Sony put out too many new pieces of hardware in a short period of time. They should have dropped the slim, just put out the ps4pro at 300. Alternately they should have put out the slim, but then held back the pro and upped the specs once they got wind of the scorpio. No way did Sony not know about the scorpio early. People talk, particularly suppliers, they might do it off the record but they do. My biggest concern about the scorpio...is that its going to upend the cycle, much more so than the pro. If we end up getting third party games that run like garbage on the base consoles but run decently on pro and scorpio then its going to create a weird cycle. I wasnt happy with the concept of the pro for the same reason, but if they have to make games that scale to different hardware....then stability on the base consoles hinders the upgrades.....i just think this is all a dumb idea. These consoles came out in 2013, just hold off and launch new consoles in 2019. or 2018. Make them backwards compatible (which due to the way the consoles are built now shouldnt be a problem going forward) and move the **** on.
@joshrmeyer: it doesnt outperform a base ps4. And a base ps4, thanks to a software update does HDR. It doesnt output 4k, but a xb1 s cant out put games to 4k anyway (not that any game on consoles is 4k in the first place).
@e3man01: What? The PS4 has pro modes for a bunch of games. I havent seen anyone run performance improvements, but new models of systems even smaller improvements always occur. Late model ps3 were actually slightly stronger than the ones at launch. part of it is refinement and newer chips. The PS4 is a stronger system, in no way is it worse than the original. It is more powerful. It runs games designed for it with better frame rates or various other features. In what way is an x1 s a better piece of hardware. It is comparatively a weaker system. Hell, an x1 S is still weaker than a launch ps4.
@jenovaschilld: why would they lower the ps+ price. its 60 bucks a year. Thats 5 bucks a month. Its also what xbox charges. That 10 dollars would be a decisive factor for someone picking between xbox and ps? The slim has dropped in price compared to launch of the console. Pro just came out, and id expect a price drop by fall of next year. Dropping prices for the hell of it isnt something companies do, they watch sales velocity. We have already seen that bundles are where they are making moves. You dont get a price drop, but you get a few tripple AAA games packed in. I bought my ps4 last summer. It was still 400, but i got Arkham Knight and Witcher 3 packed in, while bother were still retailing for 60.
@sleepnsurf: ....no. Its a great fighter, it just launched without the features non competitve players wanted. Games are judged as console exclusives. Your logic makes no sense that its determined who gets the money. So in terms of console sales is Sony competing withitself? Seeing as how they get a percentage of sales for every Xbox1 sold since they invented blu ray. No that is ridiculous. Comparing the two consoles means looking at home console exclusives.
@caseyrybek: That game is exactly what all the previews showed it to be. The fals ad claims were dismissed. The game isnt a disaster. You just bought into the hype.
@e3man01: meh. The PRO is a stonger piece of hardware. I can see why people want 4k blu rays....but i dont, i havent bothered upgrading my dvds to blu rays (though i buy blu rays for the movies i get now). So how i the S a better piece of hardware? Ill agree that it looks better than the pro. But how else is it better? It has worse technical specs than the ps4slim, other than 4k video output. So the same game played on a ps4slim (or launch model for that matter) is still going to look better than on the S.
@kyelo: but the japanese home console market is shrinking. Europe is a big market in general. China, Japan, SK, maybe a bigger gaming market, but not for consoles. The numbers matter as how much ms is winning in sales in the us monthly, because it looks likes its not by much. And sony had greater sales in november. As far as consoles go, US is the dominant home console market.
