I've fixed the list, but many of you are so ignorant on Nights >>>> Godzilla. It won't be like that. Nights is being handled by the idiots from Sega. This game is barely getting a year of development. The only reason Nights is being hyped is because of the loud-mouthed 10 people who actually bought the game, plus the people who agree Nights is an awesome franchise only because of what they've heard.

Godzilla has recieved more development time, is pushing the hardware more and are by more talented people. Fact.

Optusnet

I hope you're wrong about the NiGHTS thing, since I did play the original game (lol to "the 10 people who played it", because that's pretty much true).

Hopefully Godzilla will be good, but who knows? I couldn't care either way. There are other games holding my attention.

[QUOTE="Hammerofjustice"]Halo isnt in there, neither is gears of war, this thread fails.Flame1

These are actual sales figures, idiot!

Halo and GoW aren't in there because they didn't sell enough....

where do you get the sales numbers? not flaming, just wondering.

As I said, at the top of the post:

Gameinformer magazine collected market numbers in their April 2007 Issue 168. These numbers are UP TO DATE, by the way, so they include Halo (though to include GoW wouldn't be fair because it's only been out for a little while)

Okay, here is a list of sales for games and franchises worldwide, gotten from GameInformer Magazine (who got it from the distributors) April 2007 Issue 168: (for those who care)

Top Franchises(rounded up to nearest Million)

1 - Mario: 193 Mil (Nintendo)

2 - Pokemon: 155 Mil (Nintendo)

3 - Final Fantasy: 70 Mil (Sony and Nintendo)

4 - Madden NFL: 56 Mil (Multi)

5 - GTA: 55 Mil (Multi)

6 - The Sims: 54 Mil (Multi; mainly PC, though)

7 - The Legend of Zelda: 49 Mil (Nintendo)

8 - Donkey Kong: 48 Mil (Nintendo)

9 - Sonic the Hedgehog: 44 (Mulit; though mainly on Nintendo, now)

10 - Gran Turismo: 44 (Sony[?])

11 - Lineage: 43 (PC[?])

12 - Dragon Quest: 40 (Nintendo)

13 - Crash Bandicoor: 34 (Sony[?])

14 - Resident Evil: 31 (Multi; mostly Sony)

15 - James Bond: 30 (multi)

16 - Tomb Raider: 30 (Multi; mostly Sony)

17 - Tekken:29 (Sony)

18 - Mega Man: 26 (Mutli; mostly Nintendo)

19 - Street Fighter: 25 (Multi; mostly Nintendo)

20 - Command & Conquer: 25 (PC)

Top games Sold (rounded up to nearest Million)

1 - Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES - 18 Mil)

2 - The Sims (PC - 16 mil)

3 - Diablo II (PC - 15 mil)

4 - Super Mario Land (Game Boy - 14 Mil)

5 - GTA: San Andreas (PS2, XBOX - 14 Mil)

6 - GTA: Vice city (PS2 - 13 Mil)

7 - Super Mario 64 (N64 - 11 Mil)

8 - Gran Turismo 3 (PS2 - 11 mil)

9 - GTA III (PS2 - 11 Mil)

10 - Gran Turismo (PSOne - 11 Mil)

These numbers are all to date.

Now, I know that people will cry, "Sales don't matter!" and all that crap, but if you look at the game list, there is only ONE XBOX game on there (and it's a multiplatform :?).

Sony has a huge chunk in there with 5 top games, 3 exclusive franchises, and 9 top shared franchises. Pretty nice!

Nintendo is in the lead with 3 top games (and #1 with Super Mario 3), 5 exclusive franchises (the top two both ahead by a HUGE margin), and 13 shared franchises.

XBOX has zero exclusive top games, zero exclusive franchises, and the only top franchise games they have are multiplat. Case in point, even Sony has a stronger franchise lineup than Microsoft.

Don't hate the messenger. Hate the market. Numbers don't lie.

[QUOTE="Gears360"]HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA

the miis and "multimedia (cannot play DVDs, but can show pictures and play music[?])" are next gen features??????
wireless controllers next gen ????

i just exploded of laughter :lol:Maelkav

I'm glad that you got your jollies out of it. :?

Apparently, you didn't read the definition of next gen.

By the way, your beloved 360 uses wireless controllers.

edit: @FoamingPanda - just because it "doesn't make sense" doesn't mean its "last gen, crap hardware, etc. etc."

PS1 used CD's like the Sega Saturn and Sega CD (which flopped, overall). It would have "made sense" that PS would imitate the N64 and use cartridges.

But the fact is, the Wii uses the same architechture as the Gamecube (why do you think it directly plays GC games?). Lazy_Boy88

Um...nice argument. Proof?

"The PS2 uses suped-up PS1 hardware because it plays PS1 games."

 Yeah, where's the logic there?

Fallout 2 most definitely.. Another gem from Black Isle.. The best game i ever played and it never got the attention it deserved.. Chofee

I disagree. It was am amazing game, don't get me wrong, but Fallout 2 was a highly-praised crown jewel of Black Isle. Not overrated, but not underrated either.

[QUOTE="Maelkav"][QUOTE="FoamingPanda"]

A console should be considered little more than a machine that processes software.  Therefore, I perfer a practical and direct interpretation of the term "next-gen."  Next-gen simply means that a machine utilizes the most powerful and cost effective hardware to date, and gives game developers the most cost-effective and widest range of programmable options; so that the developer might make any game that comes into their minds.

All other parts of a console amount to little more than fun little add-ons that should not be factored into how well a console achieves its primary function (processing gaming software).

Today, when USB 2.0 devices function on e-machine grade computers, a consoles' form of input should not be praised or criticized to any extent (all input devices should simply be USB devices and work on all consoles).  The fact we're still forced to play with one style of controller per console absolutely sickens me.

Therefore, we can judge current-gen consoles by how well they accomplish their primary functions.  All consoles fall quite short of what could possibility be done if the industry operated like any other aspect of entertainment media, but each console falls short of the bar by different amounts.

Two consoles occupy a relatively similar position below the bar.  One console is literally years behind the others in tems of raw processing power.  I'll leave it up to you to identify the console in question -- it is hardly "current gen" and certainly not "next-gen."

FoamingPanda

Panda, all you do is topic-hop and Wii bash everywhere you go. Did you read the original post? You simply are too closed minded to even contribute something worth our time.

That's funny.  I'm not Wiibashing at all on this thread.  I am simply accurately defining exactly what "next-gen" should mean, so users might arrive at their own conclusions.

Hmm. The Wii-mote functionality isn't next gen? It's just like the previous gens? Right.

Please, your biases are obvious. The purpose of this thread was to inform some horribly biased people in all 3 camps such as yourself, but you obviously make it a point to be elitist and ignorant.
