The concept of a Japanese developer creating a game based on The Elder Scrolls era of Western RPGs interested me to no end, and the final product is indeed a really unique and satisfying hybrid of a lot of different elements. Like the reviewer here says, you'll get some good whiffs of the Souls games, Monster Hunter, Lost Planet 2, and Elder Scrolls while playing, but even with all these influences, the collective product comes off as something really unique, and unlike any RPG game I've played to date.

It does have it's issues and strange design choices, but I've personally been ridiculously hooked to the game since it's release. The pawn system is a really cool concept, but a co-op mode of some kind would really be awesome I think.

I think i would have given it an extra half a point, but this is a really good review of the game in my opinion.

Great. There goes any hope for a sequel to Eternal Darkness.

The Cyberpunk Pen and paper game has a lot of great concepts and details for this dev to bring to life, and based on what I've seen in the 2 Witcher games, I can't imagine it being anything less than awesome. Very interested and excited.

@williebazerka Agreed. The game as it was needed some tweaking here and there, but I had a lot of fun with it personally and seen a lot of promise in both franchise and the developer.

@Mr_BillGates Speak for yourself. Apparently not everyone thought the first game as "an abysmal" like you did.

@EKGProd I'm the same way with FPS games for some reason. It's like sex. Even when it's really bad, it's still enjoyable.

@megakick After Ninja Gaiden 3, I personally wouldn't recommend anyone taking a cue from Team Ninja as they are now.

@Ravenshout A lot of games get additional content and patches. It doesn't necessarily mean I personally want to go back to them either if the core product wasn't special to me. Just saying.

This game absolutely deserves all the good press and sales. I've played a hell of a lot of them, and Max Payne 3 is definitely one of the best traditional action game experiences I've had, across the board. I have a feeling Rockstar is just going to keep the game alive with Multiplayer DLC, which is really sad, as the game and the story line is just begging for some additional flashback stages, or a side job as single player adds ons.
