I love Mario Kart, but I am also very excited for ModNations Racers on PS3. I personally think that ModNation Racers can actually compete (or even supass) with Mario Kart for the following reasons:
1) ModNation Racers allows you to create your very own characters, vehicles, and race tracks, Customisation is a HUGE advantage for any racing game. I'd rather play a a character that resembles myself rather than some overweight Italian plumber. ModNation Racers also allows you to play as characters that resemble Kratos, Nathan Drake, Ratchet and whoever else.
2) Like any other game on PS3, ModNation Racers will have better graphics and physics than Mario Kart. I can understand the argument "graphics dont affect gameplay", but superior physics *does* have an effect on gameplay. Even so, having nice graphics can still add to the overall enjoyment.
3) Better online system. PS3 has better online functionality than Wii, (no friend codes, for starters) so it is fairly obvious that ModNation racers will have better online gameplay than Mario Kart. Online is very important for racing games as well.

we can't really tell which is better until the actual reviews come in, can we? ;) I'm not asking you which is better, I'm asking which one APPEALS to you. Its okay to do that even for un-released games :)I love Mario Kart, but I am also very excited for ModNations Racers on PS3. Achievements can sometimes be fun though (depending on the game). Its not like MS punishes people for having low achievements scores, so I don't see how anybody could have a problem with them :)[QUOTE="PandaBear86"]

Achievements. Really, it's just marketing. You just think they're for fun.
They want you to get 'attached' to your account by having all these achievements you 'earned' and don't want to lose. Thus, you keep coming back to the system, buying more games, because you're 'invested' in your account. It's along the same lines as 'Give away the razor, charge out the ass for the blades'.

I didn't say you can't have fun with them, but they are a marketing gimmick.
Hmm, yeah I'll have to agree with you on that one :)Achievements can sometimes be fun though (depending on the game). [QUOTE="Jynxzor"]You want Linux support? Don't upgrade your PS3 then, otherwise they are not forcing you to do anything but remove a possible backdoor to piracy that they have been sucessfull in preventing for the most part this generation. I agree it sucks for Linux users, but perhaps blame should be placed not soley on Sony's shoulders for this issue than the people attempting to compromise the system. Takes one bad apple to ruin the whole bunch philosophy. locopatho"Don't upgrade"!? You do realise that means never signing into PSN or getting a new game ever again :? If Linux is THAT important to you, to the point where you hate Sony because you paid $600 USD for a Lnux machine with 256mb RAM and untouchable GPU, then losing PSN acess is the least of your worries Oh, and from a legal perspective, firmware is optional EVEN THOUGH you cannot log into PSN (a free service). Removing the ability to play games because you don't want to upgrade your firmware still counts as being optional.
The army won't need to worry about firmware updates, because they don't login to PSN.Looks like the Army are going to have to return their PS3's to Walmart.

[QUOTE="PandaBear86"][QUOTE="Senor_Kami"]I don't think they'll have an internal HDD because they can still sell external ones and make money on them. I think they'll always have at least two models. The basic one and the one that's $100 more and bundled with games and a HDD. I don't think it will challenge Nintendo that much. Software is a major reason why people like the Wii. MS could have launched with Natal but if their line-up was the same, I think Nintendo would still be in a leadership position. A lot of Wii gamers have been alive since video games were first invented but nothing got them to jump in until the Wii. I don't think adding motion controls is going to turn a soccer mom into a huge Halo and God of War fangirl.Senor_KamiThere are two SATA cables on the leaked Slim motherboard. One cable is for the disc drive. the other will be for......? Only the HDD :) Aren't there two SATA cables on current 360 motherboards? One for the disc drive and the other as a connector to the plug for the external HDD? The slim model will likely have an internal HDD. The SATA cables looked shorter, so I doubt it would be long enough to connect to something external.
