This isnt just a rant for xmas. Its really just what makes me mad all the time at work. I work in a video game store, and this is the one thing that grinds my gears more than anything ( even stupid kids)
Parents!
I am fed up with parents not knowing what it was that there child asked for. It kills me. I mean, they are go to the store, to buy there child his/her chrismas day gift ( on f***king xmas eve! ). They get up to the counter, I say "Hello, How can I help you?'' And they look at me and say " Oh man,What was it he said he wanted?" Or even worse, they describe the box art to me. " Uh its got a man on it."
What!? My head is screaming " YOU NEEDED TO KNOW ONE THING! ONE THING! THE TITLE OF A GAME! JUST THE TITLE! AND YOU FORGOT!?"
And it happens CONSTANTLY around xmas time!
And thats not the worst thing. Alot of parents dont even know what systems there child owns. They come in and ask for something so common. " You got Madden?'' And I gotta then follow up with what seems like 1000 more questions. "Which Madden? What system? New or used? Are you even aware of how stupid you are?"
As a parent this makes me mad. I feel like if your child is into something that you should make an effort to find out what it is. You know? Educate yourself for you childs sake. Even if its something stupid. Thats exactly what I plan on doing when my daughter gets old enough to like things.
Another thing, the ESRB ratings on boxes is NOT, I repeat, NOT. An age range for a game. Its the content for the game. That makes me mad too. Its there for the parent and they dont know. They walk up and say " Can my 3 yr old play this? It says its E." And im thinking Maybe you should consider a coloring book and crayons.
Oh and one last think that drives me up the wall about stupid, BAD parents. The store that I work in is connected to a Wal-Mart Super Store. And we are on the end of the strip mall, as far away from any other store near that Walmat. And about twice a day. A very very small child will come wandering into the store by themself and begin to browse. Im ok with that. but when they walk up to the counter and try to but GTA and I gotta say " Im gonna need your parent." And the kid says "OK, Shes at Wal-Mart, shell be here in a minute." then that poor little kid, probably only 5 yrs old waits for an hour for his mom.
WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU LEAVE YOUR CHILD ALONE WHILE YOU WENT SHOPPING!? I dont get it. I really don't. Im not a baby sitter, nor am I responsible if you child gets friggin kidnapped! I hate it. It makes my blood boil. Having a child is your responsibility. Why wouldnt you take them with you, at least let them hang out in the toy asile at Wal-Mart.
Does anyone agree with me? Am I alone in thinking that parenting is a bigger responsibility then that?
