Truncated Gaming

Guy's game night was cut short yesterday by a baby product run.

Now we have diapers and a diaper pail for the approaching child. Between now and November we just need to pick up a few other things. Between now and November, I'll probably have one or two game nights.

Ubisoft's future

Ubisoft buyout by . . . Redwood Shores corporation likely.

If I were betting man. . I just might stack my money on the green 00 named Larry Ellison. Yeah you heard me. The Oracle mogel is my pick for a hostile bid for the french game company. This is his perfect time to divest his interests as he consolidates his focus on outpacing enterprise software giant SAP.

Larry is just crazy enough to do that.

Late night tonight

5:00 pm and work is just starting.

I'll be here until who knows when. and then I start my school work. I have studying tomorrow and maybe some gaming. Otherwise, I am studying until all hours of the night.

Someday I'll get to game again.

I Never Win

But I won today!!!

Who would have thought the Velvet Underground would yield such great fruits? What is now classic rock has provided some very real and very new sounds.

Now I can watch Advent Children before the advent of my own child.

Thank you GameSpot!

Tokyo Games Show 2005

I can't believe how incredible the games shown at TGS were/are. Metal Gear Solid 4 looks spectacular. Over the last year I have been getting an inkling of the mania which surrounds the MGS series. Back in 2001 I had a coworker who sang MGS's praises. I never got into MGS, and still haven't because of the M rating.

Nevertheless the intricate, revolving, and generally tight presentation of MGS has been a draw for the last year. Perhaps after school (three years from now) I will have time to sit down and go through the MGS story with all five of the titles (assuming MGS5 will be released by the time I finish the first four.

Speaking of other games that were a highlight from TGS:
Okami
Shadow of the Colossus

I was disappointed the Final Fantasy Compilation titles didn't have more exposure at the show.

Magic Man

At level 16 on Gamespot you become a Magician Lord. I wonder, is that white magic, red magic, black magic, or summoning?

Also magical was the revelation of the revolution controller. At first I thought, Iwata was bonkers. As I have pondered over the usability decisions and the sentiments that have been shared by non-gaming friends of mine, it might be valid. This is an enormous gambit for Nintendo. I don't want to see them end up like Sega: relegated to managing intellectual game properties because they couldn't make their consoles work.

In the past my attempts at using a remote control, specifically for a DVD player, have not been really engaging as an input device for gaming. Perhaps time with the Revolution controller will be more accommodating. Plus, I can't imagine the stick would be particularly ergonomic. Nevertheless, I actually liked the thumbstick add-on. It would be especially effective with a button on the underside of that left-hand device.

Speaking of hands, the Revolution's controller would even work for south paw's! So I could, conceivably hold the thumbstick with my right hand and the remote with the left. Ah, the genius is really starting to distill now.

My Final Fantasy

My first experience with Final Fantasy was back in 1991. One of my buddies had the SNES version of FFII. UNfortunately I summarily dismissed it.

The scope of the Fintal Fantasy games never hit me upon first seeing them. There was one time I created my own FFVII profile on a buddy's Playstation when I was only going to be there a day. Foolish me! When I went back to college in 1998, after my two-year hiatus, I got wrapped up in FFVII. I was hooked. When I escaped a relationship by delving completely into the depths of both FFVII and Zelda: OOT, I knew there was no escape for me.

For some reason, probably since I only played the demo, I never got into FFVIII. But after College I was all over FFIX. So much for 100 hours and my disposable time and income. That really helped get over a nasty breakup too.

Y'know, I think FFX helped me during a turbulent relationship as well.

Since I never got into FFXI, I got married. Now I am living my fantasy. . . ah.
