Uhmm...can I get some of what this joke is smoking? 'Cause the hallucinations he's having are AWESOME. A 1st party Developer/Publisher going multi-platform as a 3rd party Dev./Pub. will do nothing but destroy said company.
@voljin1987 On one hand, it sucks. On the other hand, it makes TOTAL sense. Let's use...Epic Mickey 1 & 2 AS an example:
Epic Mickey ships to Japan and N.A., Europe is several months late for X reasons. It ships on a console without region lock. What happens?
Much of Europe speaks English, to they Import the N.A. version. N.A. retail sales skyrockets. Eventually the Epic Mickey is released in Europe. It...doesn't sell too well, as many gamers already got the N.A. game.
Epic Mickey 2 is released!
Japan gets it along with N.A., as those regions saw phenomenal sales. Europe gets skipped because they didn't buy enough of the first game. Sure, they can still Import-Ho!, but it COMPLETELY screws-up with the Publishers ability to figure-out where their product is really selling so they know where to market.
A secondary issue is legal/cultural ramifications. Some things just don't translate well, and other things need to be adjusted to fall in line with varied laws from various countries (and no, I am not referring to the Donal Duck/Pants myth).
The BEST option, however, is to leave it up to the Publishers, like Cave did with Mushihime-sama Futari on the 360.
Pivotal yes, but not for the reasons listed. This will not only be the generation that decides between consoles & iGames (or if a Happy Medium is truly possible), but will also the generation that decides if gamers are REALLY stupid enough to put up with Console Makers & Publishers inane (and borderline illegal) antics any further.
Considering that most independent economists (those not affiliated with the financial and/or banking industry) are foretelling a major slide in the next five years...sales won't have anything to do with this generation beyond "Can we still make a profit at this?".
@HonorOfGod @Nxss-effa-sim At this point, I hope the entire industry crashes and burns. Just so something decent might rise from the ashes in a decade or so.
