How big is the PS4's hard-drive?

GamingGod999
Good question. I'm looking at the official pictures and can't tell if this hard drive is replaceable. That being said, if it doesn't require game installs like xbox then 500gb should do the trick (I have 122 games on my PS3 and about 3,000 songs and my 500gb hard drive is maxed out.

Sony clearly won the battle with Microsoft today. The only downer was a required PS+ membership for online play but for someone that's been a PS+ subscriber nearly since the beginning I don't see this as a huge blow provided the free games and amazing discounts don't disappear. If you're a heavy user like me, you'll make that $50 back in discounts on DLC/games before you'll make it back on the hundreds of dollars worth of free games they give you. That being said, the PS4 is better hardware and is less expensive than the xbox one, won't require online check-ins to authenticate games, and won't interfere with game sharing or used game sales. The best part is Microsoft worked so hard to win gamers with the 360, and they are working so much harder to win them for the PS4.

Thoughts/Questions after today's reveal:

  1. 500GB hard drive that is not removable. What happens if this hard drive fails?
  2. 500GB hard drive is not big enough. I have this in my PS3 right now and with just over 100 titles (thank you PS+) and a good chunk of music I have 17GB left. The problem is the Xbox1 will install ALL games onto the hard drive. That means if an average next gen game is 10gb you'll only have 50 games on there before you run out of space. Then we have to start to think about how much space patches, DLC, and other content will take up. Add this to my first point and I see a lot of xbox owners buying an external HDD if they are heavy users.
  3. If all games have to be installed how quick will this process be?
  4. Used game fees will make this a more expensive console to own and will prevent gamers from experiencing games they weren't so sure about.
  5. XBox1 will require a daily internet connection according to Kotaku. This means the $60 or more game you just bought and can't freely share with your friends will also require you to pay for an internet connection to play. Sounds like MS and developers see their customers as pirates, which is odd since PC piracy is a much bigger issue than console piracy.
  6. The controller has been slightly redesigned, but I think Sony's dualshock with the new touchpad will have a bigger advantage.
  7. Microsoft is very concerned about being a competitor in the TV market, why? TV didn't make them popular to begin with.
  8. Xbox1 requires Kinect to function. Sounds like the new xbox requires a lot of things to function.
  9. The name stinks.
  10. Sony will have to get the attention of disenfranchised xbox gamers at E3. MS just missed an easy slam dunk and the ball is now in Sony's court.

for me it wasn't so much the expense it was the not knowing whether or not a game would perform properly that made me switch to consoles. Got tired of buying games that were quickly out growing my computer's abilities.

Contrary to the popular and everlasting prophecy that PC gaming is dying chronically, Crytek's CEO Cevat Yerli believes that console are the real dying breed.

?The console will displace the PC, you hear it again and again. On the contrary, I suspect that the next-generation of home consoles will be the last one,?Yerli told German siteGolem.

?Of course there are still hardcore gamers who sit for an hour to install and then play for eight hours. But these consumers are becoming the minority. Today's gamers buy a game for 99 cents, download it and play it for 15 to 20 minutes per day over a period of two months - and then they move on.?

Yerli also confirmed that Crytek already has a Wii U version of its famous CryEngine and that its licensees are already creating games for the upcoming Nintendo console. However, he affirmed that Crytek has no intention to develop any games for Wii U or PlayStation Vita.

?The Playstation Vita is currently too uncertain for us as a platform?he explained.?Technically, I find the Vita very appealing, and have fun with it - no question. From a business perspective it is a bit too late.?

Uhhhhh no. I know way too many people that have put 100+ hours into skyrim, Call of Duty, or some other console game. Hell I've put a lot of hours into crysis too! The reason why mobile games do so well is cuz many of them are a dollar but in all honesty most of them are just a waste of money. The only ipad/iphone games I've enjoyed were GTA 3 (for nostalgia reasons), Osmos, and Galaxy on Fire.

So it turns out WiiU looks terrible...lmao what did people think would happen?

UNcartMe
I think it looks alright but it's just not my thing. Of course people will buy a bazillion of them just because they own a Wii lol.

[QUOTE="Jrfanfreak88"][QUOTE="goblaa"]

Well, like the wiiu gamepad, the vita doesn't have any games to play on the go. :P

LegatoSkyheart

I've already got 8 games for mine and once MGS: HD collection comes out I won't need anymore for my Vita ;) Seriously though, my vita made a 6 hour car trip feel like 2 thanks to some intense rounds of Hot Shots Golf.

6? I barely have 3 Vita Games.

What do you have?

Hot Shots Golf, RayMan Origins, Wipeout, Super Stardust, Uncharted, Motorstorm RC, and then I have two PSP games on there, Gran Turismo and LittleBigPlanet. I include these in my game count because I've actually played them far more on my Vita then I ever did on my piece of junk PSP. Gran Turismo on the vita is SO much better just because of the real analog sticks.

Although I think the WiiU is definitely similar, I've never been a fan of the type of games found on the Nintendo. I'd play Gears, GT5, Heavy Rain, God of War, Halo, MGS4, and many others before I'd touch Mario, Zelda, Metroid, and whatever else is on the Wii. Is that because nintendo is what I grew up with and playing it makes me feel like I'm back in elementary school? Maybe. But, I am also a racing gamer and there's nothing on the Wii that will compete with iracing, GT5, or Forza.

Playing Nintendo games makes you feel like you're back in elementary school? ... :?

Yeah I mean that's what I played growing up so when I play a nintendo game it feels like I've gone back 20 years. I mean when I play Super Mario Brothers Wii it doesn't seem like the tone or feel of the game has changed at all from when I played it. Sure, the graphics are updated and all but I feel like I'm playing a kids game. I'm not saying that's really a bad thing either, because the games are enjoyable, but I love the mature titles like Heavy Rain, MGS4 or God of War. I dunno, just haven't played a Nintendo game that I felt raised the bar for me as a gamer compared to what I have already experienced.
