I may be getting a new computer. I'm the type of guy that likes to do work and store stuff like photos on my computer, but I like to play games. What is the best out there for me? (Disregard prices. I'll figure that stuff out later.)

Just get some parts.......... or you could give us your budget and we could make a part list for you. Just pay someone 50 bucks to assemble all of them and viola.... You end up with something much better in performance and value.

I would prefer store-built.

Alienware is pretty reliable. I also think they look the best too. For $1250.00 you can get a Alienware x51 with i7 3770 and a gtx 555 gpu. That should be able to do what you want. Then if you want to upgrade later you could buy a gtx 660 ti gpu.

I dont know what you budget is but that computer would be awesome for photoshop and gaming. Alienware also makes so good expensive computers. Like some that are 6 grand I think.

Just forget his post.... His fanboyishness is gonna destroy everything.....

Its just not very cost effective for the enthusiast that wants to maximize performance/dollar ratio .Building a computer is relatively easy though, and its all a matter of just selecting the right components.

The only reason someone could ever justify an X51 is if they are in the market for something small & sleek looking that will offer them an okay gaming experience & don't really mind forking up the extra cash.

I was wondering why it is that all of you love to hate on this machine so much? I mean I will outright admit I am no computer expert and could never, ever piece and part a PC together. However, from a laymens view point, the Alienware X51 seems to be a very good set up for some great PC gaming. The only true "weakness" I see would be the 330 watt PSU. The only reason i say that is from everything I hear you all say about you guys owning 650 watt or higher CPU's! So please enlighten me from a non PC snob/Alienware hater viewpoint why the X51 is just so simply horrible?ShoTTyMcNaDeS
Moving from a console to pc gaming in a very small packagae. But outright expensive....

If the laptop has a VGA port then just plug it in and turn it on. Most laptops will default to an external monitor at startup if you have one plugged in.famicommander
This. Or if it doesnt just press the display change button. Mostly located on the function buttons. U will need to press fn key to use that i believe.

I installed an Accelero Twin Turbo Pro on my 560 today and it was keeping temps below 60c. I played GTA4 for a half hour, quit, and noticed Precision X and Hardware Monitor said the GPU was at 100c with fans at 100%. I instantly shut down and took it out. I re-applied thermal paste, installed it again, and my temps were stilll horrible. I just put the stock cooler back on, thinking the aftermarket cooler was at fault, and temps are just as bad. Is there something wrong with my GPU? Could the temperature reader have failed?

Hey, I'm looking for some pc game controllers to buy. I pretty much just want it to be comfortable, sturdy and not lacking in any way compared to a kb&m.

What would you recommend?

Shottayouth13-
Just get the xbox 360 controller or the razer xbox 360 controller......

I would recommend a GTX 670 because it has very good value for your money. It's a very powerful card, and it runs cool and quiet, and also doesn't use much electricity. If you want to spend more money, go ahead and get either a 680 or 690. But the 690 costs almost £1,000! I would steer well clear from it until the price go down.

I'm a GTX 670 owner and I can play Crysis at 1360x768 with everything maxed out and it runs at 35fps to 60fps depending on situations. Very happy with it. I know my resolution is low as I'm using my Sony Bravia HDTV. I think I'm getting a good 27" monitor at Christmas, and it will be all good.

*Edit* Oh, and you should upgrade your CPU. It could be a bottleneck.

Ho ho ho. tell him to wait for the 660/660 tis if you want to talk about value for money. A 670 is better only when compared to the premium on a 680.

Hello.

Im going to be buying a computer soon in order to play some basic games, and when i say basic I mean like WoW and The Sims/Sim City and RTS's. Basically simple, lighthearted games I cannot play on my xbox and just pick up and play games not intense shoot em ups etc.

Im going to be buying one with an I3 2120 in it which as we know, has intel HD 2000 graphics built in.

Will this processor run WoW and these other pretty basic games? And what is the Intel HD 2000? Are they built into the processor so I wont need a graphics card for them? Maybe im being stupid but im certain I seen benchmarks of these onboard graphics running some games quite well, though I cannot seem to find any benchmarks now.

If I do go and buy a dedicated graphics card would it work along side these onboard graphics so that they help each other out or will putting in a dedicated graphics card completely remove the computing power of the HD 2000 graphics?

Sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance.

Galantina
Just buy an i3-2100 (what i have) And get an amd hd 7750. There is no need to spend more to get the 2120?

I tried that and the detect your gpu thingy too. It says you dont have a compatible nvidia product. :( have u observerd the 128 bit thing on my spec and not 256. I think thats giving me problems with the drivers. This nvidia driver wont work. It says no compatible hardware found.
