Mine WWII too much, and you're going to run out of gold to use. With all the wars that have been apart of human history, I would love to see these games take on something radically different. Clearly, with their WWII stuff, telling the story of other countries besides the U.S. fighting against other nations is something players could get behind. So maybe we could see the story of other wars, like the Russo-Japanese war or the Six Day War. Lots of interesting stories to tell from other wars that haven't been mined into oblivion like WWII has.
I haven't seen the gameplay footage, but despite all the complaints people have, I intend to play this with my brother. Even if the game is terrible, we both always have a good time playing these things together.
I have to admit it was a much better premiere than I thought, even if it was slow. They got back to the things that made the show good to begin with, character development and good drama. I don't see it staying that way, the show tends to get worse just as it is getting good, but if this really is a season about change and starting fresh, that could mean that it's also a season about bringing back the quality of the show. Whatever they have planned, seeing Maggie and Rick go will be a huge blow to the series. I really do think this should be their last season.
@outlawwitcher61: Changing a coat of paint doesn't mean that what's underneath changes with it. I am in agreement, this doesn't look new or different at all. It looks like Origins with a new coat of paint. Which makes sense because Ubi is too lazy to anything new with the franchise.
This franchise has become so derivative since 3, I don't even understand the point anymore, besides selling product. Ubi hasn't put effort into these games since it abandoned the original story, and it seems like this franchise has simply become white bread for devoted fans. Granted, Origins was Ubi's best effort in years, but even that game got boring after a while. I guess Ubi doesn't really have to put much effort into them since they sell like McDonald's hamburgers no matter what, but it would be nice if they at least tried instead of coming up with some half heartedly written story, cliche characters, and slapping it all on some time period we've seen done time and time again. At least Origins gave us a little explored period of history in a historically accurate Egypt. How many times have seen Spartans and Greece be the subject of tales?
@aedanblack: Sometimes, an outsiders view into things is more valuable than the view of those within the bubble. America is such a massive part of the world, as opposed to the world being a massive part of American life, that they have a better understanding of what happens in America than Americans tend to have of what is happening in most of the world. So, just because the game comes from a French developer doesn't mean they're devoid of insight into what's happening in America.
Zone of the Enders remains one of the best anime based mecha series to come out of it's era. I've yet to find a mecha games that combines good story, character, and gameplay the way this game did. While reviewers opinions are fine, this clearly isn't a genre that you're attuned to. The story isn't really that hard to grasp and the gameplay is excellent: finely tuned, easy to grasp, and with plenty of options for play style. What was so hard about the story exactly? Sure, you really should play the first game to understand this one thoroughly, but it's a fairly straight forward story of evil empire versus good guy. Granted, I haven't played this version of it, and likely never will as it's a VR game, but I do remember playing the HD collection and thinking how smooth it was to once again start playing the game. It couldn't be that big of a leap from the HD collection to this one if nothing has really changed.
That's a shame. The first was great, but the copy-paste nature of this franchise is what keeps me from being all that interested. I skipped the previous game after doing an alpha test for it and realizing it was going to essentially be the same game as the first, with the same map types, etc. The story may be the biggest victim. The first did a great job of reinventing the franchise and giving us a more grounded take, but the story and characters in the second game, including Lara, just weren't that interesting. If this is just more of the same, I think I'll pass. Which, I suppose is okay, as Spiderman just got released and Valkyria Chronicles 4 is right around the corner.
