[QUOTE="ben_dover_aus_b"]Hi all, just need some help with something, as you probably already know from my nick name I am from Aus, and we do have a long but worth it wait, I was just wondering if I should get this TV? It's a 44 cm HD plasma and it's brand is Hicon, It's fairl cheap from a plasma, it isnt to big but it is very good for me, for when I get my PS3, it is valued at around $ 500 Aus doller's, wich would be around 250-30 american $$. Do you think I should get it? It's a great price. A 44 CM HDTV, TV, brand name, HICON? Anyhelp would be gladly appreciated...? Or does anyone else know of any better deals etc? And BTW It's a Widscreen I think...ben_dover_aus_b
Could someone please answer/help me with my question..??

No definitely do not get that set.

True, there are plenty of sets, but none of them are "good". They all fall into the budget category, unless one is looking for a very small set. The cheapest HDTV I recommend to family/friends is the simple Sony CRT line. Anything cheaper sacrifices performance.

[QUOTE="Aaron10"]

I have 3 questions.

1)Does an HDTV that support 1080p will also support 1080i ? I am getting confused what is the best for the PS3.

2)There is a big difference in the prize between 1080p and 1080i?

3)Will another type of format that is better be available in less than a year?

Thanks in advance!

CowboySpike381

1) Yes, 1080p would be better also unless the screen is 40" or less, than they would look almost identical 2) I assume you mean price? In which case yes, a good 1080p HDTV would cost no less than $2,000 while a 1080i would be more around $1,000 3) No, 1080p is the only True HD format currently know

A good 1080i set will be about $1000 exactly since it will most likely be a CRT set, and there is no reason to buy anything but a Sony CRT. Please do not use the term trueHD again as it is purely a marketing gimmick. 720p,1080i, and 1080p are all just high definition formats. None of them are more "true" than the others.

No, that will most likely be a huge mess. Just do a component video to vga converter and you would be better. Converting a digital signal like that would not be good.

since I'll be using an HDMI to DVI connector, how am I suppose to get sound though?sniper_99
plug the optical out of the ps3 into your receiver. Else, any decent television, or in your case monitor, will have audio inputs alongside one of the HDMI inputs. Therefore, plug the cable that came with the ps3 into the system, and plug the red and white cables into the television alongside the DVI input. But listening to anything through tv speakers is truly sad.

Ok guys, here's a weird one for you. I have a 42in Panasonic Plasma TV.

The model is the 42PX6U, (Costco's version of the 42PX60U) Heres a link:
http://www.pricemad.com/productdetail.asp?level=&catid=0&productid=6505

As you can see, this TV has resoluions of: 480p/i, 720p, 1080i. I am connecting my PS3 to the TV through a Monster Ultra 600 HDMI cable.

When I first booted my PS3, it said it detected a new HDMI device, and would auto detect my best resolution. Once it finished its stuff, it said the optimum resolution was 1080p. Thinking this was a fluke, I checked what my television said it was recieving, and my television also said 1080p. I know that my TV does not support 1080p, so why are both the playstation 3 and my TV saying it is being displayed at 1080p? Is it bad to run it in this setting? I put it down to 720p, and it seemed to look the same, so do you think somehow the PS3 is just fooling the TV, and it is indeed in 720p?

Another thing to note is that whenever I start up a game (Resistance, Fall of Man in particular) the television blinks a few times, and then is in 720p. It only seems to stay in "1080p" while in the PS3's menu.

Also, do other people think that the sample Blue-Ray movie that came with the PS3 is not that impressive, or is it my TV? I watch HDTV (Mainly Sports and CSI) and I think the quality is far superior to this first Blue-Ray movie that I watched. I am going to pick up some other movies to see if its just the movie, but I was honestly very dissapointed.

Thanks guys, any help at all would be greatly appreciated

That set can actually take 1080p in, but obviously does not have the pixels to display it. If you run the NBA 07 demo, it would most likely remain in 1080p for the entire demo. So your tv is taking in 1080p content and then scaling it to its native resolution. Your set is a great budget plasma, and you should be very happy. As far as Talladega Nights goes, it is not the "ultimate" in BD performance. There were some scenes with great textures and clarity, but there were also some grainy scenes that left a lot to be desired. To date, the best BD disc is MI:III, which blows most of the competition out of the water. However, HD signals over cable are rather lossy and compressed and should not be anywhere near the quality of any BD disc, even Talladega nights.

hey..can anyone tell me if this tv is good for playing ps3?the links http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11098479&whse=BC&topnav=&browse=&s=1. my cousins says its crap..nd hes rele good at tvs and electtonics and crap but i mean its cheap, got hdmi, and a resolution of 1080p..and is all that for only $1500...also 42 in.(Sceptre 42" LCD HDTV)...yea its lcd also...so all that stuff is great rite for ps3?

o nd...can someone tell me if its native resolution is 1080p or sumthing else...cause it doesnt say..cause i know if its like nativ is 720p but supports 1080p then the image isnt as good..cause all it says is supports 1080p...so can someone look that up or something for me?u can prob just tell by clickin that link..idk

thanks

toyoarmy

It has 1920x1080 native resolution and supports up to 1080p(480i/480p/720p/1080i/1080p)

Crap or not...its up to you. ( few hundreds more, you can get top-end products, on ebay or online dealers, simply check "s4095d" on ebay)

Then you get to deal with horrible overscan. All of the high end 1080p lcds have problems right now. The sammy has nasty overscan and a significant problem with greens. The Sharps have banding issues that make the sets unwatchable (although Sharp is replacing every bad set for free), and the XBR2/3 & KDL-40/46V2500 have a cloudy backlight issue that is just being understood by Sony. The Sharp 42inch set is nowhere near as good in performance as its larger brothers, so I think that the XBR2 or V2500 are the best bets at the size currently.

Well...you know it was just for someone not just like you.

Every product has some problems, not perfect. for example 40V2500/46V2500 had some converting problems with 720p to 1080p, and XBR2 got new DRC version2.5 engine but theres still same problems (when pictures change fast, it displays with 1/4 conversion 1st(just like JP technics), and then it displays completed conversion later, most ppl can't even notice about it, you can see if you got experts-grade eyes, once you find this, you can find it every where in the picture while its fast moving)

and I agree with your choice now, but samsung is almost there right now, nobody knows next year8)

Jesus, did you just write that while drunk? That was an incoherent run-on mess that I am not even going to try and read through a second time to figure out
