Yeah, I know there are districts. That doesn't mean that there aren't "massive" numbers of players available. I consider 100 to be pretty massive. Furthermore, the term massive is completely subjective. There is no way to quantify "massive".
Anyways... So, a game can only be an MMO if there are a large quantity of players available at all times of game play? What is the player count for something to be considered "massive"? According to wikipedia an MMO must have a persistent world. So, if you have 2,000 players all playing at once, but not in a persistent world, then it's not an MMO.
Personally, I hate the whole "this is an MMO, this isn't an MMO" BS. To me. there are "massive" number of users logged on. I play with users in multuiplayer. It passes the test. If people really want to nitpick and say "this is and this isn't" an MMO based on some loose guidelines that never existed and validated through group think, then fine. But, chew on this: Neverwinter Nights, which was released in 1991, was one of the first MMORPGs (actually, the first graphical MMORPG) and it only had a server capacity of 50 players.
