@001011000101101 The story and settings are after thoughts really, and yeah, really generic for the most part. Some of the monster designs are pretty neat though, even if they are a little WoWtastic.
Also, the systems in place for backstabbing, sneaking, stealing, etc. feel like the devs put them in because they felt they needed to. Same thing with weapon and armor durability. I think if they had a chance to do a sequel, they could really make something awesome. Bottom line though, if you are into looting, questing, and leveling up, I couldn't reccomend KoA: Reckoning more. Couple that with a really great combat system that goes above what you would expect for a action rpg game like this.
Spot on review. I've played to chapter 5 so far, and it's really impressive how the game melds it's more cinematic aspects directly into the action. The overall direction of the game collectively is really sharp as well, but it's no surprise since it's usually one of the things the developer is known for.
As the reviewer here said, it is pretty sublime how they make the character seem more vulnerable through the actual gameplay under the weight of evreything that haunts him, yet the badass still comes out. It's somewhat like Snake in the last Metal Gear Solid, if that makes sense.
I purchased the full game as well, and honestly don't think a lot of the universal dissatisfaction for it is totally warranted. The game isn't without it's faults obviously, but for ten bucks it's a very cute and charming nod to Fable franchise and has a heck of a lot of personality crammed into it.
