Furwings: I never bought a pre-built brand, is a scam, read the article, the sales came from gaming oriented hardware, so Facebook don't count (that is software).
@Furwings: There are more than 700 million PC gamer today, and growing. PS2 was the best selling console of all times with 160 million, PS3 had 80 million (the half) today PS4 has 60 million (a third), clearly console community is dissolving.
@joshrmeyer: your NES is an electronic device, one certain thing is that one day it will fail, as any electronic device in this world, and that day what? buy another NES used? that is your idea? durability is not the same PC from 80s, is to be able the same game from 80s in your new PC, and with mods.
For example, I couldn't still playing Arcanum in a 2002's device (PC or console, I won't play a that speed today), but I can still playing it on my new PC, every day, and with widescreen mods that makes it playable in new monitors.
In open devices you have all controls, also all old consoles, and mods. That is the difference, you are afraid to the possibilities, you seems to need to be controlled by 1 enterprise.
ps: 60 million people is nothing, a single game on PC has 100 million people, not counting the rest of the games, stop the delusion about consoles being the center of the entertainment, that is from the past century, today is PC and phones, open systems.
@maximimon:I don't know, PS2 sold 160 million units, PS3 sold 80 million, while PS4 barely reach 60 million (source), there are a reduction in your community in two thirds, console community is dissolving, while there are more than 711 millons of PC for gaming in the world, more than all consoles together, and growing... tell me you.
@joshrmeyer: emm... durability in time? being able to play the beloved games from your childhood in a single click? bigger community? mods? the real question is why do you want a dedicated device that makes things harder to you.
We are in XXI century, all is PC and mobile, and consoles are almost PCs that does few, expensive, and for short time, so, for the few console players left, please, can you evolve to open systems? When games will be in all devices, cheaper, and forever (even with mods), the whole gaming community will thank you.
